  1. Akron is #4 on the latest NSCAA / Adidas Soccer Poll, and remains #1 in the Great Lakes Region.
  2. Why don't you look at the score of the opponent they both have in common - Army. Akron pounded Army 22-3, Buffalo struggled past Army, winning 27-24 in OT. Who appears to be the more dominant team? You can't tell me Army improved that much from 9/20 to 10/18.
  3. I'm a marching band junkie - was in Akron's band from 97-03, through undergrad and grad studies. I never missed a football game then, and have been back for all of them since. The only reason I attended Akron after high school was that i was pretty young when I graduated and had to live at home. However, Akron provided me a fantastic education at a wonderful price, and I don't regret it at all.
  4. OSU is a Michigan ripoff...who cares. Having a band in general is a ripoff to whoever started it. It's cool and the only team i know of that did a script "ZIPS".I know that 99.99% of our market would immediately think we're trying to ripoff OSU. I've heard that Michigan did a script "Michigan" and dotted the "i's" before OSU. Is this true? If so, it would be good to have that nugget if info @ our disposal were we to do a script Zips and have to explain that to our friends.Actually, Michigan did the first script Ohio, when visiting Ohio Stadium. OSU's band did it themselves later, adding in all the rotating and the music they currently use. Never seen a script Michigan, although I suppose its possible.
  5. Did you notice the 'Since being built in 1994' quote as well? Isn't copy and paste lovely...
  6. VERY interesting projection, most of the site had me laughing. Clemson is left out of a bowl at 7-5? Is this site run by Can't grads?
  7. I loved the game - it was exciting, but instead of folding when Toledo reared their heads, the Zips fought back! I thought it was one of the best games we've seen from them all season against a decent team. Don't forget that Toledo went into the Big House and won, but we were able to defend the Rubber Bowl. Our offense is really clicking, and congrats to the special teams for the big difference yesterday. The 10 pt. swing they caused made all the difference. I'm VERY excited for next weeks game against Buffalo. I'm mobilizing everyone I know to come out to the bowl, and have people genuinely excited about it. If BG loses between now and Nov. 22nd, I'm planning on getting a carpool together to go to Athens and see the Zips clinch the MAC East that Saturday!Things are looking up for us right now, I want to keep on this high over the next week, and come out for our next 'playoff' win next Thursday. I'm certainly not going to 'doom and gloom' the team for a 1 turnover game where they NEVER trailed! Great job to Jacq, DK, and all of our first-time scorers last night. Buffalo only squeaked past Army 27-24. What that tells me is that their defense gives up a LOT of points, but their offense may be a little higher powered than ours. Amazing how we're in the same division yet have no other common opponents yet. Buffalo's played through the bottom of the MAC East so far, but has hung in there with the West teams they faced, but not pulled out a win. I hope our added big game experience as well as the ghosts of the rubber bowl push us over the top in this one. Great win guys, can't wait to see it again next week.
  8. I'll be there for certain, but may not get there until the band is kicking off pre-game. I'm looking forward to our first 'playoff' game tonight!
  9. UA's current director, Galen Karriker (director since 1999), has been away for a couple of years now getting his doctorate, during which time they've now had 2 interim band directors. Galen should be back next year, assuming everything goes well with his doctorate work. The director who recently died was Richard Jackoboice (Chief) who was director through the 70's and into the early 80's.The music style and marching routines should improve significantly with the return of Mr. Karriker, hopefully gaffes like the lack of drums at pregame march-in at homecoming will be avoided in the future. Akron has a great band tradition, and an excellent school of music. Any frustration with the band now and their lack of variety should be rectified with their return to normalcy.FYI, the band uses the high-step marching style for pregame (not that many people are ever in the Rubber Bowl to see it) and only uses the traditional corps-step at halftime.
  10. Akron wins a close one - I see turnovers making all the difference in this one, and think that we'll stay on top with fumble recoveries, or intercepting linemen blitzing the spread. 3-3-5 will finally be useful once, seems to matchup well against the spread. I'll be watching from the Alumni band, see you there!
  11. UA fan speaks....needs discounted tickets.I believe UA discounts them enough.....Who knows you may be able to find freebies at the gate!!C'mon now, I buy my VERY reasonably priced season tickets for myself. If I had a bigger family, I doubt I'd bring them all either, but if its reasonable (and since there's always room) I figured I'd inquire. That's part of what I love about the MAC, and Akron in particular - free admission as a student and very low prices in general!
  12. I have a friend with 4 kids who would be interested in coming with me to the game tomorrow, but the ticket cost for the large family is a bit prohibitive. Does anyone on here know if any businesses are selling discounted tickets for tomorrow's game?
  13. Maybe this should go to the AK-ROWDIES as well, but if somebody has a membership to the website, are there any large halls on campus that have a computer projector? Also, can any members comment on the picture quality from the website? Is this a full-screen deal, or just basically a 640x480?Barring anything else, do any oldies know of a bar that would put this on the radio and crank it up?Aaron
  14. Does anyone know of a way to see the Buffalo game, or any place in Akron that will be showing it? It seems like this may be the most significant game of the season, and it would be nice to get some visuals instead of audio only. Also, are any other alums planning on meeting up to watch?
