Dateline January 20, 2152
Washington, D.C.
Federal authorities today ruled that the Behemoth League, comprised of all sixty-four Big Time (formerly D1) college football teams except Notre Dame, constitute an illegal monopoly and ordered it dissolved just like they did with the phone company last century. Officials at the Justice Department recommend a return to conference affiliations that existed in 1970, but are giving schools twelve months to institute their own plan. Unidentified administrators at several universities, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to do so, stated that the break-up of the Behemoth League could bankrupt their school. Behemoth Commissioner Kevin Warren Jr. didn't offer much specific insight into what the Behemoth League's response might be, but acknowledged that college football was on the brink of some massive changes.

I have very few regrets in life. One of them is I never grew my hair long when I was young. It was almost all completely gone by the time I was 30.
If these guys want long hair when in college, I say go for it.
I wouldn't feel real bad about it. I grew mine long while in the MBA program and it looked bad; not as bad as Kato's, but pretty darn bad.

Probably not that. Looks like a new round may be starting though. The MAC could be affected if the AAC has to look for some new members.
Latest rumor I've heard has Texas and Oklahoma going to the SEC in 2025. That would drop the Big 12 down to 8 teams and they could go back to their old moniker.
If the AAC picks off a couple of MAC teams, Akron will do just fine in a 10 team MAC.

I appreciate that you want to hear some ideas that can make the situation better. But in this case neither me nor you nor anyone on ZNO is paid to come up with ideas. Guthrie and his staff are paid to do that and still we hear nothing. I guarantee you that any idea I, you or Joe ZNO come up with is better than nothing. We need to expect and demand more. So far we have nothing which is crap. We should not be afraid to call it what it is. If we applaud anyone for doing nothing we are insuring that that is exactly what we will get in the future. Let's set the bar higher.
What if we give away tickets which entitle the holder admission to the game and entry into a lottery. But, to win the lottery the ticket holder must be present at the game to collect the ($5,000 or whatever) prize. I seem to recall that the possibility of free tuition packed the students into games (or maybe this was just a dream).

A bird has made a nest on Kato's head and because it is on the endangered species list he is prevented from removing it. The Zips equipment manager is working 24/7 designing a football helmet that will fit over both Kato's head and the nest.

Per this link, the participants include...
Mon.–Wed., Nov. 22–24: Estero, Fla. (The D1 Docket)
Akron (MAC)
Appalachian State (Sun Belt)
Delaware (CAA)
Evansville (MVC)
Fordham (A 10)
Oakland (Horizon)
Rice (C-USA)
Vermont (AE)
I don't mind it. Evansville has made noise in the notorious MVC. Fordham brings in the A10, with Rice bringing in the CUSA. Vermont is a perennial NCAA Tournament team.
I like the Zips chances in this event, in part, because ..........................................
The only noise coming out of Evansville lately is groaning from their fans. Their overall record in the last three seasons has been:
2020-21: 9-16 including a signature loss to Prairie View,
2019-20: 9-23 including 0-18 in conference, and
2018-19: 11-21.
Fordham is the doormat of the A10 with 11 conference wins over the last 4 seasons.
Rice is no powerhouse; over the last 3 seasons they have lost 6 more games than they have won.
Vermont has enjoyed some success in the America East Conference which was rated the 22nd best conference in the country at the end of last season by Jeff Sagarin.

3. Who counts down to a colonoscopy or root canal?
2. At this point, the athletic department does not have enough money to purchase the batteries required to keep the clock running all the way to zero. There are plans to start the clock up 2.5 days before kickoff.

We switched from Adidas to Nike. There wasn't any choice but to get new uniforms. I don't care enough to look it up, but I would assume they pay us to wear their gear.
I have serious doubts about them paying us to wear their stuff.
When it comes to football, we could probably make more money getting athletic wear companies to pay us not to wear their stuff.

10. The excitement of a countdown clock would be too much for most posters on Zipsnation.
9. Given the lack of info coming out of the athletic department, we can't be sure the Zips will actually show up for the first game.

Couple of things;
Couple of other things;
I used to think the Zips were slow publishing their OOC schedule, but compared to Suckeyes just getting their 2020-21 OOC schedule out makes the Zips seem really speedy.
I could have sworn they played a BIG only schedule last season.

That is good film! That's a football player right there. Reminds me of Bubba's HS film. Craves contact.
I concur. It's a wonder he hasn't drawn more interest. He hits a lot harder than most people with bangs.

Depends on how good he is. If nobody has heard of him, how good can he be?
It's one thing to waste a scholarship on a player you thought could turn out to be good. Even schools like Alabama make mistakes. It's another to waste a scholarship on a player that is an almost certain bust. Good programs are not built on wasting scholarships on highly questionable players. Far too many schools have wasted too many scholarships over the years for "political" reasons. Recruiting is the lifeblood of college athletics and scholarships are how teams go about getting players. Scholarships cannot be wasted. Success is not easy and difficult choices have to be made. All of this will blow over for UB. They will be in much bigger trouble if they have several losing seasons in a row.
In closing, this kid's brother is a highly paid NFL player with the resources to afford to pay for his brother to attend UB as a walk-on. Let him put his money where his Twitter feed is.
It took you over four years to come up with that reply!
Come on, you are better than that.

Making the heroic assumption that I'm not the last guy to figure this out, I offer the following.
When a head football coach leaves a mid-major school to assume the head coaching job at a P5 school, how can he reward a bad coach for loyalty and, at the same time, remove the bad coach from a coaching position?
Make him a general manager. I figured this out while reviewing the new football staff positions at Kansas.

The same college football teams end up in the “playoffs” year after year because they have a monopoly on the better players. The best way to achieve parity between all D1 teams is to eliminate recruiting and substitute a draft. Most high school jocks aren’t smart enough to pick the best school for them anyway; so let’s let all D1 schools pick them. Anyone who isn’t drafted and still wants to play college football could play D2 or D3. To avoid negating the many advantages of a draft the transfer portal should also be eliminated, but players could switch schools if the schools involve agree on a trade. Most D1 players have visions of playing in the NFL, and this system would have the added benefit of showing them how the NFL works.

Yesterday OSU landed the highest ranked defensive recruit in its history. That may have evened the odds for our game. I think it is fair to say we can no longer take a win over them as a given. Now Auburn is a different story.
You must have loaded up on the negative pills 72.
The maximum influence that guy can have (assuming he gets into the game) is to change a Zip's blow-out into a Zip's 3-TD win.

Meister, a pretty interesting ranking that means absolutely nothing other than who is on the move. Kent's Sean Lewis and Ball State's Mike Nee seem destined to move on after this year. I always appreciate someone who moves up in the rankings, yet I think we can expect our coach to move more than 5 places this season.
After our two victories over P5 schools this coming season I believe your thinking is absolutely correct.

With the coach Akron has, it’s unlikely we will win any games. The weeknight games don’t really make a difference for attendance, nobody wants to watch a sad losing culture. The payout from ESPN is smart. The payout from scheduling games against elite teams is smart. What was dumb was firing Bowden with years left on his contract while he was bringing a competitive culture to our program, and replacing him with the garbage coach that wasn’t proving himself where he was. At this point, we’re lucky to have a team still. We need a new coach and then we can start talking about smart moves. Might as well take all the money we can get right now.
Why so negative? Arth's rating is way up from last season.

Now that NIL applies in Ohio, look for Zip recruiting to take off.
More than a handful of Zip footballers are likely to cash-in bigger than most reserves on the OSU women's volleyball team.
Good times are ahead.
