Any idea why the game has been delayed? I'm seeing kickoff at 11:27 now.
-
I don't many 'preferred' Louisville for an easy win - its certainly going to be difficult but to be the best, we need to prove we can beat the #1 seed. It's all about closure.

Probably - my letter included a 'thank you' for attending all the games

IMNHO, this is a real good home schedule next year on both an entertaining/interesting level and importance of winning the MAC East (If Miami can do it, we can do it) level. Some think getting our butts kicked by BCS teams is an indication of where the program is...maybe. I believe a better indication is how we do against other non-BCS D-1A teams. Playing FIU at home will allow us to better measure our program in the world of reality. Please tell me that you are joking. Nobody cares about FIU or VMI. That is a joke of a home non conference schedule. A gauge of our program needs to be against the Indiana's of the world. We already play garbage in the MAC. Measures against other garbage teams does nothing to get fans interested. That's the difference between "serious football fans" and "front-runners". Serious football fans (i.e. people who find the time to post on football message boards online) will probably like to see real football skill and talent come in to a stadium. Front-runners (like most Ohioans) want to see wins. If they hear from their 'knowledgeable football friends' that the Zips ought to win this weekend, they'll be out there for the game and the after-win party. BCS programs are not going to draw in Akron (although they'd draw out more of ZipsNation). WINS will draw out people around here.

Or even the Highland Theater, since you can drink there

I liked most of the calls tonight. Except for one big one that stood out to me. Akron ball first and ten with time stopped at the 2:38 mark at the Miami 13. I called the play in my head before they run it. I wanted them to spread it out and run an inside draw to continue to run the clock and get a few positive yards. We were having success running the ball at this time. They needed to run clock and leave Miami with little time on the clock since they would only need a FG to win when we scored a TD to make it 21-19. Actual call, pass to the end zone. Incomplete pass, stops the clock with no positive yards. Best case scenario on that call is a TD. Now Miami has two and a half minutes to get in FG position to win the game. That's too much time to leave them with IMO. That call bothered me. I could be wrong, but if zips got a TD, they'd go for 2, right? 20-19 is essentially the same as 21-19. May as well go for the 3 pt lead?

Not much on the tailgating side Wednesday, barely getting there in time for pre-game after work and all. With the sparse crowd expected for the game, is there a section ZNO members could congregate to around the 3rd quarter or so? (when its just us, parents, and the marching band left) Upper deck bleacher-back section could be nice, or one of the sections right next to it? Chances are we can find each other by nothing other than 'enthusiasm' but a little organization could be nice

Not only are we NOT the pillow-fight of the week (that belongs to two winless schools in New Mexico playing each other), ESPN has hope for Akron. Our writeup: "Remedy": The Zips might find a remedy for their woeful 0-5 start; they play at 1-3 Can't State on Saturday. Don't forget how the Akron pressure has always gotten to Can't State, even in years when the flushes have had seemingly more talented teams. It's not a fluke we've won 11 of the last 13. It's the best week for the MAC staying out of the bottom 10 for a while. EMU is (still) #1, Akron is #6, and Bowling Green is on the waiting list.
-
Our team appears to be lacking cohesion, as well as clear leaders. What is your plan for organizing these excellent individual players into a team, capable of playing football competitively?
-
Here's something else iCoach can be pleased about - staying off of ESPN's Bottom 10. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?page=bottom10100908 I hate the column normally, and its normally 1/3 MAC teams. Maybe a decent measure of success is if he can keep Akron off of it this year? (Akron hasn't stayed off the list / waiting list for an entire season in a LONG time).

Unless you're pretty shy, going to football games alone is really not that difficult. For our inevitable November games, I've been there alone more often than I've been there with others! When a good or bad play happens, everybody around me normally cheers, and its easy to make comments about the game and strike up football conversations with complete strangers. I've met a lot of great Zips fans that way, and its even easier in the season ticket sections where you tend to see the same people over and over again.

It's kind of atrocious that NO MAC TEAM HAD A 1-A WIN this week. I suppose the upside is that Temple managed to hold off Villanova this year... another MAC 1-AA loss would not be a good thing. The only MAC team I saw coverage of that impressed me was Miami - but then again, maybe Florida is just that bad this year. I would have been much happier with this game if our offense had managed to find the endzone. The defense is a few 'hands drills' away from pulling in multiple interceptions. I like this 4-3, it did what it was supposed to. Hopefully next game the defense will be anticipating their success and ready to make the big plays. Literally 6 catchable Syracuse passes went into the hands of our defenders, and they only came away with one INT. I look forward to that number increasing as the season goes on. Our special teams really turned the game around... in Syracuse's favor. That botched fg was the dagger to the heart of our game chances, and there is no excuse for how badly that play went. Down 17-6 with a little momentum, and I think we could have made it a game. Instead, we go down 23-3 and the zips were defeated right then and there. It was hard for me to tell if our offense was atrocious, or if Syracuse's defense was just THAT good. Not enough run plays, don't recall seeing a single option play run by the zips. When we're down 20 points late in the 4th qtr, why wasn't Rodgers playing? He couldn't have done much worse, and with as much blitz as Syracuse was running (and as much as our o-line was run over), I kept fearing Nicely would be injured. Call it the 'usual Akron luck'. Anyway, it was good to visit with you CK. I haven't missed a Zips home game since '97, so I'll be sure to visit you guys for pre-gaming more often now that I know who to look for. It'll be nice to get the horrible taste of this game (and some answers about the offense) next week against G-W. If all our scoring comes from defense next week, it'll be a VERY long season.

Lot #9. As close to the shadow of the scoreboard as possible! I'm in Lot 9 as well, I'll plan on stopping by and saying hello. Any easy way to recognize you?

I'm with you 100%. Aaron. Seeing this gets me totally fired up. We are very fortunate to have a marching band of this caliber. Not every school has a band that totally kicks ass like Ohio's Pride. Cough, Cough, Can't State. I like the new pregame show. I especially liked dotting the I in Zips. Was this performance before the final scrimmage? Wish I could have seen it for the first time in person. Perhaps someone from the band can let us know if they will be performing in front of the Polymer Science building before games like last year. This performance was done on the last day of band camp for band friends / family. Last I saw on the gameday time schedule, band performances in front of Guzzetta and playing to the zipsfest were happening again - we'll see if the schedule gets updated to say otherwise (or if I was an idiot and just looking at last year's schedule)
-
Just found this online - a video of the marching band's new pre-game show. This gets me fired up for gameday!

Figures we once again have 2 home games in November on weeknights Ah, well. Best of luck to the team and coach Ianello!

Akron wins 2-1, perfect 20-0-0, almost assured of the #1 seed tomorrow

Temple has the worst pass defense in the MAC - shouldn't we 'pass the ball and stop the run?'

I'm already looking forward to Nov. 13th and 15th, spending a lot of time of campus watching some great games. With the MAC soccer tourney schedule set, we now have the potential for two double headers that weekend:Nov 13th6PM - Zips soccer vs. #4 seed8:30PM - Zips football vs. TempleNov 15th2PM - Zips bball vs. Austin Peay4PM - MAC soccer championshipDo you think we can delay the start of the football game if necessary? Also, will the bball game be done in enough time to catch the opening kick?
-
I doubt it - as long as you made it to the band's morning practice, and had a convincing story about what years you were in the band, you wouldn't be questioned. All the info you need is at www.zipsalumniband.com

Any ZNO members besides myself playing/marching in Alumni Band tomorrow?
