Remember that quote of his from earlier in this very thread? The one saying that he'll go to Akron or Cinci only so they can be a stepping stone to get to Ohio State. This kid will either go to Columbus or a prep school. His mind is made up, even if OSU won't take him.
-
Are you or the yard Nome going to explain this one?I thought gnome retired. I think the kid is confused. Part of the Temple deal with the MAC was, we let them play football in our conference and in turn, they had to play every MAC team at least once in basketball.Close. The deal is once at home and once away. Otherwise you would have teams that get stuck with a road game with no guarantee and no return game, while others get to host a good team without having to pay them.
-
The Temple game is part of the MAC's contract with Temple football. We owed them a return game after they played at Akron.
-
Do we have a director of football operations? Daryl Weston was removed when they fired JD's staff, but I haven't heard anything about the university hiring a new one and no staff member or grad assistant has been named as a replacement.

According to Rivals, Hall is the #1 recruit in entire state of West Virginia.
-
I'm not sure who you would contact for that. Akron does a very poor job of celebrating its past.

Time to move on, folks.WMU message boardThis game is a big one. The toughest MAC West road game, and the chance to see if the Zips were able to learn from their experience at Can't. The Broncos have David Kool, who can outscore anyone in the MAC. He'll get his points, but the Zips can limit him. The real key is to shut down his support. Keep his teammates from feeding him the ball and limit second-chance points. The Zips should win the inside battle with a better frontcourt. The WMU fans know this is a big game, but I can't see them having anywhere near the crowd that Buffalo or Can't had.

THAT is why we need to play more road OOC games
ZachTheZip replied to Quickzips's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I dont know how you expect Zeke to step up when he's riding the bench in an important game that he was playing well in.Dambrot's interview after the game indicated that he's ready to play Zeke more often. -
The other Anthony Hitchens

What do Zips Fans Really think?
ZachTheZip replied to MDZip's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
People ask who cares about soccer. I ask who cares about the pizza pizza bowl?A national championship in soccer gets us more press than winning a single NCAA tournament game. Now, if the choice was going to the sweet sixteen, then I would take basketball but just barely. Elite Eight or farther and it's basketball hands down. The thing is that we're way closer to winning a title in soccer than we are making it to the elite eight in basketball. -

I don't think that it has too much to do with the number of road games, but more with the intensity of the crowd. If we had played St. Francis or UIC on the road instead of at home, would it really have prepared the team for what they saw against Can't or Buffalo, with the biggest crowds of the year for both those games? Would playing at more BCS teams have done it? I doubt it because the crowds there are uninterested in playing Akron so you don't get that intensity. The real problem is the lack of will. This is where losing Nate Linhart hurts the most. He was able to win games through sheer force of will. His desire to win spread to his teammates and made them more focused. Who do we have on the team right now that does that? It should be the seniors, but Chris McKnight doesn't have it and Conyers was never able to develop it because he hardly saw the floor until this season. So it's up to the underclassmen to become the leaders. My challenge is to Zeke and the underclassmen. Nate Linhart was a very quiet person, but his competitive drive was unmatched. He led by example, by getting the most floorburns and simply playing to win. This is what you need to become. Lead by example. When you're on the court or on the bench or in practice, you need to show the will to win. -
I wholeheartedly agree with every part of this statement. But I'll wager everything I have that the outcome on March 5th is entirely different; as well as the mac tourney. I just have that deep down gut feeling that Akron Basketball is gonna finish everything the right way this year. I agree. And on March 5th, let's hope the AK rowdies use some originality and wit and not something on the order of Can't State SUCKS or regurgitate, "why so quiet?" We're counting on you AK rowdies. You help make a difference.Today wasn't original enough for you? We had 30+ tickets in the middle of their reserved seats and kicked about 15 people out of their seats who were sitting in them when we all went down a few minutes into the game. You should have seen the faces of the usher and cop who tried to stop us and realized we had every right to be there.really? they didn't revoke your tickets and threaten to throw you out and keep your money if you didn't move like they did last year at the women's bball game? They didn't. But I'm sure they wish they could have. The house was packed, and it would have been impossible to remove the Rowdies without making an even bigger scene and giving them the attention they were seeking. And for the record, they didn't keep the money from the women's game. They were nice enough to give back refunds while kicking us out.

http://www.ohio.com/news/82520807.htmlLooks like they're finally putting it into law (zoning law, that is). Up until onow the whole thing was just talk and one hard-to-read sign off of Market Street. This is a good thing for the city and the university. Time to move away from the Rust Belt moniker and leave the other NE Ohio cities to keep holding on to their manufacturing background even though it's never coming back.

Rodgers will see some time in the wildcat, I imagine. He can really hurt a team with his legs.

Notre Dame was terrible (by their standards) while Ianello was there. The only thing he learned coming from there is that it's wasy to recruit when you're the most well known football program in the country.I still don't understand how he deserves any "benefit of the doubt". Has he done something to earn it? I don't see anything on his resume that says he might be a good head coach. I don't see anything that tells me that he can keep a staff full of people with huge egos in check. All I see when I read reactions about him is "he's from Notre Dame in some capacity, and that's all you need to know so stop worrying".

Highly Regarded Recruits Visit Akron
ZachTheZip replied to rln's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Our class is a small one. I think we have something like 18 or 19 scholarships to give, and I think we have 11 locked up. Most schools have at least 20 recruits per class. Akron has to be more selective than usual when offering scholarships. -
Highly Regarded Recruits Visit Akron
ZachTheZip replied to rln's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
There are not many spots left in the recruiting class. Then again, for every recruit we get under Ianello we seem to lose a Brookhart player or recruit. -
Yeha? Well, the user rating's 5 stars, and i trust the random internet people more than the rating services. So congrats to Rob Ianello on landing a 5 star recruit!

So both of the football coach "scoop" sites are reporting that Getsy is coming to Akron to be a Grad Assistant. I thought he left here to become a coach at some college in WV, so I wonder what made him retuen, if this is true. Then again, Pitt fans are saying on their message boards that he's taking the same position at Pitt and they're not happy about it.
-
There it is. I knew someone put it up on Facebook a few years ago.
-
I think we'll sell out the game at the JAR. It's the primetime game on ESPN2! It's THE event of the week for NE Ohio.
-
ESPN ConversationThe smack talk war must rage across the internet, from ESPN to the MAC boards to Rasor's Blog.
-
If only we could switch Syracuse and Gardner Webb, I would like it more. We need that easy game to get things together under the new coach before facing a real challenge.
-
Zach, was that you out on the court last night for one of the timeout shooting contests?Wasn't me. That was an imposter Zach!
