  1. UA gets a record amount of donations for the 2010-2011 school year. Fundraising totals for the University of Akron over the past six years: 2010-2011: $46.7 million 2009-2010: $40.8 million 2008-2009: $43.9 million 2007-2008: $41.0 million 2006-2007: $32.3 million 2005-2006: $25.0 million
  2. Add Sinisa Ubiparipovic to the growing list of ex-Zips on the Impact's roster.
  3. The College Soccer professor puts us at #1 As the defending champs, we'll stay at #1 until someone beats us (no one is going to beat us ).
  4. 5'10" Katie Nunan commits to play for Jodi Kest and the Zips. It doesn't say what position she plays, but I would guess a 2 or 3 based on her height.
  5. They're upgrading the soccer stadium. The work might involve setting the area up for future construction on the baseball side. I know there's supposed to be some kind of pavilion or something going in where the baseball, soccer, softball, and track fields meet.
  6. I like it.
  7. Just start power-walking around the track and you'll blend right in.
  8. With any ZNO posters as kicker instead of Igor/Branko we win five.
  9. Regarding practice today, our very own GA Tim Carroll tweeted the following: "1st practice went well. Guys worked hard and learned a lot. Round 2 in 3 hours." "better than we've ever been. We're stacked with talent 1-13"
  10. Anybody else get their ticket today?
  11. The team will hold walk-on tryouts. I know that there are some pretty good baseball players at UA who weren't playing for the team.
  12. I can't watch this at work. What's it say?
  13. Too bad Nik can't go on the trip. But I guess it helps the coaches evaluate what kind of talent we have behind him at that position.
  14. New offer: OT Logan Dietz Carlutorbantu Zaramo commits to Ball State.
  15. Gets engaged to his college sweetheart. Congratulations, D!
  16. I'll be going. I want to support the players in their monumental task of overcoming ultraconservative playcalling to beat a more talented opponent.
  17. Winning the EMC means we're on the right track. It means we're doing the little things the right way, making small improvements to facilities or institutional support that pay off in big ways.
  18. Porter not interested. "It's the right job at the wrong time."
  19. Good. More distractions to take the game off the minds of the OSU players.
  20. CB Kevin Buford commits to Toledo WR James White commits to Bowling Green.
  21. A replacement will be named tomorrow.
  22. Here is a very good article discussing what it takes to be successful in smaller sports where the balance of power is very one-sided. The two most common trends among the dominant programs in small sports are funding and facilities. Notice how we won the Men's Soccer championship just as those two things were brought up to the level of the top programs. The same can be done with our other sports. Women's Soccer is set to benefit in a big way thanks to the facilities upgrades and a boost in funding brought in from the Men's side. They are the closest to breaking through. Baseball is the farthest away, but took a big step with the new coach and could take another giant one when the stadium gets built as a part of the "athletic pavilion" being built between the Baseball, Soccer, Softball, and Track fields. You have to spend the same as the dominant programs to win in any sport. However, some sports don't really cost that much to be at the top. If you can creat a self-sustaining program in two or three "small sports", it takes the pressure off of football and basketball, and allows them to be better funded. Read the article, it can be done with all our sports with very little strain on our athletic budget.
  23. New offer: ATH Khalif Herbin
  24. I'll take a good look at it on August 7th when the Lady Zips scrimmage CSU.
  25. Good stuff. Added him to the list at the beginning of the thread.
