Very nice article on Adam Najem
Zip_ME87 replied to TennZip's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Yes, Adam, please stay at least another year. -
Klinsmann reveals the main reason why Yedlin will succeed at Tottenham ...“He’s a very rare and a very special kid,” he told Sky Sports News HQ. “He’s obviously very energetic, technically-gifted and fast, but most importantly he’s a quick learner. “He’s a sponge. He will come here with Pochettino and say, ‘Tell me and I’ll try it.’ “Of course, it will take time. It will take time for him to break through here, to adjust and pick up the pace of the Premier League, but he can do it.”...

Very nice article on Adam Najem

@TennZip thanks for posting. I first saw Adam play in an MLS Reserves game, NYRB Reserves vs Crew Reserves at Crew Stadium. Adam played against Chad and Wil. Fun seeing the then soon-to-be Zip vs Zips Alumni. Crew Reserves won 2-0 if I remember correctly. At any rate, Adam deserves more accolades than he receives, but I'm confident he'll be a pro someday. Perhaps Caleb Porter can trade for another NYRB HG's rights. He couldn't get Wil Trapp from the Crew, but maybe he can get Adam. Or, perhaps the NYRB will do it right with Adam. -
Hopefully you'll still feel that way when you return. Given the exhibition play/result Monday night, I'm not so sure Charleston is a better place to be.

When did we kick off in both halves? Did I miss the latest loss to an FCS team somehow? Get a grip.

The Cleveland Browns could ruin our soccer pitch
Zip_ME87 replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Perhaps the Browns would pay for use of the dorms in case they wear out the carpets, but they will pay $0 otherwise. It's not a until the Browns and Crew SC (or other) sign a deal for the Browns to take their camp to Columbus. Dr. Scarborough's statement to me prior to his investiture was the easy way to say that is the most likely scenario and dismiss me. -
WVU defeated WMU 2-1 in Kalamazoo this afternoon. Zips need a W or T. I agree that the Zips should defeat Buffalo at home tonight.

Not clearing the snow is totally unacceptable. How does Vernon Croft lose his job for a crappy Womens Soccer record, but Tom Wistrcil keeps his after hiring Rob Ianello and not doing a thing to improve the Athletics Department? As far as the product on the field, I had higher expectations for this year than I'm seeing. BG isn't as good as the Zips made them look. Offensive play calling and execution were miserable. Not having much of a running game is unacceptable in NEO. TB and AJ Milwee need to figure out that they're not in the sunny south. As far as umbrellas, I'm sorry but they should never be allowed in any stadium other than to walk in before the game and out after the game. They block the view of the fans behind them and drip on the fans around them. Get a poncho. I've sat through many a game with one. Even the better ones that will last for years don't cost much more than a sturdy umbrella that doesn't really do much for you anyway in a driving, windy rain. Better yet, get a rain suit. They're not that much more expensive either.

The Zips will know between 3 and 4 pm tomorrow what they must do vs Buffalo to win the MAC regular season. WVU at WMU at 1 pm EST

Coach Croft relieved of duties
Zip_ME87 replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
I'd love to have Steve come back to UA and coach, but I think I'd prefer him to get coaching experience first. I looked up Frank Gagliardi, and he's defintiely got the HS records to support getting consideration at the collegiate level if he's interested. -
The Cleveland Browns could ruin our soccer pitch
Zip_ME87 replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Hodgson has noticed a deterioration recently though, and he thinks the pitch will not get any better with NFL players playing on it next weekend. "I can't pretend that is something that makes me leap for joy," Hodgson said. "If I was asked if it was a good thing or not, I would have to say not. "I don't really think you could expect me to say 'excellent, delighted, well done'. The pitch, unfortunately, is not in the best of nick anyway, which we're all a bit unhappy with." Hodgson said ground staff will have to "work their socks off" to ensure the grass is in optimum condition by the time England kick-off against Slovenia. The 67-year-old said he hoped Club England managing director Adrian Bevington would report to the FA board, who sanctioned the NFL's partnership with Wembley, and "find a good solution" that would prevent England from playing on an uneven surface because of the NFL games in the future. Fact, not contangion. Confirms what I and others have been saying. -

Yeah. 6-25-2 in Mid-American Conference play, under Croft -
@MDZip, the Zips can lose to Buffalo and still win the MAC Regular Season. (def not preferable) Just win so we don't have to rely on the others' result. @Aaron, the Zips can't win at Buffalo since the match is in Akron. For winning the MAC Regular Season and hosting the MAC Tournament, MAC record is all that matters. Points are in Parentheses. Only Akron, WVU, and WMU are capable of winning the MAC regular season with only 1 game remaining. 1. Akron 3-1-0 (9) 2. West Virginia 2-1-1 (7) 3. Western Michigan 2-1-1 (7) EDIT2: Decided to clean this up a bit. Akron WIN v Buffalo...Akron wins the MAC Regular Season Akron TIE v Buffalo... Akron (10) wins the MAC Reg Season with a WVU (10) win over WMU (7) [Akron defeated WVU] OR a WVU (8) TIE with WMU (8) WMU (10) wins the MAC Reg Season with a win over WVU (7); [WMU defeated Akron] Akron LOSS v Buffalo... Akron (9) wins the MAC Reg Season with a WVU (8) TIE with WMU (8) WMU (10) wins the MAC Reg Season with a win over WVU (7) WVU (10) wins the MAC Reg Season with a win over WMU (7) Akron can be no lower than 2nd seed, but who cares about that.

Well, looks like MAC AQ or nothing.
-
Really? I think he got the yellow card.

Jake has 4 saves. Is that why Ruhaak was pulled for Cregan? EDIT: Reviewing the play by play, there were 2 saves before Cregan came in and 2 after.

If that's true, proves my point. Little thought as to what they could have with an indoor football stadium. By now, they've put enough funds into the current wind tunnel (First Energy Stadium) on the lake that they could have had a very nice indoor facility. With the MAC HQ'd in Cleveland, could have possibly had the MACC FB game here in addition to the MAC Basketball Tourneys. Oh well, #Don'tThinkatAll

Sorry GP1, but I differ with your opinion. At 6 - 3, a big play, such as a blocked punt, could have made a difference in momentum going into the half. IMHO part of the Zips' issues this year is that we seem to take no chances whatsoever. No spark whatsoever in the last several games. Just going through the motions. If anyone had insomnia last night, all they had to do was tune into ESPN2 during our game...snoozer.

Not with the moronic way they were promoting it. It's not just UA #ThinkSmaller. NEO doesn't seem to have visionaries. Akron and surrounding area are large enough to support an entertainment venue. I'm sure people in Akron and south of Akron would prefer to only have to go to Akron, rather than Cleveland, for concerts and other such entertainment that could be held at a downtown Akron Arena in addition to Zips Basketball. Also, the Zips could potentially draw Ohio State and other "power conference" D1 teams to Akron where those schools' NEO alumni could more easily go to see their alma mater play. Idiots in Cleveland had a perfect opportunity in 1996-98 to build a domed stadium/Ford Field type stadium for the Browns somewhere other than the waterfront. CLE could have hosted the NCAA Men's FInal Four and a SuperBowl plus many other events, and could have developed that lake front property for much better use. No, status quo stupidity prevailed, and an open air stadium that hosts 8 regular season and 2 pre-season NFL games per year and a few other events resulted. What a waste of half a billion + dollars...mistake on the lake 2.

With ~44 seconds remaining in the first half, and BUGS punting from their end zone, why did the Zips coaches not have the nads to rush everyone to try to block the punt? WTF were we doing fielding that punt. Possibly letting it roll couldn't have resulted in much worse field position. Worst case would have been roughing the kicker with BUGS getting the ball at the 18 (or 25, whatever) with < 44 seconds remaining in the half. Seemed to be worth the risk to possibly get 2 or 6/7 points, especially at home.

Perhaps if the offense could have stayed on the field for more than 3 downs or less then out, the defense might not have looked so tired.
