  1. Gulley to Syracuse, Hoobler to Indiana, etc.If only the Zips had a coach that could beat these low level teams we might be winning recruits from them instead of the other way around.
  2. I am really beginning to hate High School coaches around here.
  3. It's great to see him succeed.
  4. Right now it looks like Turner Gill will be heading to Kansas, and Butch Jones might be heading to Marshall (seriously... Marshall?).Akron needs to move fast if we don't want to have to compete with other MAC schools. The CMU job looks pretty appealing.
  5. Just because a coach was good at one point does not mean that they are a good coach at a later point.Nutt had some good years at Arkansas and is decent at Ole Miss, but it's too early to say whether he brought along the same problems that forced him out. Neuheisel was fired from Washington for betting. He hasn't had a winning season at UCLA. Holtz took South Carolina to a grand total of two bowls in six seasons. He was a bad coach for them after retiring from Notre Dame. Rodriguez was never fired (yet), but he hasn't been successful since he went to another school. Erickson is in the same boat as Rodriguez. The only one of those coaches that you could say is successful after being re-hired is Nutt. It's not a good track record. If a coach is successful at some place in the past but left under bad circumstances, odds are that they will not be successful at their new job.
  6. You don't need to look any further than the MAC East to see former Nebraska HC Frank Solich going to multiple bowl games with OU.BTW - I can name you two young, "up-and-coming" BCS-level assistant coaches who coached at UA and couldn't win - Lee Owens and JD Brookhart. That's one. Anyone else?I don't want any more BCS assistants. That route doesn't work at a school like Akron. These coaches come in used to having BCS funds to get whatever they want and which ever recruit they want, then they come here and can't handle having to work within limits and not having the media to back you up.
  7. Raw deal or not, I am hesitant to take in a former BCS coach. Can anyone name just three coaches who were fired from a BCS school and then were successful at another FBS school?
  8. Troy is getting to the point of being a "name" school, at least as much as a Sun Belt school could be.The MAC needs to have a good showing in the bowls. I don't think it will happen, but it would be nice to have a winning bowl record for the conference.
  9. Like today? Or maybe the end of the week? Or some time next year. Or maybe we'll just be a player-run organization next season. We haven't seen anything beyond what gets posted here on this website. Other schools, even the other "low-profile" schools have rumors running left and right on the "scoop" sites.
  10. A lot of speculation in the blogosphere that Mangino could be coming to Akron.I stand by what I said about not wanting any coach that was fired from a BCS school.
  11. I'm on the wait list for Akron's ticket office. They told me that we'll know whether there'll be any GA tickets by Tuesday. If not, then it's off to try and get a StubHub ticket.
  12. I thought we were supposed to hear something today.
  13. You want a scoop? Here's a scoop.http://www.latimes.com/sports/nationworld/...0,1507860.storyAkron has sought permission to speak to Richmond head coach Mike London.
  14. CMU is great because of one player. Ohio, NIU and, Temple are good because they are talented, balanced, and tough. I want to be like OU, NIU, and Temple are this year, every year. Then you get that one special player that pushes you over the edge and into the top 25.
  15. We're flying under the radar. I don't know if that means that we're not pursuing "name" guys that get mentions or if we're just good at keeping secrets.
  16. No self-respecting Division I school would offer him knowing that he intends to transfer out at the first opportunity.JUCOland will be his destination.
  17. I have to believe that we'll get the prime-time slot, with the game on ESPN2.
  18. He verballed to Syracuse.
  19. Simply amazing attendance.Only 1253 showed up to see the Tar Heels beat Drake. However, 4900 were in attendance for the Virginia-Maryland game.
