  1. For those traveling to Louisville, we are being joined by the goal scorer from that significant victory vs Louisville. Zips Men's Soccer and University of Akron Alumnus, Scott Caldwell, and his father plan to be in attendance Friday night.
  2. Sounds like another Steve Zakuani story. I don't recall what Steve's injury was, but I remember reading that Caleb found him in England, and he had had some injury which held him back through moving up through the development system over there. I'll have to do some research on Joao. I wouldn't expect our SID or the Akron BJ to provide any backstory.
  3. Chances of that seem to have increased with this recognition. The only way for him to enter MLS draft as an underclassman is with a Generation Adidas signing, I believe.
  4. For those ZIps fans traveling to Louisville, the UL ticket office responded to my email that they are seating Akron players' guests in Section 112. Would be great if we could all get tickets in this section or next to it so that we can be loud together. You can call to order tickets at 502-852-5151 or purchase through gocards.com. Likely need to call to request a specific section. GO ZIPS!!!
  5. I could not get that tweet to embed yesterday, but it worked this morning. Better than just the link.
  6. The Timbers just put out a corrected release. https://www.timbers.com/post/2017/11/27/portland-timbers-announce-roster-status-ahead-2018-season The Timbers did not exercise the 2018 contract options on defender/midfielders Amobi Okugo and Bill Tuiloma and forward Darren Mattocks. The club remains in discussions with Mattocks... 2018 Zips in MLS Summary... Dillon Serna ... Colorado Rapids Wil Trapp ... Columbus Crew Chris Korb ... DC United Evan Bush ... Montreal Impact Scott Caldwell ... New England Revolution Jonathan Lewis ... NYCFC Richie Laryea ... Orlando City Adam Najem ... Philadelphia Union Darlington Nagbe, Zarek Valentin, Darren Mattocks (TBD) ... Portland Timbers Saad Abdul-Salaam ... Sporting KC Ben Zemanski ... Free Agent Teal Bunbury, Kofi Sarkodie ... Out of Contract
  7. Should have been smart enough to have appropriately located those speakers when they renovated the stadium in 2010. However, it would be prudent and responsible of UA to at least tune it down a few decibels and not ruin the hearing of their donors/season ticket holders.
  8. That is a great question my friend. MLS roster rules are most confusing. I believe they are available for the re-entry draft. If not drafted by another team, their previous (current) team can re-sign them (likely at lower salary). If neither of these occur, they can still try out and sign with another team, but their previous (current) team has to agree (usually involves some compensation) since they are not free agents. If they don't find another team to which to go in MLS, they can go to another league inside or outside the USA. EDIT: I admit that I'm not 100% certain of the process I described. I welcome any corrections by someone who may know better.

  11. It appears that Chris Korb is under contract with DC United for 2018. This link has a summary for all of the MLS teams. The 4 still playing have later deadlines (Dec 1 & 10) to make their roster moves known. In the NE Revs article linked above, I missed that Teal Bunbury is out of contract. Teal has 8 years in MLS but is only 27; so, he is not a free agent. https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2017/11/24/contract-deadline-day-2017-stay-date-all-moves-around-mls
  12. Jonathan Lewis has a guaranteed contract in 2018 for NYCFC. https://www.nycfc.com/post/2017/11/27/new-york-city-fc-announce-roster-options-2018
  13. Unfortunately, Kofi Sarkodie is not under contract for 2018 with San Jose. https://www.sjearthquakes.com/post/2017/11/27/news-earthquakes-announce-roster-moves-ahead-2018-mls-season Also of note in the Quakes announcement is the following: Free Agency begins on Tuesday, Dec. 12 at 12 p.m. PT. Out of Contract and Option Decline players that were at least 28 years old during the 2017 season and have at least eight years of MLS service are eligible for Free Agency. Ben Zemanski is 29 and has 8 years in MLS. (Chivas: 2010, 11, 12; Timbers: 2013, 14, 15, 16, 17) Kofi is only 26 and has only 7 years in MLS (2011-17)
  14. Timbers announced they exercised 2018 options for Darren Mattocks and Zarek Valentin. Darlington Nagbe is also under contract for 2018. Unfortunately, Midfielder Ben Zemanski is out of contract with the Timbers and will be eligible for MLS free agency, which begins at 12 noon PT on Tuesday, Dec. 12. https://www.timbers.com/post/2017/11/27/portland-timbers-announce-roster-status-ahead-2018-season

  18. I was agreeing with you ... if you check one of my earlier posts. Churchill Downs is first on my list. I'm planning to visit if I have time.
