2015 Zips in Pro Leagues International & Domestic

Yes. 1st road win this season. Wil Trapp voted MotM. Looking good. -
People also make mistakes as the old saying goes..."live and learn". Those who are smart enough to not hold grudges tend to lead more pleasant lives. Plenty of mistakes were made, but there is no reason to dwell on them. I believe both LeBron and Dan are focussed on the same goal of bringing an NBA championship to Ohio. Both are smart businessmen and both are benefitting. While I couldn't have predicted how this is playing out, I always thought that LeBron wouldn't find winning championships as satisfying in Miami as he may have thought. Once you have a ring or two, does it really matter how many more you obtain. No matter anyone's opinion. LeBron has proven how great a player he is. I believe that continuing to support his hometown and bringing even just 1 championship to Cleveland would leave him a greater legacy than he could garner anywhere else. However I felt about the way he left, I no longer care nor even think about it. I'm happy he returned, and I hope he and the Cavaliers win a championship ... not for me, but for LeBron. I want him to have that legacy.

That's what one says to separate himself from the blunders of others. We all know that building the stadium was not the problem. iCoach, 1-11 3 years in a row, weeknight MAC games. Fans and alumni can only take so much. President Scarborough should be spending his time talking about his plan to make the most of that stadium rather than what he wouldn't have done. Monday morning quarterbacking does no one any good.

USMNT vs Guatemala friendly (USA 4 -0 final) DeAndre Yedlin's quick cross found Guatemala's Carlos Castrillo, who headed into the back of the net for an own goal. http://www.ussoccer.com/stories/2015/07/03/19/40/150703-mnt-v-gua-chandler-goal (Yedlin with the assist). -

Excellent article. Thanks for posting that TennZip. Larry, Ginger and family are awesome people. Looking forward to seeing Scotty in Columbus with the Revs June 24th. Midweek game is tough, but I have to see Scott when the chance arises. I'll never forget his goal in the National Championship game. So awesome that he got his degree from UA as well as a national championship and a hometown pro career.

As a-zip ponted out in other threads concerning UA rebranding and logos, there may be things here, as well, of which we do not know. For example, I have to admit that I've not been impressed by the IMG Learfield ticket reps who were brought in to supposedly increase football ticket sales. I have no idea at what cost they were brought in, but given the numbers of butts in the seats, I wouldn't say (in my opinion) they have been a success. Badgering me over and over to get my friends to buy in is not a good strategy as I tried to tell them. I, probably like others in Zipsnation, lost credibility when I convinced some friends to buy season tickets given the new stadium, and then they were rewarded with the 'Ianello Pigskin Holocaust' to borrow CK's phrase. I told them numerous times that I cannot (and will not) go back to the well again until Zips Football accomplishes something again...a bowl game, a MAC Title/bowl game. Given the lack of butts in the seats, was the cost of IMG Learfield a good pay off for UA athletics? I don't have the data, but it seems that it could easily have been another hole in the budget. I like TW as a person. Very nice, friendly man, and I wish him well. But, I definitely think UA can get a more dynamic AD. If we could get Caleb Porter, a Big Ten (11, 13, 14, whatever) graduate, to come to UA and totally embrace it given where things stood when he was hired, I'm confident there is an AD candidate out there who would proudly do the things needed to take UA athletics to new heights. -

I trust that you're not planning to join the local Optimists Club anytime soon. UA Athletics has a lot going for it...Infocision Stadium-Summa Field, Terry Bowden, First Energy Stadium-Cub Cadet Field, Jared Embick, Jodi Kest, Shawn Barber, DeAndre Yedlin on the USMNT and in the Premier League, Perry Kitchen on the verge of being on the USMNT for the CONCACAF Gold Cup and maybe beyond, Wil Trapp perhaps on the U23 USMNT and perhaps the USMNT, a D1 basketball team that has been to the NCAA Tourney a number of times and perhaps needs some new AD to help it take the next step, ... I'm very optimistic that UA will find an energetic, driven AD who will bring Zips Athletics more success. -

Great friendly win today for DeAndre yedlin and USMNT over 2014 World Cup Champion Germany. Also great to see Perry Kitchen and DeAndre Yedlin named to the USMNT preliminary roster for the CONCACAF Gold Cup. -

Boot Room Breakdown: CaldwellTue, 28-04-2015 14:52It finally happened! Scott Caldwell scored his first professional goal this past weekend against Real Salt Lake. Watch as he breaks down the goal in this edition of the Boot Room. EDIT: Happened awhile back but still fun to which the Zips' National Championship winning/sole goal scorer talk about his first MLS goal. -
DeAndre was a big part of the comeback victory and got man accolades during the broadcast. Player ratings

Totally agree. With the Cavs being the only NBA team in Ohio. It would truly be an Ohio championship, not just Cleveland or NEO. #TeamOhio

Although I was upset about the way LeBron left for Miami (had the right to go, but didn't care for announcement on espn), he grew a lot from the experience, and I'm very proud the way he has led the Cavaliers this season. Great player. Great man. Very classy. I'd love to see him be responsible for bringing the NBA Championship to Ohio.

If this was in the works and was responsible, or even partly responsible for Zips Football only having 1 weekday game (the day after Thanksgiving) in 2015, then THANK YOU CBS Sports Network.

a-zip, I do understand your perspective, and now that the emotional aspect has calmed down some and I've done more reading, I agree with the wait and see approach on what Dr. Scarborough and company will propose in total. I think when you and I were at UA, the enrollment was higher than it is today even though we didn't have the beautiful, unified campus (Buchtel & Carroll Streets cut through campus), STudent Rec Center, etc. However, i believe when I started at UA, tuition was $37/credit hour...one of the lowest in the state. I'm certain that had much to do with enrollment numbers. I'm certainly not against moves that better position UA to concentrate on its strengths while cutting unnecessary or unsustainable programs that provide little, if any, benefit and are unjustifiable to the State of Ohio. I do remain much more skeptical of the Athletics Department. I still see a LOT of focus on Akron Football at the expense of other sports such as Basketball and Soccer. I wish the best for Akron Football and hope Terry Bowden can turn things around, but I'm tired of seemingly so much money going into a sports program that hasn't amounted to much in the D-1A era.
-
Seems straightforward to me, too. However, I would expect attendance and size of the student section to grow if/when the team actually wins something again. As others have stated, at that point who will care which logo did what (assuming the helmets don't have a picture of iCoach with the playsheet stuffed down his pants).

Ok. It's not going anywhere other than clarification. Me too.

I'm not trying or wanting to analyze all of your posts. I obviously misread the "it" and honestly wanted to know to what you were referring. Truly sorry that I made you so sensitive to anything I ask. edit - may be completely obvious to you because you wrote it, but the "it" is ambiguous. I could read it to mean the Z now that you pointed that out; I could also read "it" to be referring to the subject of the thread, which is what I did. Lighten up a little please.

2015 MLS All Star Ballot
Zip_ME87 replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
I sort of did overlook someone. The MLS All Stars' opponent on July 29th is Tottenham Hotspur. Perhaps DeAndre Yedlin will be on the field for that one. -
To what is "it" referring in this if not the A-Roo? Perhaps I misread it. just curious.
-
@a-zip I've gone back and reread many of your posts to better understand your perspective. Several things stuck out to me, but I didn't post all of the quotes here. "When I played, we had the BYU A and we won. When Faust came in, it was changed to the moving A. It was a bit sad but a little exciting we embraced it." "Great post and pic - perfect!! Maybe that is where the A-Roo and the University of Akron name belong….in a broken down, dilapidated, run down, outdated Rubber Bowl. Time to move onward and upward." It seems you're approaching this discussion from a Football perspective. First, I don't know who you are, but thank you for your time as A Zips Football player. I was a student at least part of the time you were playing. Although, I don't remember players' names, I remember Jim Dennison taking the Zips to the I-AA playoffs in the timeframe you mentioned. My OPINION...Jim Dennison had more to do with winning than the "BYU style" A. But, whatever, I agree, getting wildly upset over logo changes is silly. We simply have a difference of opinion, and I realize the A-Roo is NOT being eliminated. My issue related to this is that Jim Dennison was never given the chance to coach the DI-A Zips. A change was made to "make a splash". I like Gerry Faust; he's a very nice person, but he did not have a College Football winning record at a school where recruiting is relatively easy compared to Akron. Nevertheless, the change was made with no respect for Jim Dennison or any other Zips Athletics Program (in my OPINION) such as Men's Basketball which went to its first NCAA Tourney in the DI era in the same timeframe. My bigger problem is with the potential name change. I have no problem with referring to The University of Akron as Ohio's Polytechnic University. I will have a problem if they want to completely change the name from The University of Akron to anything else. The University of Akron is a great public university, as Dr. Scarborough has stated, and does, in my OPINION, prepare its students for success in the workforce better than most schools in the country. My UoA Engineering degree and the UoA Engineering Co-op Program got me my "dream" career/job. The one that I wanted for most of my life. The current UoA internship and co-op programs got my niece an excellent job in her career field. My other niece, who graduated from tOSU has a job due to her degree, but its not in her field of study, also a technical degree. No internship; no co-op. I'm not saying tOSU doesn't have these things, but I think (my OPINION) that UoA's programs are MUCH BETTER. I am extremely proud of The University of Akron. My mailbox is blue & gold with an A-Roo on it. Had to make it myslef because I couldn't buy one, and I'm so sick of seeing all the tOSU crap everywhere from people who never went there. I wear a Zips lanyard to work everyday. I have Zips posters, pictures, etc. on the walls of my cubicle. When I received my 30 year service award a few days ago, I was referred to as Akron's biggest proponent. I'm sure everyone on this board shares that passion. Make fun of the A-Roo all you want, but THE UNIVERSITY OF AKRON name in NO WAY deserves to be relegated to someplace like the delapidated Rubber Bowl. That I would go to campus and march against. EDIT: Things like these and others are what has caused my skepticism of TW, Dr. Scarborough, and anyone else who didn't go to UoA, but is currently responsible for it. So, yeah, I'm probably too harsh on them, but for something that I truly care about, and in my OPINION, currently does so much so well, they should have to CLEARLY answer to the skepticsm.
-
I don't take exception to the above, but I did take exception to your original comment which was stated differently... "I do not feel the administration is obligated to share all of the information in their decision making process with us. TW, Dr. S and the rest are entrusted with making good informed decisions." Perhaps I would have read this differently if you stated "...information during their decision making process which is not complete..." Realize that you're throwing out "crap" as you call it to support your opinions, then backing up and clarifying. I have no problem with you having your opinions, but I do have a problem with you belittling others by stating that you're posting facts and we're not. Your facts don't necessarily have anything to do with what you're discussing if I'm to understand this statement ... "The facts I provided have nothing to do with supporting my opinions...". You're going in circles. My head hurts. You're also making statements such as 'nobody likes the A-Roo'. That's not emotional crap? I like the A-Roo. Others like the A-Roo.
-
I guess I misread this... Balsy, LZip, ME - My opinion is based on a lot of facts and a lot of research from people other than Dr. Scarborough. Studies from the US Department of Education, NY Times, Washington Post, Forbes, Bloomberg - people like Mark Cuban, Bill Gates, etc etc. Sorry, obviously my bad.
-
Ha. One would certainly hope not. Although, I've voiced my preference here time and again, I'm not about to march on campus in protest over the A-Roo vs the Z / N. It's just not an opinion I think worthy of that kind of effort. However, I don't believe Z will be the savior of Zips Football or Zips Athletics in general. I dislike gimmicks and diversions as to the root cause of Akron Football's failure to draw spectators or UoA academics to draw students. Perhaps we should all feel as passionate about voicing our disdain with our representatives for their dysfunction and pandering to special interests as we seem to be in voicing our opinions on ZN.o. I have a hard time interpreting "...provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty..." as give money and special loopholes away to special interests; give handouts to people who aren't willing to work; give handouts to people who get a lawyer and some judge to say they're disabled yet they can spin the wheel on Price is Right or compete on Survivor; force people to buy health insurance; make the government responsible for everyone instead of expecting people to be responsible for themselves. yada yada yada However, I can see educating our citizens better than anyone else in the world in all of those words.
