  1. Heard somebody yell "let's go Akron" pretty loudly over the feed.
  2. Thanks. That's at least something for those of us who can't get 1350 AM on the radio.
  3. Who said they had to get matched against MAC West teams? So you're proposing a challenge where only the MAC East teams are involved? If we're doing a conference challenge, then somebody from the other conference will get stuck playing the crappy teams and i don't see them agreeing to that.
  4. I doubt that the MAC would be able to convince another conference to play a "challenge" schedule like the Big Ten/ACC thing because nobody wants to be matched up with a MAC West team. We need a more solid middle, instead of having four or five very good mid-majors and the rest being horrible teams every season.
  5. Wyoming's coach has said that Akron will be the most physical team they've played all year, and that includes Tennessee and Northern Iowa.
  6. I think Wyoming leads the nation in getting fouled. Get ready for an attempted screw job by the refs.
  7. Really! The MAC has a contract that allows them to boot Temple if they change football coaches? (The yard nome strikes again)No, but they do have one that ends after next season. Unless it gets renewed or is altered, Temple is gone from the MAC after the 2010 football season.
  8. Hopefully Golden gets picked up by some BCS program and then the MAC can dump this stupid arrangement as they flounder.
  9. I'll take 2000 fans in the JAR watching the Zips play St Francis over zero fans in the JAR because we're playing a road game.
  10. Keep on whining about our schedule. There is no amount of top 25 teams or marquee opponents that can make up for having to play against so many crappy MAC teams. You could go into MAC play with the #1 SOS and by the end of the regular season you'll have a triple-digit SOS ranking. Plus if you do schedule like a madman, you'll end up with a terrible record like Miami.Akron plays enough top-100 RPI teams. Austin Peay, NC State, TAMU, and Rhode Island. That's 4 out of 13 D-I games. We also play enough 200+ RPI teams. The trouble is that we don't have enough non-conference games against 100-200 teams. 4 top-100 games, 5 mid-level games, and 4 bottom-feeders is a good schedule. The problem is that some solid mid-major teams we scheduled are having down years like UIC, Drake, and Wyoming. They might end up being better once they get into playing their softer conference schedule. There's no point in complaining about strength of schedule before our opponents play their full seasons.
  11. 5 things to watch: Akron @ Wyoming according to a WYO blogger.
  12. I think we need to get a leg up on other schools: forget high school relations cause lots of schools are doing that. We need someone in charge of junior high /middle school relations. This is the only way we will get ahead. But we already do that. How many middle-school and grade school kids have we seen at the JAR doing some crappy dance routine as the half-time "entertainment" for basketball games?
  13. Double ouch.
  14. Some crack reporting from the New York Times: NIU will not be joining the Big Ten.The statement by their spokesperson betrays them as one of the schools who is content with the status quo in the MAC. They could have said something more tactful "The Big Ten hasn't officialy contacted us at this time, but we're always trying to improve our program." That leaves a little bit of doubt and gets some buzz going even if everybody knows it won't really happen. They way they flat out stomped on any possibility of it happening was not a wise way of handling the situation.
  15. This is an ATM game for UNCG. The game is being played at Greensboro Coliseum which seats 20,000. My guess is 18,000 of those fans will be rooting for WF. I'm sure UofA could get a home game like this if they were willing to play it in Cleveland.Name the team that would draw 20k to the Q in a matchup with the Zips. There are only two. Pitt and Ohio State. I would say to go for the Buckeyes, since we stand a better chance of beating them in a given eyar.
  16. Just saw it aired again on MNF. I had honestly forgotten about it.
  17. Coach I's first offer is to 5'11" 190lb Safety Ryland Ward of Brookhaven HS. Offered by basically every other MAC school.
  18. We are only an interior-oriented team when we need to be. We are a guard-oriented team when we need to be, as well. It's hard to pass up playing in the Big East or ACC. Besides, we have no scholarships to give.
  19. The Zips lose 55-43 in a hard-fought but frustrating game. Temple's strategy on defense was apparently to foul on every possession and take away the three ball. It worked. Temple has a good record, but they weren't all that impressive from what I saw. I think that the lady Zips could be in for a decent season.
  20. ESPN is missing Mike Bizzarro. I also was under the impression that WR Lawrence Smith had verballed to Akron, not Ohio.
  21. We can't get deals like this because the closest comparable program is Pitt, which is 90 miles away. WF and UNCG are only 26 miles apart. They share the same media market and the same geographical area when it comes to an alumni base.If we were that close to a BCS program, they would probably play at the JAR once in a blue moon to boost the RPI with a road win in place of a home win.
  22. I laugh at the morons that constantly drive around the parking decks waiting for a spot to open. Their complete ignorance to the number of other parking areas is astounding. I too don't waste time looking for a space. I always go to my first-choice parking area first. If thats full, I move on to my second and third choice. On average, I dont spend more than 15 minutes finding a parking space. I would love to see them build a pedestrian bridge over exchange. Most of the pedestrian traffic there is contained within the McDonalds and Exchange St Dorms, so a bridge there would be perfect...Same here. We have the laziest student body ever. Willing to drive in circles at 5mph for an hour to get a spot next to the building your class is on but refuses to park in the always empty Lot 9 and walk for two minutes on our nice, new sidewalks. And another vote for a bridge over Exchange. I want to be able to park behind Folk Hall and get to campus without dodging city busses. I want to quickly stop at Dairy Queen for a blizzard between classes. I think it would also help the businesses across the street out greatly and you might see them start to cater more to the students than the 'hood behind them.
  23. Tonight at 7:00 is the biggest game of the season for the women's basketball team. The Zips are 6-5 so far, and Temple is 9-2 coming off a loss to Villanova. A win here would be a monumental upset but Akron is a tough, scrappy team. Hopefully there is a good crowd for a women's game. Lots of AK-Rowdies would be nice (and they should want to show up thanks to a point system being put in place). The girls really feed off of the energy of a loud crowd. This game is part of the deal with Temple for football. Temple must play every MAC team once in men's and women's basketball over the course of their contract.
  24. The problem with Zips Zone is that it's not its own seperate video feed. It's just the feed for the scoreboard. It can still be the camera up top, but without all the animations. This should be a high-priority issue for the AD. Not just for basketball, but for all major sports. Model it after the Horizon network or come up with something of your own, but it can't remain like it is. Let the AD watch a game on ZipsZone instead of actually attending a game. Experience the product that you're trying to sell to your customers.
  25. Wyoming plays a similar defensive style (full-court press, which we haven't really seen yet) to Rhode Island. It's basically a warm-up for the big game and the last piece of experience needed to prepare for the MAC.Against Valpo, we didn't see much guard play from anyone. Against these two teams, we'll need to have great ball handlers on the court at all times along with Zeke. Having Zeke out there instantly breaks the press.
