Sorry, a-zip, but things are not as cut and dry as you want to make them. FACTS can be construed to support the opinion of the one quoting. Also, all FACTS are not necessarily useful or applicable. As the leaders of a public institution, the administrators at the University of Akron are obligated to share all of the information in their decision making process unless it is university intellectual property or otherwise subject to privacy laws.

The Cleveland Browns could ruin our soccer pitch

Some real evidence to the Columbus rumor... http://www.ohio.com/blogs/cleveland-browns/cleveland-browns-1.270107/browns-to-hold-intrasquad-scrimmage-in-columbus-on-aug-7-1.595384 In my opinion...I think this is a great move for the Browns. Next year they should go to BGSU or YSU and the year after that to the other. Then maybe back to Akron or over to Toledo for this one event. I don't have any data, but I think it would help them solidify fan base throughout the areas of Ohio they can influence, even if they eventually move training camp to a facility shared with the Columbus Crew. -
a-Zip, no matter how great a critical thinker you believe you are, it is still one opinion vs another. Yes, I read the links as to why rebrand, etc, etc., but not one of them is a study that was done by or for the University of Akron. They simply explain why entities rebrand. I don't remember stating that I disagreed with any kind of rebranding. I also don't recall stating that I thought the A-Roo was being eliminated. I believe, if you read my posts, I responded that I like the A-Roo and dislike the Z. I also disagreed with your statement that you had never seen the A-Roo on the Soccer warmups, uniforms, or Cub Cadet Field when the Zips won the National Championship. Technically, you are correct. It definitely was not on the home or away uniforms as I recall (check). It was not on the warmups I remember the team wearing on the field. I'm referring to the gold warm up shirts as I remember them. As someone else posted, though, it was on their warmup jackets, as I recall. So, I'll say you were correct. And, it was never on the soccer pitch...not on Cub Cadet Field. (check) So, as I recall, your statements are technically correct. However, the A-Roo was the accepted Akron logo during that period of time, and you and I can't deny that Caleb Porter wore it at that time and it was used on the ESPN broadcasts. So, UoA has had success with the A-Roo. The links you provided concerning 'worst' uniforms and 'worst' helmets, are again someone's opinion. Others, like myself, like the A-Roo. As far as the Athletics Department survey...I'm not denying they may be using data from it. But, what does that survey really tell them. If it was done in a way that they don't understand who is providing the input, then it's meaningless. It didn't seem "scientific" to me. I know change is difficult, but I'm not totally against it. However, I'm not interested in change just for change's sake. There are many things that the University of Akron does well currently. Why would you change those? For example, from what I've seen my alma mater does a great job of helping many of its graduates find jobs through internships and cooperative education programs. These things work now. So, please understand any change you're proposing before you implement it. I have yet to see you provide a link to an actual study and it's data that was done for or by the University of Akron. You can continue to do all of the hand waving and blindly following folks who have credentials they've earned and/or had bestowed upon them. That does not mean they know what they are doing. I know you're tired of hearing it, but Rob Ianello is a shining example. broken record, yada yada yada. Too bad. Those who fail to learn from history are destined to repeat it. I'll be happy to get onbaord with you when you show me the critical thinking that has been done to justify changes that Dr. Scarborough is proposing. Good change is directed at an issue's root cause, and I've seen nothing yet that convinces me that Dr. Scarborough or Tom Wistrcill are addressing root cause. My opinion vs yours.

Zips arrive in Brazil Zips vs Sao Paulo highlights
-
@TennZip Thanks for posting that picture. Tremendous experience, I'm sure, for all of the guys. I'm very happy to see Sean Sepe in uniform and likely getting game minutes since he was out much of the Spring. No matter the results in Brasil, I hope the Zips are learning and getting better as a team. It's awesome that they're able to get this extra time on top of a VERY busy Spring schedule.

The root issue with the education system in the United States lies in the US Congress and the State Legislatures. Our representatives have become so engrossed in keeping their jobs that they absolutely do not do their jobs. They have so many special interests and pet projects to bring money to their districts and their largest campaign contributors that they do not look out for the best interests of the country. Education, infrastructure, technological intellectual property are things that drive the economy, yet instead of funding and/or protecting these things, they're passing legislation to give away taxpayers money to whatever special interests and contributors help them maintain their seats. They see defense of the US as sole responsibility of the Defense Department, Homeland Security, law enforcement, intelligence organizations, and other such entities. While those groups have a definite large stake in US defense, the country's security begins with the welfare of its people and economy. If the general standard of living and education are poor and you're giving away your economic leadership, you cannot possibly continue to be secure.

How do you know it won't be "OH Poly", like Cal Poly as opposed to being like VA Tech.

That's okay...I concluded that you are either TW's child or wife. The reason for my remark about his relatives or friends. You lost all credibility with this one..." There are people a lot smarter than you and I collecting and analyzing data before making these MAJOR decisions." TW is brilliant. Edit: What was CK's phrase, "Rob Ianello Pigskin Massacre" or some such thing?
-
The survey that the Athletic Department did that was mentioned...what does that data mean? Is it meaningful? What do they know about those who responded? What was the sampling size? Making decisions based on that data seems like more from the Athletic Department than the thoughtful decisions President Scarborough promised. I'm tired of new leadership coming into UA and changing things on their whims, IMHO. (actually, not so-humble)
-
And you missed my point. You stated "Funny, I have NEVER seen the Donkey-ARoo on any of UA's soccer jerseys, warm ups or Cub Cadet field.", and the pictures I posted showed your implied assertion was wrong. Although you may never have seen the A-Roo on any of UA's soccer jerseys, warm ups or Cub Cadet field doesn't mean they weren't there. You just didn't look and were making an uninformed statement to support your case for the "Z"ero. Now you post an expletive because that somehow strengthens your assertions which include "Outside of Akron, most people make fun of and don't even know what that Donkey logo is. READ THE ARTICLES I POSTED. move Fear the Roo is pretty cool but it was ripped off from Maryland. " Those articles don't prove that "most people" anything. I like the A-Roo and know a lot of people who agree with me, but I won't assert that most alumni, etc. like the A-Roo, because I have no data to back that up the same as you don't have the data. We had Zippers on our helmets at one time that some thought were "cool" while others thought we looked like we had crotches on our heads. Cool...the Zips look like penis heads to some. You post links to why rebrand. I'm not arguing that there are not reasons to rebrand. I do argue, though, whether rebranding is wise for UA at this time and whether that rebranding has any real thought to it. Sorry, but I've never been impressed by TW, and so far, I don't see the thoughtful decisions from President Scarborough.
-
Huh? You were kidding, right? Clueless? No success at all associated with the A-Roo??? National Champions Shirt: Look at Porter's shirt in this picture of the team taken on the field at Harder Stadium immediately following the Zips National Championship win. These are the replicas, but the same design as the "real" gold ones.
-
Just because TW and his friends and relatives don't like the A-Roo, doesn't mean those of us who graduated from UA don't. I know a number of UA alumni who like it including one who does graphics for a major corporation in NEO. The Z is definitely a zero. And for those who say it's just a logo...join the real world. Logos represent the product and certainly affect marketing and merchandising.
-
Like all Athletics Department decisions made under TW, I'm sure this one was well thought out with input from those in the know and studies identifying all of the great things to come with the "Z" logo.

Sporting KC recalls Saad Abdul-Salaam from loan Rookie defender has started 5 games for San Antonio Scorpions in NASL "Sporting Kansas City has recalled defender Saad Abdul-Salaam from his loan spell with the San Antonio Scorpions, the club announced on Tuesday. Abdul-Salaam will be available for selection on Wednesday when Sporting Kansas City hosts the New England Revolution at 7 p.m. CT at Sporting Park. ..." -
I wonder when they will add the "ero" as in Z logo is a big zero, or Zero wins in the NCAA Tournament. Actually, the new floor does look nice, even though I'm no a fan of the Z logo. Now fix the darn seating!

Michigan Bucks (PDL) 3, Detroit City FC (NPSL) 0 In one of the most anticipated matches of the First Round, perennial U.S. Open Cup power Michigan Bucks grabbed two early goals from Nick Wysong and Peri Marosevic in the seventh and ninth minutes respectively. Threatening throughout the first half, the Bucks found a third goal on the hour mark with Brad Ruhaak’s long distance strike and easily handled their NPSL neighbors in the second half to earn a 3-0 victory. Next up for the Bucks is a Second Round date with Portland Timbers 2, set for May 20 at Ultimate Soccer Arenas in Pontiac, Michigan. -
