Starting off the 2nd half poorly. What a surprise.

Zeke is a big guy, but he goes for the shot block and hence is often out of position for the rebound.CMU's not hitting shots. Go for the block if they're hitting, go for rebounds if they're not.

BLAM. There goes our offense. Humpty and Brett gone. Maybe it's time for Ronnie Steward to step up and make something happen.Put Zeke in at C, with Bardo as his back-up. Move Nikola to PF, and Chris McKnight to the 3-spot.

It will be interesting to see what happens to our offense without Brett. Maybe some other player will get the chance to stop up. Or maybe we'll get shut down.

Any students notice that Planet Underground has re-opened? It's not what it used to be, though. It was a video-rental place on the first floor of the basement of the Student Union, but now it's some kind of lounge that's open during the evenings. Looks like it's the kind of place that could easily be transformed into an on-campus bar if UA ever renewed their liquor license. Still, it's nice to see another unique dining option open up on campus. The more of these things there are, the more this place feels like a residential campus. I'll have to try it out before a game some day.

Not a bad idea, but both Ohio and that other school off I-76 have tried this and did not draw well. On the other hand, it's possible to get an away-and-neutral with a better team than you'd get a home-and-home with.Only one team would draw well at the Q against a MAC team, and that's Ohio State. No other team brings the interest they do. Pitt would be second, but they would have to being their own fans from Pittsburgh while OSU draws the locals.

I can't remember specifically the last time there wasn't a Zips-related article somewhere on the front page of the sports section. It's been at least a few months. People need to stop crapping all over the Beacon Journal. This was a good, in depth article.

Maybe it worked against us in the past. Being a UA grad meant seeing the Rubber Bowl, the lack of practice fields, the derelict academic buildings, and the lack of community interest. Most of those things are changed.

They barely scraped by Louisville. Hopefully that match allowed them to realize that just because they're undefeated doesn't mean they can coast to a win. I'm not sure if any of the teams that have beat are any good, but it's always safe to assume that BCS teams are upper-level in some way.What's more amazing is that they play without a real home court. They don't play matches on the courts next to the soccer field, and those courts will be torn down in the near future anyway. We talk about the facility upgrades that have happened over the past few years, but there's a very long way to go if we ever want to be considered for a BCS conference. We need a real tennis court for competition on campus. They could put it on the old softball field across Exchange, or on some of the land just north of campus. Tennis, Baseball, and Rifle need real facilities before we get a basketball arena.Now that the rant's out of the way, congratulations to the tennis team so far! Keep up the good work.

The only West team I would consider something of a rival is Toledo because of how similar the schools are.

This is the final game against the MAC West until the tournament. CMU is in first place in the West at 6-3. Weird things happen to Akron when they go to Mount Pleasant, and I don't think this time will be any different.Coach needs to find out what's wrong with Chris McKnight and Steve McNeese. It's a McDisaster when they're on offense. Steve is a guard, so the only way out is to keep shooting until you get your shot back, but maybe cut it back a little so we don't waste to many offensive possessions. I don't know what to think about a forward who can't make shots. Maybe if he can't get a dunk on the play he needs to kick it out to an open guard. Rack up the assists until you can hit your layups, and stop trying mid-range jumpers altogether.Another road win in the MAC is important, as is getting some kind of momentum going down the stretch.CMU message board

We play VT in 2015 as a one-and-done deal. Jackson will be a senior then, assuming he redshirts this season.

The two divisional champions get the top two seeds, no matter what.Right now, both the women and the men are sitting in the 3rd seed for the tournament. That's actually ideal for both of them, as it gives them the easiest path to the championship game.Of course, I would rather get the #1 seed overall for both sports. Can never have enough banners hanging from the JAR rafters.

That win makes up for the EMU loss in my opinion. On to Mount Pleasant.Now we need to root for Ball State to knock off Can't. That would make us the only East team to beat them and gets us an important tiebreaker.

Have they ever come out ready to play after halftime? It's like they think they have the game in the bag if they're up by more than two, and try to coast. Keep the accelerator on and expand the lead. It's impossible to maintain a specific margin over 20 minutes. You can only grow the lead or blow the lead.
