  1. Lids is where I got mine. If you live in the area, most of the area malls carry the Ohio MAC schools.Gift shop at info stadium perhaps?
  2. it's my opine the non conf schedule is boredline gutless
  3. "... they will play SIX teams ranked 250 or worse with four of them being 300 or worse including Malone, a non Division I team."i agree, Malone shouldn't even be a scrimmage...can'ts schedule by contrast is gutsy...pains me to say thathttp://www.cleveland.com/sports/college/in...hedule_lac.html
  4. http://www.cleveland.com/sports/college/in..._does_mack.htmlSo what does Mack Rhoades' departure for the Houston Cougars mean for Akron and the major sports coaches for the Zips? At the very least, for the next athletic director, it leaves a huge challenge of making a new 30,000-seat football stadium a success, and not become an instant white elephant. At the worst, the AD could face the possibility of firing a football coach, J.D. Brookhart (27-33), if this is not a championship contending season, then hiring his replacement. And, shy of Rhoades getting a deal done before his anticipated August departure with Akron basketball coach Keith Dambrot, that will be another issue.Dambrot, has yet to be rewarded for getting the Zips back to the NCAA Tournament last season for the first time since 1986. First off, putting fans in the stands at the new stadium and Brookhart's future appear to be tied together. To date less than 4,000 season tickets have been sold for the Sept. 12 opener, even though the target was 10,000 when the facility was first started. The current economy surely has played a part in that low number, but to be at less than 50 percent of projection three months from the opening game is surely a red flag.ESPNAkron football coach J.D. Brookhart. That, in turn, puts more pressure on Brookhart to field the kind of team he mostly inherited from Lee Owens in 2004 and won a MAC title with in 2005. That 7-6 campaign was the second and last winning season Brookhart has put on the board since arriving at Akron from Pitt.Since then, instead of becoming a MAC grid power, Brookhart and his Zips have gone, 5-7, 4-8 and 5-7 last season. That included a three-game losing streak to end 2008, dropping the Zips from a first-place tie down to fourth in the very weak MAC East Division.Overall, Brookhart (27 wins) has won less in his first five seasons than his predecessor in his last five (28), despite the benefit of 12-game seasons.Rhoades said late Thursday Brookhart, "has cleaned up the program." But Rhoades also had to admit that was not a shot at the talent Brookhart initially won with, but some of the questionable recruits Brookhart himself initially brought into the program."He learned his lesson and turned it around quickly,'' Rhoades said. "I think you are going to see an unbelievably competitive team from J.D. this year.''As for Dambrot, the outgoing AD said, "I've re-done his contract twice since I've been at Akron [3½ years].''Rhoades added, however, that does not preclude another new deal for Dambrot before Rhoades leaves for Houston. If so, let's hope it comes with some tougher scheduling parameters more along the lines of teams (Gonzaga, Butler, Xavier to name three) that schedule with potential at-large bids to the NCAA Tournament in mind.Rhoades' departure also leaves a big hole in the MAC as he and former MAC Commissioner Rick Chryst brokered the recent ESPN football TV deal. Now, both are gone.Where will the Zips turn for a replacement? It is quite likely Akron president Luis Proenza will return to a search firm. That is how the Zips discovered Rhoades, and that proved to be a successful, albeit brief 3½-year union.
  5. apathy runs amok....esp in some of our youthwinning consistently might help remedy that tho
  6. no high def? seems a bit odd given the technology of 2009 & a brand new facility...
  7. tryout player....hope his speed catches their eye
  8. bryan williams udfa to the browns
  9. bingo...face value for these tix are 138.00 bux....i pd 230 a pop...online agency....i've got two young kids so we go once a year.....so my philosophy is if i'm going, i'm going in style!
  10. wife & i went to the hawks game sat the 21st...luv every minute of it...4 rows behind the cavs bench......i don't know why you think it weird, but whatever
  11. the CBS affiliate in LA carried the zips game..i know that for sure...i would also assume most of the west coast cbs stations carried it as well
  12. get go...just wondering...and mama zeke, what does your son currently weigh? just curiousas an aside, funny how you have Romeo & Dru, Wood, Ced, Dials, talented players, and have a measure of expectation (at least i did) that those teams could/should have some tourney appearances and nothing.....and you get a bunch of kids with little expectation (sportingnews what 5th in the MAC east)...and they go toe to toe with Gonzaga and sans a 13min <---(killer) dry period who knows what may have happened....go figure.
  13. Probably because the University wants to get in with the city in order to make this possible. I don't see us being able to afford an arena on our own. Where does this money come from? The city wants it downtown so that's where it probably will be, and I think it would go great in downtown being by canal park and all the bars over there.good point...get some tax funds to help offset the cost....in my mind i guess they should have tackled both at the same time cause the more you wait, typically the costs increase, materals, labor etc....
  14. i never understood why in the planning and development of INFO, they didn't draw up plans for perhaps an adjacent arena
  15. this just occured to me...why didn't gaffney or french asked coach about humpty's ankle during the presser?i'm assuming/hoping he starts
  16. thousands in zip land hope your correctCoach Few seemed annoyed at the presser altho i think he is aware of the intense defense this team plays....gotta couple that with a good FG % and it can happen
  17. akron should feel blessed the best player on the planet has them under his wing..& i'm certain the zips appreciate it...and akron shouldn't feel pimped or shilled or whatever........i luv it and hope it leads to bigger things As annoying as it gets for people who follow the Zips like we do, you can't deny that the LeBron connection is getting KD far more airtime than any coach of a 13-seeded team would seem to deserve. Milk it for all you can, while you have the chance I suppose. LeBron didn't even need to do anything, which is the best part. It's not like he's out there actively shilling for the team to the national media, which would actually make me a bit uncomfortable.Keith just talked with the guy Arnie (forget his lastname) on Sporting News Radio. Just caught the end I think (cause my friend called to thank me for Cap'ns extra ducat), but Keith said he tried to convince Bron to leave St V's a year early, so he could play a year of college ball before the league. I'm assuming he was kidding. Then he talked about Romeo and Dru, and how with Bron, they would have been able to make a run at the title (and not the MAC, man!). I can see NO downside to LBJ's impact on the UA hoops scene.
  18. if akron can pull the 68-62 upset like in my premonition ( holding the zags to 34% fg shooting), the tip off for rd two vs the winner of Ill/WKU will be 8:10pm sat night FYI
  19. may get pushed back a few...also Kevin Harlan will call the game for CBS along with Dan BonnerHarlan's good...
  20. dambro is kinda catchy i liked the question whether the zips had a better chance for a run vs the cavs winning a title...while i agree the pub was nice, the interviewer, and i use that term loosely, stunk...couldn't even get his name right as he called him dambro...'silent t' i guess....you dont know? Dat's how we speak in da A-K...Dam-BRO. Ya feel me?

  22. knr gave akron alota luv...not just token bs That's part of my point. WKNR had a contract to air the tournament. Our "coverage" basically consisted of hearing the games and becuase we played in four of them, we had a little extra.I listened to those hacks during their shows and as I said, UA got about 5 minutes of run....And most of that talk was in comparison to CSU... I hope to miss the party as I will be in Portland.
