Akron students have been picking up their tickets for about a week now at the ticket office. I don't know how they're distributing tix to the season ticket holders who ordered them.

Steve McNees is now leaving to play in Austria.

"Commit Scoop: 6-foot-5/2012/WG/Reggie McAdams from Elida, Ohio(HS) has pledged to Keith Dambrot and the University of Akron Zips." He also happens to be the starting QB for his high school's football team (and had picked up an offer from Can't State).

The Lady Zips played well today, especially considering that they've only been practicing together for a week. They pulled off a 4-0 victory over the Vikings. Interestingly, the game was played in three 30-minute sessions. I don't want to read too much into an early season scrimmage, but this team looks pretty legit. They will score a lot of goals this season. The stadium is under construction. Brick walls are going up extending from the sides of the grandstand, behind the lower premium seating. Hard to tell, but I think we'll have restrooms/lockerrooms under the new seats. They've torn up the circle in the center of the walkway that connects the Soccer/Baseball/Softball/Track complex. I think some kind of pavilion will be put there. A concession stand that could serve all sports would make sense.

Some Zips news for those wanting something beyond practice recaps: Brett McKnight got his degree and is leaving in a week to play in Germany.

Tomorrow marks the first sporting event of the 2011-2012 year when the Lady Zips play CSU on Cub Cadet field at 1:00. It's a good opportunity to check out the construction of the expanded grandstand. Stop by after watching the basketball practice.

And I believe the team could do that even if we didn't have any newcomers contributing to the team. Are you expecting Abreu or McClanahan or others to take a major step back?

If you recall, Williamson was a player to keep an eye on as a potential transfer to the Zips.

It's a looong way from being a top-16 team to being a national championship contender. I would argue that there's a bigger gap between #1 and #16 ranking than there is between last year's Zips squad and the #16 ranking.

At least we now know that the VCU game is Dec 29th. Lucky for VCU that its over winter break.

Ones guess depends on one's access to information about the team. The more you know, the more accurate your guess can be. Also, its not about where these publications rate us, but where we finish. And I say we'll finish ranked somewhere between #25 and #15.

It's not so much the playing time as the extra practices. But if he's over there mixing it up with Euroleaguers, that's fine. Still couldn't hurt to develop a little more chemistry after so much turnover. Also, Egner noted on Twitter after the first practice today how much athleticism is on the team. "Running and jumping". The team is practicing, we have a pre-season schedule against a bunch of Canadian teams, athletes for fall sports report to camp today, but we still don't have a basketball schedule announced. Are we still seeking opponents? What's taking so long?
