  1. Verballed to Pittsburgh.
  2. With CJ Kaufman having graduated, this year the Soccer player blog has been taken over by GK Anthony Ponikvar. "In the box with Poni".
  3. Hence why teams should schedule beatable BCS teams, not $ games. I had hoped that my use of the word FORMIDABLE would get noticed. I wouldn't expect a MAC-level school to make progress in the "others receiving votes" category, or have any chance of reaching the top-25, if they do not beat a significant opponent. It all depends how you are defining the word "beatable", but if it means possibly beating a bottom-feeder Big 11 school, do you think that would get all that much attention on the national stage? I don't. Ball State was in the top 25 in 2008, and their best wins came against Indiana and Navy. CMU was in the top 25 a couple of years without beating a single BCS opponent. You just need a good record and then build a lot of hype to get voters to notice.
  4. 5 MAC coaches vote in the polls. I'm sure some of them put a MAC team at #25. They always do at the beginning of the season.
  5. The new splash page on gozips.com has changed from soccer to one for the football flex plan.
  6. I would be fined into oblivion by the FCC by halftime of the first game if I talk anything like I do watching from the stands. It would be entertaining, though.
  7. I don't know. That Gardner Webb team looks pretty tough.
  8. I'm wondering, at this late date, if they might end up bringing Joe Dunn back in the booth and sending someone brand new on the sidelines. Don't get me wrong, I like Joe Dunn and all but I am HOPING for someone with a little more radio presence next to Frenchy. They sure don't have a lot of time. There are some communications students who call high school football games on 88.1 WZIP. They're not too bad at it, either. Most of them are huge Zips fans and would jump at a chance like this.
  9. Yeah. I think when the new parking deck opens it will clear out a lot of surface lot space.
  10. I heard they ended up moving the Syracuse tailgaters to a different lot. Looks like UA might end up pushing out the Akron partiers in Lot 34 to make room. It's not that they're bringing the most people ever to tailgate at an Akron football game (Can't used to bring nearly 10,000 back when they actually had fans), but since we moved away from the open fields of the Rubber Bowl it's not as easy to just park all your cars in one area and stake out a nice open spot.
  11. I'm sad to hear that. Does anybody know if he is moving up or if is it a result of ISP being bought out?
  12. I don't remember much about the spring game except that it was cold, boring, and the concrete in the stadium was crumbling already.
  13. I thought you joined already, zip37? Maybe you signed up but forgot.

  15. Easy there! Some of us cannot make it down to Akron on a weekday to watch practice. Some of us actually use Twitter as an effective commuication tool to keep up on our favorites things (college sports, microbreweries, music). Just because YOU don't see Twitter as a worthwhile form of communication, do not critique those of us who use it to keep informed about our team. -End of rant. Twitter is a great communication tool. This morning, the coach has put up an open invitation to ask him questions about practice via Twitter.
  16. I've heard that a lot of talent that was stuck on the bench under Brookhart is challenging for starting spots this year, like Gary Pride. We could be a more talented a team than last year on the field despite having largely the same roster.
  17. ESPN reports that RB Karell Bostick of Oradell NJ has verballed to the Zips. One of the top 30 players in the state of NJ according to Rivals. No highlight video or 40 time that I can find.
  18. 3rd campus Starbucks to open by Aug 23rd The bike shop will be transformed into a Verizon store.
  19. According to http://twitter.com/UACoachPorter, Darlington Nagbe, Anthony Ampaipitakwong and Kofi Sarkodie were all named to the 2010 Hermann Trophy Watch list. The official list hasn't been released yet.
  20. Lady Zips get taken down 2-1 in a game with lots of substitutions. Looks like Akron packed it in on defense after scoring early to let UM get off far more shots later on.
  21. I remember when he transferred to Copley because he couldn't handle being Tyrell Sutton's back-up at Hoban.
  22. It's the start of college sports! The Zips women's soccer team is currently in Ann Arbor taking on the Michigan Wolverines in the first intercollegiate competition of the year for any Akron sport. Whether you follow the team or not, this game symbolizes the end of the college sports drought. And getting a win at Michigan would be nice, too.
  23. No. He does have a case of monster knees, though.
  24. That may not be entirely current, knowing how gozips.com keeps things up-to-date. The Rowdies have recently opened their own website, http://www.akrowdies.org Sign-ups will be held on Welcome Weekend, August 21st and 22nd.
  25. Akron/Family is an inexplicably popular search term on both Youtube and Twitter.
