  1. They must sell season ticket packages or something. That's not a bad idea: sell a year-long season ticket package to all the non-revenue sports combined which pumps up the "counted' attendance across the board. Or make it a package with football.Look into that, marketing team. I give you permission to take that idea from me. In fact, I encourage it.
  2. We have two buildings with closet classrooms masquerading as basketball arenas right now.
  3. What happen to the arena talk across from canal park? perfect location, I talk to someone from the city and they said that is still being considered. It would be a terrible PR move for the city to spend money like that at this time.
  4. We talk about Cleveland State having a good schedule, and we talk about Akron trying to get a good schedule, but we don't talk about scheduling Cleveland State. Does anybody know a way to get Elton Alexander to interview coach Waters about why he won't schedule Akron?Anyways, I wanted to post this stat in regards of putting ourselves in a position for a at-large bid:At-Large Bids by non-BCS teams2004 = 122005 = 92006 = 82007 = 62008 = 62009 = 4Look at that. The committee has made it clear that unless you're at the caliber of Butler, Xavier, or Gonzaga that screws up in your conference finals you're not getting in. There is no putting yourself in that position unless we start pulling in nationally sought-after recruits every year and completely dominate the MAC for many years in a row like those teams have. Scheduling won't help as much as going 16-0 during the MAC regular season and making it to at least the tournament finals every year. You want a good schedule, get yourself invited to the pre-season NIT. Winning tournaments is how you upgrade your schedule because the further you advance the better the opponents' record become. It comes down to a choice: play lots of top teams on the road which reduces the number of home games and opportunities to attract a local following, or play mid-majors in home-and-home deals at the sacrifice of a top-50 schedule.Skip, if you want an example of your scheduling philosophy look at Miami. They went out and played tons of BCS teams, didn't beat a single one, and lost their point-guard to injury because of it. And then once they began their MAC schedule their SOS dropped from #2 in the country to #108. It doesn't matter how good the teams are we play when the MAC schedule bring it down so much that it destroys your chance of even getting into the NIT.
  5. A trade to Cleveland will destroy any hope of a career he may have had. The Browns will do nothing but harm for any good player out there.
  6. They also have one of Akron's new soccer stadium under "master planning".
  7. There's football spring practice going on right now, and the spring game is coming up soon. Men's Soccer will be playing the MLS champions Columbus Crew at Lee Jackson field in late April.Check out a Zips baseball/softball game or two, especially when they play at Canal Park against Can't.
  8. Remember this?
  9. He's listed as a center, but I think he could be perfect at the 4-spot next to Zeke. In fact, when we were playing Gonzaga I noticed just how much height they had on us and It made me realize that right now Akron is incredibly short on average.
  10. Short answer: No.Long answer: Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.Akron will have to earn the respect of the media and local fans all over again. It resets after the season ends and we start the cycle all over again. It's only after sustained success over many years that we'll see a consistently larger fan base. Just look at that team to the east as an example. I believe they had worse attendance than we did, coming off an NCAA appearance and being the favorite to win the MAC.Win the MAC three times in a row and you'll see improvement, because that means that we're a proven winner which is something this region lacks.
  11. As annoying as it gets for people who follow the Zips like we do, you can't deny that the LeBron connection is getting KD far more airtime than any coach of a 13-seeded team would seem to deserve. Milk it for all you can, while you have the chance I suppose. LeBron didn't even need to do anything, which is the best part. It's not like he's out there actively shilling for the team to the national media, which would actually make me a bit uncomfortable.
  12. I'll be wearing all my lucky items. It's go time. Bring back some wins boys!
  13. 2 wins? I'm hoping for 6 wins
  14. South Dakota now off the Zips schedule
  15. Nik at the 3 is a possibility, since Zeke will likely take over his spot as the Center
  16. This was a different one. They covered the same topics, but they were two different interviews. This is a direct result of LeBron James. Simply being in the same city as him creates media interest. Wearing his shoes doesn't hurt, either.
  17. Got it. Hope this works.Edit: not sure why there's an age warning. It's just ESPN.
  18. OK. I'm trying to see if I can bring up a clip.
  19. Which channel was this on? ESPN, ESPN2?
  20. Who is willing to move down? I have never seen anything to suggest that any program is seriously considering this move. Has any program ever moved down?Guys like Vandelay have said that some if not many of the MAC presidents want to drop to 1-AA and maintain a "business as usual" view on athletics but are being forced to play their hand by guys like Proenza who are aggressively trying to improve their programs, although Nick won't name which presidents are which (it's fairly obvious when you look at which schools are doing what). Some teams have moved down in the past I believe, but none recently.Anyways, it's all detailed here. Plenty of links to the other school's message boards and their views on the whole thing.
  21. The people in charge of hiring this guy are the university presidents. Keep that in mind. About half of them would be willing to drop down to the FCS level in football.
  22. Why not a 4th BCS team? Just because Syracuse and indiana are affiliated with the BCS doesn't make them better then a team like Boise State. In fact, Colorado would have been an easier game.
  23. They're really reaching on this. An evil uncle? Really?Actually, I have to give them credit here. They could have taken the easy path and reported about his incident at CMU, but instead they actually did some research and dug up something straight out of the blue.
  24. OVC commish named new head of the MACNo experience in big-time football, and most OVC fans blame him for their conference's decline in basketball. My guess is that he's a yes-man for the university presidents that want to scale back MAC athletics or ignore them completely. I smell a conference split soon. We'll take Buffalo, Toledo, and the others who are serious about sports and let the rest rot in FCS obscurity.
  25. Word is that Toledo has been forced by Rick Chryst to drop their saturday home game with Boise State to play Colorado on a friday, competing against high school football for fans. This means that Boise State is now in the market for a trip to a MAC school.
