Eric Thomas is the only one for whom a conviction occurred, but he plea-bargained out of the rape charges (he was probably convicted because the charges occurred after he had finished his years of basketball eligibility for Can't). For Singletary and Evans, the charges were dropped not too long after the police reports were filed, and they had 1-2 game suspensions from the basketball team.Congratulations to Miami on being a class act in the MAC.

I feel absolutely betrayed as a fan of Akron Football right now. It's not the losing - I'm used to rooting for losing teams, its not all bad. I feel worst about the fact that we aren't even competitive in these games. I show up at the stadium relatively assured that we will lose, and the team has done VERY little to shake that. Great, we beat an FCS team - that doesn't change things. I haven't missed an Akron home game since I started coming to them in '97, and I don't recall seeing a team less competitive than what Coach Ianello has fielded. Win or lose, I want a team that looks like it's actually TRYING and coaches that put the players in the best position they can be to win. That hasn't been evident these past couple seasons, and without a major turnaround in the last half of this season (beating Can't + 1-2 more wins) I will have a hard decision whether being at the games to support the Marching Band is worth having to sit through a beatdown.

I'm renewing my season tickets to support the marching band - they're a fine group of students who work exceptionally hard, and show it every game on the field. I wonder if I can earmark my obligatory Z-Fund donation to be a marching band donation instead?

Temple had some issues tackling at first touch last week against Villanova. Nova's RBs didn't have the speed to make Temple pay for missing the tackles, but maybe Akron's do. If Temple's tackling woes continue this week, it seems to play well into Moore's strong points and we may be able to get some good gains on the ground with options plays or a strong FB lead.Temple's pass coverage seems strong, and with our young receivers, I wouldn't expect much in that dept. Could be a faster game than usual with both teams focusing on the ground.

I think we'll go 4-8, with wins over VMI, Can't, Buffalo, and a random 'lucky' MAC game during the year. I believe that we could go 8-4, with our only losses being OSU, Cincy, Miami, and Temple. My heart would LOVE to see this happen, but my brain has a hard time believing it.

Is the MAC West top team still the #2 seed? If so, I could see why the whole MAC West + Can't State voted this change in. I don't think I like it.

Two things go along with this - they are no longer using 1 year APR scores, but instead a 4 year average. Are we below 930 on a 4 year average? Also, there will be a 3-5 year phase in period, allowing schools like us to 'ratchet up their academics'. Also, players leaving the team don't count against us if they're in good academic standing when they leave right?

I'm a fan who is happy to get any communication about the team and practices, even if it is a little on the cheesy side. It's a welcome change from last year - lack of communication and lack of results together made for a dismal, depressing season. At least 1/2 the equation is here this time - I hope the communications continue during the season. It helps me feel ok about the team for a little while longer, even if they don't produce results immediately this season.

There's a public scrimmage (maybe meet the team as well?) event on August 20th. This was passed on to me from a Zips ticket office employee when I updated my season ticket info.

I agree that OSU's offense might struggle slightly, but I don't see us putting up points on what is typically a solid defense (and isn't changed much). I think it will be 35-3, with OSU pulling in the reins mid-3rd qtr.I really hope I'm wrong.

Personally, I believe that Republicans worked pretty hard to lose the last election. I don't believe they had any interest in the presidency this term. First, they run a decent kind of boring fellow, who would supposedly get crushed by any charismatic Democratic candidate. Then, when the R's were STILL leading by points, they found the most ridiculous VP candidate they could, and McCain stayed quiet for most of the rest of the campaign. The Republican party encouraged Palin to be the one who runs against Obama (basically), and still only managed to lose the election by a few points.Not quite as obvious as when the Democrats ran Mondale against Reagan, but it looks like the Republicans worked hard to lose this one.

Same here - I'm not inclined to pay MORE after our worst season for a parking lot with very little benefits anymore besides distance.
