Both of these teams suck. We should beat them.

I don't think the Can't game from this year counts. We went to double OT, and there was nothing miraculous about a missed FG. In those other games, we actively won by making a play. At Can't, they gave it to us because they screwed up.

This all started on the MAC board after a post by Dave from macreportonline.com lamenting his EMU Eagles' loss to Akron. A few posts in, Motown Bronco made a snarky reply: It got picked up by Elton Alexander and he posted it on his blog.I'm sure some of you have noticed this already. My question is, when did the tradition of pulling a win out of our ass every year begin? I can think of one of these wins every year going back to 2004. Here's my list:2008: @ Eastern Michigan. Zips win after a blocked field goal is recovered by the second string punter/holder who runs it for a first down with less than 30 seconds to go, allowing us to score the winning touchdown.2007: @ Western Michigan. The greatest win in Zips History. Getsy to Hixon proved to be too much for NIU and Garrett Wolfe. Hixon had missed most of the second half with severe cramps, but he had just enough in him to go out there for one final play, and what a play it was. He caught the TD that tied the game. The extra point won it for us.2004: Marshall. A great send off for the Thundering Herd as they were leaving the MAC. They only needed to beat Akron to secure the MAC East and finish their MAC run on top. It wasn't to be. On national TV, Marshall had a two-touchdown lead more than half way through the 4th quarter. They were driving again and were about to put up another score, when the Marshall player fumbled just before crossing the goal line, giving Akron the ball. Frye marched right down the field and scored, putting the Zips only down by 7. We then recovered an onside kick and scored again, tying the game. Marshall had the ball and was about to punt after a defensive stop, but their punter botched the snap and we blocked it. With time for only one play left, Akron kicked a FG to win the game 31-28. It seemed like our destiny to win that game, and Marshall still hasn't recovered.Can you think of any time we have Akroned an opponent going back even further every year? I want to know when this started.

They got their money. now they're trying to save on utilities (especially the heating bill now that it's cold out).I hadn't even noticed that it was closed all last week. The last significant thing I remember happening there was about a month ago when the place was swarmed with police after what looked like a pretty big bar fight.

Jacq is MUCH improved as a QB... for the first 3 1/2 quarters of the game. I really hope that he uses this time off to figure out what he needs to do not to cause turnovers at exactly the worst time possible.

You have to be bowl-eligible. That means not having a losing record. Assuming a loss in the championship game, you need 7 wins. Akron needs to finish 3-1.

It's not just Williams. The whole defense has disappeared. Nobody's making any tackles, nobody's pressuring the QB, nobody's doing a damned thing. Is the unit tired from being on the field too often thanks to our quick-strike offense? Is it the scheme that prevents players from actually playing? Something's wrong. I want to blame it on the 3-3-5 not putting talented guys in a position to succeed, but I think it goes deeper than that.

The scary part is that our future opponents have all figured out the defense already. If this defense was supposed to surprise other teams, then there should have been a whole bunch of different looks that we could run to cause confusion. I don't see them. We pick a look going into a game, and stick with it. Sure, it changes in between games, but unless we change it up constantly, we're using a scheme that we don't know how to run.

It wouldn't work. Miami was 6-7 after losing the MAC championship, and they sat at home. There are too many good teams in the West that would be picked up before a 6-7 East team even if they are eligible, like you say they would be.Bottom line: have at least 7 wins if you want to get to a bowl. Besides, if we end up at 6-6, it means we are 4-4 in the MAC, and that won't win the East.

Well, that is true, assuming UB loses to Army. Last I saw, 10-3 Army, 2:55 into the 2nd.Army isn't a MAC school. Buffalo's conference record remains at 1-2 no matter how they do today.

We just won. We're alone on top of the East. And I still am not excited about the rest of the season. All this was was a win over a bad team looking to take out their frustration of losing to Army on whoever they played. There's something magical about the way this team wins sometimes, from the MAC championship to WMU to EMU. Too bad we blow more tight games than we win.

He's a coach's son, how embarrassing would it be for Jim Fleming for his son to not play after we recruited him?My guess is that he wasn't going to play at all this season due to an injury, so he was removed from the team this year instead of redshirting because he doesn't need a scholarship (his education is free thanks to his dad's job at UA). That means that he would still have 5 years to play 4 after this season. At least that's what I am hoping happened.

FYI, the Zips are holding an open practice tonight at 7:30 in the JAR. Media and fans are all welcome.it's the first real chance to see the new look of the Zips. It's weird when you graduate 5 seniors. It's like a whole new team out there.

You would think they would want to use Seneca Wallace as WR given how their situation at that position is even worse than the one at QB.

I wrote on the underside of the beam. When I did it, there was nothing at all written down there. Now it's just as packed as everywhere else.

I'm all for expanding the campus to Market Street. Right now, our main "window" to the city is along Exchange street. All anybody sees there is an ugly Shrank Hall and the athletic fields (and soon the stadium). It would help to have another major entrance that is visible to lots of people along Market. Since the campus is closed off, few people get to see just how much it has changed except from what the get a glance at from their car windows. We're limited in the places we can put up a beautiful new building that the public will actually get a chance to see, due to barriers like the train tracks and Route 8.

Holy Sardines, Batman! Do we have room for another poly-sci building?We already have two beautiful poly-sci buildings: The iconic blue glass one with the rock candy statue, and the more practical one near train tracks and the bread factory. Plus countless research labs. We have plenty of room for a new one. There's all sorts of older buildings on the north end of campus that could be torn down.

I hope so. There's too many jackasses here who love nothing greater than to bring their own school down.

That's where most people's problem with the band comes from, I think. It's just not the type of stuff you want to hear from a college marching band at a football game. If the fans wanted to hear that, they could just pump it in over the loudspeakers.

I'm losing interest in the season. Unless they step it up, it's just going to be another season of being -almost- good. I'm tired of it. I want to see improvements.
