  1. I think it will be a high-scoring affair.I'm less interested in the final score than i should be. I'm more concerned with seeing whether Rodgers shows significant improvement from last game to this one.
  2. My experience during Brookhart's tenure here is that the seniors are never the leaders. The longer the players are here, the less they seem to care about the team or about winning. It feels like the best players are usually sophomores and juniors, but they seem to disappear as seniors.
  3. Aaaaaaany second now...
  4. Hmm. No storms in the area to delay the game, but the heat index is 88 degrees!
  5. Any second now the gametracker should spring to life.
  6. OSU doesn't have the "soccer culture" there, and creating one would be nearly impossible. Columbus is a football town and no number of national championships would draw any amount of attention.Their facilities are bigger but they feel sterile. The stands are seperated by a track, and everything is far away from the action. It's almost inevitable that Porter will be coaching at Indiana at some point in the future, unless we can somehow surpass their program's accomplishments and prestige. Right now Akron is the newcomer butting in on the old guard.
  7. http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=4527203Found this video on the soccer team on ESPN.Rate it 5 stars and leave some comments.
  8. After a long search, somebody found it. Video evidence of Zippy's most embarrassing moment.http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=275282120244Unfortunately, this is the only footage I can find, and you have to have Facebook to see it. Nothing on Youtube, or any site like that. Maybe somebody knows how to pull the video from the link and put it on an open site.
  9. The list is a joke, but so is my post. I guess sarcasm doesn't transfer well over the internet.
  10. Rasor just posted that we're sitting on the waiting list for the ESPN Bottom 10. Lose to Ohio and we're on it. And the season is completely shot, but that's not as important as staying off this list.
  11. It is all about winning, because winning generates more money than losing. If you want a steady flow of money to improve the program, you first have to win. A losing team gets lucky here and there with a few major donations from rich alumni who still care about their school, but a winning team gets donations from most of the rich alumni because we give them a (high-profile, which means they get to stroke their egos when their donation goes public) reason to care about their school.Winning cures all.Right now, all I want is to average 7 wins per regular season. That gets you into a bowl game every year and in the MAC East it gets you into the conference championship game every other year (which is essentially another bowl game). Some years you'll go above 7 wins, and some years below, but it gets established that you win more than you lose overall, and that's something that no other football team in the area could claim.
  12. It's going to start a chain-reaction of moving colleges on campus. The nursing school moves to where the old law school is (a much needed upgrade), which allows someone else to occupy or renovate Mary-Gladwin hall. At the exact same time, the college of education will be being built on the site of Memorial Hall, once the transfer to the stadium is complete, which allows a renovation of Zook Hall to match the one that happened to Leigh.
  13. If somebody's worried about jinxing the team, they haven't been following the Zips the past two weeks. I say do it. We could use the laughs.
  14. GP1, I agree with everything you said about scheduling. How can we hope to sustain any type of success when you spend the first third of the year getting beat up for a paycheck? 2005 was the last season that we didn't play at least 3 BCS teams, and that's because there were only 11 games in a season. If Akron wants to see success, they need to change the way they make money. Stop getting two or three paychecks a year, and replace them with home games. There's a very simple formula that can be followed to change this. You play ONE paycheck game per year, but only against a team that is known for handing out big $$$. If you're going to get paid to lose, you might as well get paid well. You schedule ONE 1-AA team every year as a home game, any more and they don't count towards bowl-eligibility. If possible, you schedule the 1-AA team to open the season which allows the team to work out their first-game mistakes in a safe environment. Then you schedule home-and-homes with two other teams, either low-level BCS or nonBCS teams. This gives you 6 home games (sometimes seven) every year, which will make your money for you. I think Akron is moving toward that schedule, but it takes years to set up.
  15. This is the kind of collapse that our rival was headed for under Jim Christian. I don't think their new coach will follow the same path.
  16. No problem Now I just wish they would put up a story to go with it.
  17. Pictures from the Beacon
  18. Man, did that win feel good! The Indiana game will probably end up as the bigger game as far as standings go, but the OSU game was more important as an attention-getter. Too much OSU apparel on campus today. Also, the OSU team was in the JAR before the game, shooting hoops on the basketball court.I do wonder if anybody at OSU tried to organize a road trip for this game, like UA did last year. If they tried, it wasn't successful. I'm kind of disappointed.
  19. It's a little out of my range, as far as road trips go, but I'm sure that I will be wishing that I made the trip as I'm trudging through the Ohio snow this winter.
  20. The hits keep on coming. I can't think of a worse week than the last one for the football team, ever.
  21. Game time forecast is 50 degrees and sunny.I hope the lights are working for this one.
  22. I think it really comes down to whether he wants to stay near home or go away for college.
  23. Nicely is no longer on the Scout team. He's second string, preparing to start in the case of an injury to Rodgers.I want to give Rodgers two more games. I think it is a reasonable amount of time for him to show that he is capable of leading the offense, or at least showing some improvement after the bye week. After that, if he hasn't progressed at all you still have half the season for Nicely to come in. It also gives Nicely some time to get prepared as a second stringer before throwing him to the wolves. Remember that he came into this season expecting to redshirt.
  24. McNight, Roberts and Conyers all graduate. Egner and Green will use 2 of the scholarships, that would leave one more available. Why is there confusion as to where the scholarship is coming from? Am I missing something here?I thought Roberts would be coming back for a 5th year.
  25. If the exterior is that far along, I don't know how they wouldn't be finished 11 months from now, especially since it's a huge priority. The brick is on but the building looks like an empty shell. They must want it to look nice from the outside first.A good strategy, since they're visible from Route 8 and Exchange. Like the luxury dorms on Exchange, they are broadcasting to the city that UA is a residential school with great dorms and that you should think about moving in if you are a student. It's especially effective when they're placed next to the hundred-year-old houses in the neighborhood.
