Looks like he ended up going to Gannon on scholarship.

1350 AM is having a contest. Who has hotter fans, Akron or Can't? Alright. Time to fess up. Who uploaded those entirely accurate pictures of the Can't fans?

Notice not a single wooden bleacher in sight. That's one of the JAR's biggest drawbacks, along with the track/railing.

He came from Notre Dame, but as a position coach. He never had to answer any questions for them. It's different being the head coach. And is it just me, or he always seem supremely annoyed when he has to give an interview? Another question: What is the biggest difference between recruiting for Akron and recruiting for places like Notre Dame or Wisconsin?

I'm glad this is back. it's easy for winning coaches to take questions, but it takes guts to take open questions when things are going the way they have. My question for coach Ianello: Jalil Carter was an all-MAC Safety last season. With our secondary lacking depth and with Carter not producing all that much at Receiver, is there a possibility to move him back to help on defense? Edit: Looks like johnnyzip84 beat me to the punch. OK. New question: You have shown no reservations about giving playing time to true freshmen. Is this a matter of them having more talent at their positions, or is there a lack of leadership being shown by upperclassmen which is causing them to be sat down?

Under 10k. I was there, but left after the score was 7-3 to head to the Akron vs. Can't volleyball match in Can't. At least I got to see one team today who knows how to fight through adversity to earn a win.

I think many of our coaches aren't good coaches. Both our offensive and defensive coordinators are beyond terrible. Some of our position coaches can't actually coach, but were brought in to be recruiters. I'm sick of hearing about how great recruiters these people are. I want to have a staff that can coach, that can take an unpolished kid with some potential and turn him into an all-MAC player in four years.

Great to see them bounce back from a rough start. Bad to see that maybe 100 people even stayed to watch them. But that's what happens when your kickoff is at the exact same time that Homecoming begins. Hopefully thwey get a decent crowd on Sunday.

You'll want to park in the new deck. Parking will be a nightmare tonight. There is a high school football game at the Info, and the Cavs Wine/Gold Scrimmage is also tonight in the JAR.
-
Is he talking about this season or forever in the future? I'm certain that eventually our record will cause some bottom-of-the-MAC team that can't afford to overlook us to overlook us and we'll pull off the upset after being 14-point dogs.

I'm at the game. The referee screw-job is tremendous.

It's on 1350 AM. Steve French with the call.

Soccer the most profitable program at Akron??
ZachTheZip replied to bobbyake's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
I won't get into all of the assumptions you made here, but at least look at your math. This year, soccer sold 750 season tickets at an average of $75 apiece, That alone is over $55,000 and that does not count GA ticket sales. And with your other assumption if we sold out every game and had 1500 students in attendance, that would still be 2700 paying customers. At $5 apiece and 14 homes games, that would be $189,000. I'm not saying it operates at a profit, but at the very least your ticket math is a bit off. Crap. I knocked off a zero somewhere. That's what I get using my phone for a calculator. You're right, my math is way off. But I was being generous with the amount of paying customers by assuming only 1500 students show up per game. In reality it's more than that. But as far as soccer operational cost, there was an article linked to Zipsnation a year or two ago that showed the cost of the top-10 non-revenue sports, with Men's Soccer at the very top. It was $600,000 per year, and ours is much higher thansk to paying Coach Porter an order of magnitude more money than most college soccer coaches (don't get me wrong, it's money well spent). Your $189,000 figure doesn't even cover coach Porter's salary. Soccer doesn't cover even 50% of the cost of the program. I think Football breaks even or comes close. -
Between egging on NIU fans over ancient history (Alex Allen is the only person involved in the football program or athletic department that was even around for the MAC championship game) and hijacking OSU Soccer facebook events I can see where we might come across as being "classless".

The average NCAA soccer program costs about $600k to run. Ours costs easily over $1 million thanks to higher coach's salaries and a high home-game production value (fireworks, two concession stands, more ticket staff and security, etc.). If we sold out all our home games and got the full 14 home games possible, at $5 a ticket and with 1500 students attending on average brings in just $15k. Season ticket premiums bring it to around $25k. Concessions and advertising maybe doubles it to $50k. Soccer operates at a massive loss. -
Sorry to bring OSU into the conversation, but OSU had a QB named Steve Bellisari about 9 years ago. I am convinced that, had he played Safety at OSU, you would be watching him on Sundays (or would have watched him for at least 6-7 years). I have seen D'Orazio a couple times in person, seen highlights of him, read some things about him. From everything I have seen and read, this kid would be all-MAC at safety VERY early in his career. Not saying he cannot be a QB, but not sure if that is his best position. Just last year, we had a kid named Devoe Torrence who was projected to be an All-American linebacker, but he chose instead to line up as a RB behind several established veterans. Then he quit the team.

Run the ball, stop the run. Run the ball, stop the run.

I'm heading down on the bus, but if you're tailgating I think there is a fairly large parking lot adjacent to the soccer stadium, to the south ( just northwest of Value City Arena, west of their practice football fields and fieldhouse). OSU fans use it to tailgate for football games, so I think you should be fine there.

Apparently we've lucked into being better than OSU at soccer for the entirety of the existence of our program. And OSu really is supposed to have the better soccer program in the eyes of the recruits, that we've only seen success recently and are somehow taking away from their ability to compete. Please.
-
Bingo. We didn't play a tough OOC team. We don't have a rough conference schedule.
-
Where in the world is our JUCO receiver Marquello Suel? Has he even played yet this year? What about Anthony Schrock? Wouldn't these players play if the coach was focused on winning this season and not "building" in hopes of improvement next year?
-
The fatal flaw in our D is the "big play". But what can you do to eliminate that?
-
Now we at least look respectable. How much is Indiana being much worse of an opponent than Kentucky, and how much of it is Akron improvements?
-
Maybe that's why he's not playing much WR.
