OVI is a new one for me. I guess that's Ohio's version of DUI.
I'm making a pledge never to mention DWI or OWI in the future.
The excitement about Zip's football just keeps building and building.

Excitement is building.
Checked the ESPN+ app and tip off is 7pm Saturday.
I don't have the app. Did it mention whether the Zips will open in a man-to-man or Zone?

That's disappointing but it will cut down on me freezing my @$$ off walking to the JAR from the parking deck.
OK, I give. How will not playing at UB cut down on ass freezing between the parking deck and the JAR??

Pure speculation but that 2nd pic looks like 1’s on offense and Tony George at center. 6’2” 285 is a small D1 center
In 1981, Dave Rimington was listed at 6'3" and 275.
He turned out to be a pretty decent center. And this despite the fact that his reported height was exaggerated by about 3".

I listened to the press conference on Sirius and they talked about preserving the conferences and marketing, and scheduling. I got the impression they were going to schedule other schools in the alliance for non-con games. Which probably sounds interesting to fans of those schools.
And while playing other G5 schools would make for more interesting non-con games than getting Cornhuskered by 60 points, it’s going to be a big hit to the athletic department budgets without the annual football sacrifice(es).
Note that they did not say they were not going to pick the Big 12 almost clean. At least one person, Bob Huggins, will be happy when the Mountaineers become an ACC member. He was/is not a fan of the travel required to play Big 12 conference away games.

Liar, liar; pants on fire.
During the announcement yesterday of the alliance between the ACC, Big 10 and Pac-12, Big Ten commissioner, Kevin Warren, pushed back on the insinuation that the SEC’s addition of Oklahoma and Texas from the Big 12 triggered the alliance. And he did so with a straight face!
It’s possible he was just conducting a scientific experiment; testing the stupidity level of the crowd.
To their credit, nobody in the audience broke into hysterical laughter.

Based on the current consensus spread and over/under, the experts are predicting kind of a low scoring blowout.
Personally, I predict a 14 point Zips win.
How many points will the zips score?

Delta Tau Chi was charged with worse in Animal House. Seriously, they were. It's a near non story, but it is a public school and the taxpayers have a right to know how their money is being spent. The punishment is extremely small. Moving on.....
I just hope we don't get put on double secret probation.

If that is how you feel, go to Walmart and buy an OSU hat and a Suckeyes shirt. Then, get in your crap colored car and make the drive down I-71 toward Columbus on Saturdays. Just stay the hell away from the Info on the corner of Union and Exchange. I want to enjoy the games with the true Zips fans, even though the numbers of attendees may be few. Akron may have one more low win season, but the young talent is on the verge of a major breakthrough in the not so distant future. And when that happens, I want to enjoy the transformation with those who stuck out the bad times. Fair weathered wussies will jump back on board, but I hope you are firmly implanted at the shoe. Go Zips!!!!!
Now you have hurt my feelings.
For the record; neither of my vehicles is crap colored; one is white the other is black, and it would actually be a physical impossibility for me to drive down I-71 toward Columbus.
Go Zips!!!!!!!!

Looks like they have lowered the GA tickets from $15 to $10.
Drop that to $5, make it a 50 yard line seat, pay for my transportation both ways, and throw in a $20 food voucher and I am there for any Saturday game..

Cody is an assistant DL coach at ULM. Glad to see him still in the game. He was a ton of fun to watch play.
I can't locate a single mention of him on the ULM web site!!

A simple visit to GoZips.com would have given you the schedule.
Duh.
Don't know how I missed that.
Looks like the standard bunny parade visiting the JAR this season.

Haven't seen the Zips schedule for this season, but Wright State released their OOC schedule and the Zips are slated to play at Wright State on December 15.
Good news For the Zips is two-time Horizon League player of the year, Loudon Love, is gone having elected to play ball in France.
Bad news is the Raiders are still loaded.

AT&T Stadium? That's impressive. Does Akron do anything with the NFL Hall of Fame?
Yes.
Many people from Akron visit the NFL Hall of Fame.

Some people looking at the roster can't see any hope. I don't think they realize how little it takes to elevate in the MAC. Our very young OL managed to run block pretty well last year. A year of conditioning and maturity along with a QB delivering the ball a little quicker could produce putting points on the board and keeping the D on the sidelines. I am perplexed that we aren't hearing anything about Irons. I expect him to push Kato. It looks like we shored up the D. Looking at the roster won't tell the story. We just need to see come September. In the MAC with a roster full of average talent, all you need to be successful is to add in a few exceptionable players. Time will tell if a few exceptions will show up for the Zips this fall.
It would also be helpful if every other team in the MAC is worse this season than they were last season.

I thought I heard of every university or college in the U.S. until I met up with a tennis instructor from Newman University in Kansas. But Point Park is a new one to me. Of course, Jodi Kest is now an asst coach at Lynn University (???) in Florida.
You have never heard of the Pioneers!!!!
Their men's basketball team has to be one of the top 10 programs in the Pittsburgh area (and no, not because there are only 10 schools in the area; there are way more than 10).

Fann just showed up on the roster. I am so excited.!!!!! I think I will go out and get a Powerball ticket even though the Powerball odds are 1 in 292 million, or so.
Now I kind of believe.
I haven't been this excited since I saw the name Ryan Bain show up on the Akron roster.

OOC schedule has six home games. Three of the games are Temple, Bryant (never heard of them) and a Wednesday night game.
Overall, the first third of the season is a soul sucking disaster and that doesn't include two weeknight games in the back half.
Someone put together a marketing plan that would get enough people excited to sell 5,000 legitimate season ticket packages for less than $1 million dollars.
The point is, there is no point in blowing marketing money selling junk to a football savvy population. Fix the schedule in a way the program can get some forward direction. Hint: Winning cures a lot of problems. Gradually lean into more marketing as the product improves. A lot has to change.
I only see two OOC home games.
In fact, the first third of the season doesn't include any of the games from the second half of the schedule.
It shouldn't be tough to sell 5,000 season tickets for less than $1,000,000. Hell, if they get $90,000 I think they would be doing good.
I agree with your point.

Don't tell Colorado, but they played in the PAC 12 Championship Game in 2016.
Further evidence that my assertion that Colorado will not leave the Big 12 for the PAC 12 is the absolute truth.
Maybe if I had said Michigan State will not leave the MAC to join the Big 10 more people would have got it...............................nah.

I'm in agreement with GP1 here. Texas and Ok are gone and with their departure the Big 12 is dead. There is no way the rest of the CFP teams will allow the remaining Big 12 to add more teams and keep their membership in the CFP. That will mean adding more teams that will split the pie of money and that will not happen. Look for some members of the Big 12 (Colorado, OK St) to go to the PAC 12. The rest are screwed. The ACC will break up with NC going to the Big 10, maybe even ND. Maybe FSU to the SEC. What emerges is three super conferences that all leave the NCAA for football.
The MAC and Akron will play no role in this. That is a good thing. These changes finally force the G5 to look to their own future w/o the former P5. Let the G5 stay in the NCAA and have their own championship. Forget about the money of the CPF, the conference network money and the big bowl payoff money. The G5 schools were never going to taste that. It's better that they focus on what they can control. Look to their own interests and let the greed of the P5 eventually eat them alive from the inside. It will take decades, but it will happen.
There is no way Colorado will leave the Big 12 for the PAC 12. For that matter, there is no way Colorado is leaving the Big 12 for any conference.
My guess is Kansas and Iowa State will join the Big 10. Both are AAU members; both would make a reasonable travel partner - Kansas for Nebraska and Iowa State for Iowa.

Terry's next endeavor
in Akron Zips Football
Posted
Just thinking if Terry turns things around at ULM he will have been successful at every head coaching gig he has had with one exception.
Seems like he is/was getting lots of administrative support everywhere with one exception.
You don't suppose that could possibly be an issue at Akron.
