UA drops "Success Coach" contract.
ZachTheZip replied to ZachTheZip's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
I actually see that one sticking. Cutting the program would lead to those kids going elsewhere, and UA can't afford any dips in enrollment right now. Instead, I see Scarborough being shown the door over the summer. The Trustees need a scapegoat. -
Thanks for posting. Kato is one of the new players I'm most excited about.

LeBron's name carries a lot of weight. You put his name on an arena, and other companies will jump aboard to have their name next next to his. Naming rights for the court and for the entrances/lobbies would be the big ones. The money that comes from that takes off some financial pressure from the primary investors. Basically, we don't need him to pay for the whole thing, just to get the arena naming rights.

So it was the state that pushed this idea?

The coaches and recruiting staff has been very, very busy the last few months.

I just want two good home opponents. And they don't even have to be "good" good. Just a team from the lower A-10 or even upper half of the Horizon.

Aramark is a fairly controversial company, and Akron switched to them just as their reported controversies were reaching a peak. However, my biggest beef with them making the switch is that they stopped inviting food trucks on campus. If you worked near campus or downtown they were a quick walk or drive to get some different food options from the fairly limited regular downtown fare.

His Nike contract is now valued at $1 billion. That's just one contract, it doesn't count his NBA salary, other brand deals, or any movie royalties. Plus if he really does do a Space Jam 2 and it lives up to the hype, his value could grow by a significant amount. Crazy to think about.

Yes. As of right now, there is no date set. Until the negotiations are finished and a contract is signed, nothing is official. We won't know when we're playing them, if we're getting a paycheck, if it's part of some larger scheduling arrangement, or anything else until then.

Sometimes you have to call back even after getting turned down. Nobody gets everyone they want on their schedule, not even the powerhouse programs. They might tell you no, because they're negotiating with someone else. But if the spot is still open a few weeks later, they might be more willing to schedule you.

He has to sit out this upcoming year due to transfer rules. I don't know the scholarship situation for 2017 well enough to say whether someone has to be dropped.

At the level Michigan State plays at, you can't get injured. Ever. As soon as you do, someone younger is always there to take your minutes and is talented enough to keep them. I just hope he's fully recovered and fully motivated once he becomes eligible. You don't start games at Michigan State without having a TON of potential.

Played HS ball with Aaron Jackson, I believe.

Stark State to build at Perkins & Route 8
ZachTheZip replied to Blue & Gold's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
I wanted to see an arena there, with a proper parking area surrounding it. Still, I think this will be good for both the city and UA. How does this benefit UA? By further cementing the area east of Downtown as an area of higher education in people's minds. Maybe even planting the idea of Akron as a really big college town. We could see more college-oriented businesses pop up on the north side of campus, which needs new development more than the south side does now. Also, it helps students that might not have gone to UA because of the newly implemented higher admission standards. Now they can go to Stark, and transfer into Akron with an associates degree, and UA doesn't have to sink money into offering as many basic gen-ed courses as they do. -
Most of that increase will be going towards upgrading the JAR's broadcast capabilities to ESPN3 standards, at least in the beginning. The broadcast upgrade for all MAC basketball/football facilities was a big part of the deal, and most MAC schools have already completed it.

Who says we lost them?
