I keep getting the vibe that he's intentionally throwing games for the sake of "building". The problem with that is that you develop a loser's attitude because you're constantly losing, and then when it comes time to put all that "building" into practice, it doesn't work because your team culture is all wrong since you just spent the last two or three years telling all your players that winning isn't as important as practicing so they can justify not doing the things on the field that it takes to win because they're having great practices and that's what counts. One last Ianello quote: "We need to take care of the ball better on offense. On defense, we need to eliminate the big plays. If we can stop the big play and run the ball better on offense, we will be much better." Again his focus is only on the "big plays" for our defense. Guess what coach, big plays are going to happen. You can limit their effect by doing better on all the "small" plays.

Jalil Carter invited to St Louis Rams camp.

Akron picked to finish last in the MAC in the media poll. In line with pretty much every preview. Those are all the notes I have for now.
-
Ianello: "Our priority is to be a better football team." "We're a team based on fundamentals." "Going into the second year in the same system will help (the offense)." "Last year was about what to do, this year is about how to do it." "The QB position has to improve." "Nicely showed toughness last year and will go into camp as the starter." "We could have played Marquelo Suel last season, but it wouldn't have been fair to him or the growth of the program" "Wagner is a leader on Defense". "ShelDon Miller moved to LB from Safety"

Games on STO under the MAC umbrella: • Saturday, Oct. 22 Ohio @ Akron, 3:30 pm ET • Saturday, Nov. 12 Can't State @ Akron, 2:00 pm ET

You can watch the stream at Mac-sports.com At the top, there is a link that says Watch. When you mouse over it, there's an option for Live Streaming. Nothing up yet. I remember last year they didn't get the feed up until well after Akron's portion was over. Let's hope their new website is better.

CMU @ Akron on Oct 29th has been announced as a MAC game of the week. It will be broadcast on ESPN Regional at 12:00 Noon. MAC Media Day is about to begin.

Recently graduated OL Corey Woods has signed with the Patriots now that the lockout is over. Also, Lemon left Winnipeg. That was short.

Heard a tip that Akron received a commitment a few days ago from 6'0" 194lb HB Matt McDonald from Vermilion, OH. Unfortunately, I have no way to confirm this. He's not listed on any recruiting site, not even ScoutingOhio.

Only in retrospect. Most of the Zips fans here were expecting improvement when Ianello took over. We had a promising QB returning in Nicely, two productive senior RBs in Allen and Burney, a solid OL, an all-MAC WR in LaFrance, two great D-linemen in Sewell and Lemon, and Wagner at LB. We were set to have a strong year after injuries caused Brookhart's last year to go south.Nobody expected that Ianello take what looked to be a 5 or 6 win season and simply say "screw it, winning games isn't as important as installing my system."Considering how many senior playmakers we had, Ianello could have designed a two-year transition instead of pulling a U-turn at 90mph. That would have given us a chance to win a few games while bringing up the underclassmen in the system he wanted to eventually have in place. Then this year would be the year Ianello could prove that he is the guy and that his way is the way to build a strong football program, instead of pushing it back to year 3 or 4 like it looks now.

If Chisholm is so great, why didn't he play last year instead of redshirting? Lord knows we could have used someone like what some Zips fans are proclaiming him to be. Same goes with Suel at WR.

Another preview of the Zips.We lost so much on offense.

They fixed it about a week ago, after much welding was done. Seems that the damage extended further than just the tarp getting torn off. -

Zips get first FB commitment!
ZachTheZip replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Rivals lists him as a LB, but I think he could also play Safety, TE, or WR. I think Zipmeister would agree with my assessment that he's too tall for be a Cornerback for us. -

2011 Season Predictions
ZachTheZip replied to UAZipster0305's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
I'll say Men to the Elite Eight. We typically face our stiffest challenges of the tournament in the Elite Eight, with Tulsa two years ago and Cal last year.Women make it to at least the MAC championship game. -
ATH Daryan Martin commits to the Zips! The Davis twins, Chris and Demitrious, from Austintown Fitch commit to Pittsburg.

The OL needs to improve greatly for the Zips to be competitive. lets hope coach Browning can get the job done.
