Darlington with a brace and an assist in Portlands 4-1 win over the Rapids which resulted in the Timbers finishing 3rd in the West. -
The wind was a problem, and I agree with much of what you stated. However, there were numerous (many more than I can remember) times when our players, including Victor, Andrew, Brad were heading the ball back up for grabs when there was no one pressuring them not just the times when Jake was booting the ball up field into or with the wind.

Referencing skip-zip's comment from the MSU match, this is the 2nd match in a row where the Zips were out shot both in total shots (20-7) and shots on goal (10-4). Any team can have a bad game, but it's concerning now for 2 in a row. Also, the Zips seemed to regress some and show a tendancy to panic under pressure vs WMU. Oftentimes yesterday, our players were either heading the ball or kicking it long when not pressured when the better choice would have been to setlle it to the ground and work it up the field. I sure hope they find a way to again get away from that tendacy and get back to Akron soccer. It's crucnh time. Gotta finish the regular season ensuring the MAC Tourney is at FES-CCF and keep our RPI as high as possible.

A nnumer of items... 1) I am traveling to Kalamazoo; Look forward to seeing Natethegreat and others there. 2) Victor's suspension is done as i understand it from him and staff 3) Victor does indeed have 3 yellows, but unlike the past, his are "good" yellows in my opinion (except the crap call at UAB, as TennZip mentioned). I commend Victor for his maturation this season. Numerous games I've seen the opponents try to light him up with little to no avail. 4) I'd prefer Richie mature and get no more yellows prior to NCAA Tourney. When we enter the tourney, he gets 3 additional to give. I'd like to enter the NCAA Tourney with him having 4 to give. If he gets another, he only ever gets 3 more beyond that. So, if he were to get 1 v UCLA, sit out BG, then get another in the MAC Tourney, he would only have 2 more to give after that. The STUPID YC's HAVE TO STOP! 5) WMU game time changed to 12:00 noon (was 1 pm). Wow, have to leave home earlier.
-
Then 3 more beyond 5 carries the next 1-game suspension (NCAA rules). Also, unlike in the pros, there is no erasure for 5 consecutive game "good" behavior. Stupid YC's put the Zips at risk. That MUST stop!

I guess Brazilians have a knack for it. Victor Souto told me Ronaldo had one vs Argentina. So I googled it. Here you go.

2015 Creighton seems similar to the 2009 Zips to me. We climbed to #1, and stayed there while not losing a game with everyone outside of Akron saying we didn't belong. All those nonbelievers got an education in the NCAA Tourney and in the 3 from the ACC + Akron College Cup. As long as Creighton does not lose or draw, I do not see them dropping in the poll, nor should they, in my opinion. It will work itself out versus Georgetown, in their conference tournament, and/or in the NCAA Tournament. All that matters to me is that the Zips focus on each game, one at a time, and keep winning.

By the way, it was fun to see Twitter "blowing up" with Timbers' and Zips'/Timbers' fans comments during and after that incredible 2nd half onslaught. -
Dropped from #3 to #4 with nothing to be gained from our upcoming opponents. Just need to keep winning. #39 MSU #94 WMU #84 WVU #37 UCLA #110 BGSU

EPIC is the word. Down 1-0 at halftime at the LA Galaxy, the Timbers score 5 and only give up 1 in the 2nd half to win 5-2. If you missed it, definitely check out D Nags' goal. Wow, that was fun. PTFC control their destiny for a playoff spot. Darlington's goal 4-2 The Timbers' goals were fun to watch. Adi's 1-1 Chara's 3-1 Uruti's 5-2 -
I guess you can't have "victory" without Victor. From Ohio.com... ...Four minutes later, junior midfielder Victory Souto lined a goal into the right side of the net to make it 2-0. ...

All the goals were excellent, but Victor's was beautiful, ~38 seconds into the updated (today) video highlights: Thanks Zips Athletics for updating the highlights to include that goal.

2015 Zips in Pro Leagues International & Domestic

I couldn't find much on it, but Scott Caldwell was voted 2015 NE Revs MVP and honored prior to the match with Montreal last night. “We’re disappointed in the results we’re getting, but we still have belief and we still know we can do it,” said the Revs' Scott Caldwell, who was voted the club’s most valuable player prior to the match. “We can turn this thing around and get some results.” The Montreal Impact, with Evan Bush in goal, won the match 1-0 and clinched a playoff berth. I hope that the Revs can get a win or draw at NYCFC next week to clinch their spot. -
As someone already stated, there is a lot of soccer yet to be played. I prefer to do as the Zips should be doing, take it ONE GAME at a time. None of our MAC foes can be taken lightly. They and every team that plays us sees the target on our backs. All the matters at the moment is Northern Illinois.

Thanks @TennZip. Great read and well-deserved recognition. Brad is doing an outstanding job this season as captain and defender.

US U23MNT ... Olympic Qualifying
Zip_ME87 replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
@TennZip, Sorry I missed your post. The only place to watch was on Telemundo, I believe. I hope you found that info before the game, or perhaps not. The match was awful for the USA U23s. Having lost 0-2 to Honduras, the US U23s must now defeat Canada in the 3rd/4th place match on Tuesday and then defeat Colombia. (I don't recall the date for this match.) Otherwise, no Olympics in 2016 for USA Mens Soccer. Two cycles in a row without qualifying for the Olympics would be- 10 replies

Thanks @TennZip. I don't normally get up during soccer games, but the way that game was going, I thought perhaps my stepping out for a moment might change the way things were going...a little sports superstition, I guess. Those refs were morons just like the refs at UAB. There were bad calls both ways. The penalty call UB got about 3 minutes into the game looked soft to me, but I haven't seen a replay of it. -

Totally agree. Hate to admit that I had to run to the restroom and missed the foul in the box. I did see Victor take and score the pk. Excellent on his part and happy to see him get the game winner. How questionable was the call? Tried to find video highlights on U@b's site but couldn't. -
Each sports' championship brackets are seeded by a committee comprised of representatives from NCAA member schools/conferences. In 2009, when Zips Mens Soccer was appropriately seeded #1 for the NCAA Tournament, we had a member on that committee, Mary Lu Gribschaw. I don't recall if she was on the committee in 2010 when we were seeded #3 (to which many cried foul) and went on to win the title. Personally, if we're seeded 1, 2, 3, or 4, I don't complain since, as we know, the top 4 seeds get home field through the Elite 8 (all games prior to the College Cup). Being #1 v #4 really doesn't matter in the College Cup. In 2012, I believe we had an RPI of 3, but received the #5 seed. While it was not appropriate, it never really mattered since we didn't advance beyond the round of 16, through which we had home games. Last season was a joke when blOSU was given the home game even though we had the better RPI and had defeated them during the regular season. Apparently, the bigger conferences did some maneuvering on that one. I also had the feeling that we were given additional punishment for the incident that occurred the previous year at Marquette. While I agree we deserve more respect, I don't think it's as bad as it may seem. With that said, we just need to take it one game at a time, keep winning, and hopefully climbing when others in front of us falter.

US U23MNT ... Olympic Qualifying

Following the Zips excellent 2-0 win over Santa Clara, I returned home to see the 2nd half of the US U23s vs Panama and was rewarded with 4 goals between the 50th and 71st minutes for a final score of USA 4 - PAN 0. 9 points and an all-out win of Group A for the USA! Onto the game that really matters. Defeat Honduras or Mexico (loser of tonight's MEX-HON match) in the semi-final Saturday afternoon at Rio Tinto, and the USA secures Rio2016 CONCACAF qualification. Best wishes to Captain Wil Trapp and the US U23s getting it done.- 10 replies

2012 Akron vs Michigan NCAA Tournament Game
Zip_ME87 replied to plowerman78's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Thanks for this video, but please don't upload the Creighton game. I can't relive watching 2 of my favorite players not convert PKs, especially the one that could have won it in OT. -

DeAndre played the full 90 minutes for Sunderland (2-2 draw) this past Saturday. He's back with USMNT for Oct 10th match v Mexico. Hopefully he gets more minutes at Sunderland when he returns. -

Thanks for sharing ZipsBurgh. The one that happened to me that ZipsNation will apprectiate was... A UAB fan sitting to my right suddenly said something like, does it piss you guys off when fans show up to your games wearing Ohio State stuff? I said absolutely it does, why? And he proceeded to point out the apparent UAB fan who had just entered the stands and walked by wearing Alabama Crimson Tide crap. He continued to commiserate with me about how that happens at numerous events.
