  1. Thanks. You're the first person who has confirmed that to me.
  2. You actually found the same polo that the coaches and players wear with the stripes on the sleeves and the star above the logo at Campus Books? How long ago?
  3. In case anyone else is interested, I came across a website where you can purchase customizable Zips apparel like this. http://www.prepsportswear.com/product/us/Ohio/The-University-of-Akron-Zips/Embroidered-Tall-Men-s-Silk-Touch-Polo.aspx?schoolid=2609192&productid=577&pc=navy&category=310&d=19681&up_ss2=custom5 You can pick among a number of sports or other Zips activities (such as band, alumni, & a few others).
  4. I've been told that Akron felt & chenille http://www.akronfeltandchenille.com/ might be the place to custom order Zips apparel. If you decide to try, please post feedback here. I would also be interested. While I don't think you can get exactly what you're looking for, another good site of which to be aware is: http://www.prepsportswear.com/college/us/Ohio/The-University-of-Akron-Zips.aspx?schoolid=2609192 You can customize like this http://www.prepsportswear.com/product/us/Ohio/The-University-of-Akron-Zips/Embroidered-Tall-Men-s-Silk-Touch-Polo.aspx?schoolid=2609192&productid=577&pc=navy&category=310&d=19681&up_ss2=custom8 I placed an order from them which is due to arrive Monday. I'll let you know how it works out.
  5. DeAndre Yedlin Named U.S. Soccer Young Male Athlete of the Year http://www.ussoccer.com/stories/2014/12/03/19/24/141204-aoty-young-male-young-female-disabled-winners-rel
  6. DeAndre Yedlin to Tottenham by end of 2014. https://twitter.com/SoundersFC/status/540646359825911808
  7. Wil Trapp to "Camp Cupcake"? ... would be awesome. Breaking Down Klinmann's Options for January 2015 Camp Dillon Serna is also mentioned as a long shot. EDIT: I forgot to mention Teal Bunbury is also mentioned.
  8. I think we need to have a viable plan to replace the dump we call an "arena". JAR by any other name still stinks.
  9. For those Zips Mens Soccer fans who may not have noticed, this tidbit was included in the latest edition of Zips Line with Tom Witricill. Tuesday, Jan. 6 at 7 p.m. – Men’s Basketball vs. Western Michigan (which will include an on-court recognition and autograph session with former Men’s Soccer greats, including Evan Bush, Ben Zemanski, Darlington Nagbe, Mike Nanchoff, Steve Zakuani and more to come!) I'm beyond pleased to see our AD finally recognizing our own Zips professional greats. I know bobbleheads are a gimick, but if they do any in the future, I'd sure love to see any of these guys or Wil Trapp, Chad Barson, Scott Caldwell, David Meves, Teal Bunbury, DeAndre Yedlin, Perry Kitchen, Kofi Sarkodie, Chris Korb, Darren Mattocks, Caleb Porter, Jason Taylor, Dwight Smith, Dominek Hixon, Chase Blackburn, ...
  10. I bet this all comes to cost for U@B. How many Canadian dollars do you think iCoach might be getting for this "transition" period?
  11. tOSU jerseys. Maybe we can confuse some folks into believing tOSU is playing in Akron and draw bigger crowds. On second thought, not such a great idea. That could only potentially work for a game or two. Once they see how bad the onfield product is, even the most backward Nut fan would figure it out.
  12. Probably not as expensive as running a losing program.
  13. @GP1 I totally understand how you feel. Back in 1986 when the then-powers-that-be F'd over the Zips Mens Basketball Program in favor of D-1A Football, I swore that I'd never truly follow Zips sports again until Football got to a Bowl game. Turned out that was fairly easy to do having moved out of state for 11 years (2400 miles away for 4 years; 600 miles away for 7 years). Without the internet, it was almost impossible to get any information about the Zips. Upon returning to Ohio in 1998, I didn't much follow Zips sports until I watched the snow bowl in 2005 and the MACC game and went to the Motor City Bowl. After that, I started attending Zips sporting events again and discovered we had a decent basketball coach and an oustanding Mens Soccer coach. After the 2nd worst hire in the history of D-1A/FBS football (KU hire of Weiss is worst) with 2 years of we're building a program brick by brick from the foundation up with everyone but the HC himself knowing he was less than clueless followed by the ineptitude this season with such an easy MAC schedule, I'm debating giving up Zips Football altogether. I salute you and anyone who has followed and supported this apparent futility for so long. As you say, there are other ways to support your alma mater and past, current and future college students. Best wishes, and I hope you'll check in on ZN.o from time to time.
  14. Or so they lead you to believe. It was awesome 2 years ago when I made a donation to Mens Soccer and then received a letter from UA AD (for tax purposes) at the end of the year thanking me for my donation to Mens Basketball. Of course, when I called them about it, I was told it was just an error in the system. Nothing to show me where it truly went. After that, I started sending all of my donations (other than ticket/seat related) to the University of Akron Office of Development (with designation to specific College, Sport, or other) as opposed to sending it directly to the Z fund.
  15. You totally miss the point. If you state that "we're not there yet", you'll find a way to make sure we're not there yet. I'm not saying that I want TB to go out and tell us all that the Zips are going to compete for a BCS Bowl, but I expect the head coach to believe in his team and his staff. If he doesn't believe, then who will. Folks on this forum can make all the excuses you want for the failure this season, but EA is right on. The MAC East was Akron's to be had, and the flop started with the head man. I just hope he learns from that. As far as winning the MAC, words are one thing, action another. I saw more urgency to win vs Pitt and PSU than I did vs BG and Buffalo.
  16. Next season I don't want to hear TB or any of the coaches say that the Zips aren't there yet, even if they feel that way. They need to keep that to themselves. Belief begins with the leaders. TB and his dad both have said that teams with the better players win. "Better" players doesn't always mean more gifted or more athletic. I've seen teams play above the athletic level of individual players. Better players to me means having the pride, the heart, the drive, to want to accomplish and putting in the effort to do it. That starts with the leadership of the coaching staff and the team captains. Guys who have been at Akron and played in front of the meager crowds need to take the attitude that change begins with them. Take ownership and find a way to win one game at a time. Perhaps more emphasis should be placed on winning the MAC. Win the MAC and go bowling then worry about upper level OoC games.
  17. One of the first things JT did when he went to tOSU to clean up JC's mess was to instill the pride of being a Buckeye in his players. He made them sing the alma mater (not the fight song) after every game, and I don't recall them wearing other colors than those of their school. If black uniforms are why a recruit wants to come to Akron, then go play at Purdue, etc. I also agree about the Zips MBB uniforms. Why silver (gray)? If you're going to do that, use a subtle gold. You should be able to get very close to that same look using gold (not yellow).
  18. By 11/17/2014 RPI (tourney seed), teams in Elite 8: #1 UCLA (2) #4 Providence (11) #5 Michigan State (3) #7 Georgetown (8) #9 Creighton (12) #13 Virginia (16) #20 North Carolina #50 UMBC That 11 seed for Providence really stands out as a selection committee screw up. No way they should be playing at Michigan State for the Elite 8.
  19. Unseeded UMBC defeated #13 Louisville 1-0 this evening to move into the Elite 8 at Creighton. Still can't be done by Ken Lolla even though it was done by Akron in 2010.
  20. Where can I find the Offensive (emphasis on offensive) Coordinator poll?
  21. Laugh all you want. Black has no meaning to the University of Akron. Our colors are blue and gold, and unless you incorporate them somehow into the uniform, the football team could be playing for any school. No pride in UA, no pride on the field...as I said black is a good color for this program as we've been mourning every year in FBS except 2005.
  22. I brought it up again because in retrospect, attitude has a lot to do with performance. In my opinion, the black uniforms (football, basketball, etc.) encourage poor attitude. Akron's colors are blue & gold. Our players should be proud to wear our blue & gold. I admit, in the end, black was appropriate for this season ... another season of mourning Akron Football.
  23. Looking forward to watching Scott Caldwell and Teal Bunbury with the New England Revolution (Eastern Conference Champions) vs either LA or Seattle for the MLS Cup. If it's LA, I no doubt will be cheering for the Revolution. I'd prefer, however, to sit back and enjoy watching Teal & Scotty up against DeAndre at CLink.
  24. Too bad Akron can't come up with alternate uniforms like Oregon and Oregon State --- using variations of their schools' colors rather than black, even if black always seems appropriate for Zips Football --- mourning another season.
