  1. You got it. I think there used to be alchohol served on campus, ans if there is significant money to be made they will sell it again.
  2. Th RB being dry is one of the largest reasons we struggle with attendance. College Football games need beer. That's just the way it is.Not to mention, if more people get drunk at the games, maybe they won't realize how terrible the teams they are watching really are.
  3. No wonder UA lost if no UA grads could be allowed on the jury due to having an affiliation with with the U. That only leaves the topix.net trolls and Can't grads as far as I am concerned.
  4. 3 freaking million dollars?!? For that POS shack? Are you kidding me?
  5. Any word about that supposed top opponent we might play at the Q?
  6. http://www.ohio.com/news/break_news/19486719.htmlThis seems like a good idea in principle, but some problems I see are the fact that it is surrounded by the ghetto right now (that may change if their plan to buy all the surrounding homes comes to fruition), and the price tag. They had better be the nicest apartments in the city for that price.Either way, they are definetely an improvement over what was there before.
  7. i don't remember this. anybody else remember this? It's a classic Akron marketing tool: the invisible PR campaign. You come up with a great idea, carry it out in the most discreet manner possible, and then put it on your resumé when it's time for a new job.
  8. I agree, but it is already something that is happening, and on a larger scale than just Temple in Football. There are actually currently four schools that are part-time MAC Affiliates: Temple with Football, Hartwick with Men's Soccer, Missouri State with Field Hockey, and Chicago State with Men's Tennis. In the past, UCF was football only from 2001-2004 if you remember, and Louisville was in the MAC for Field Hockey only a few years ago, even winning two conference titles. I know that none of them have nearly as high a profile as the Temple situation does right now, but that fact remains that the MAC is more than willing to bring in schools to play only one sport.
  9. Having Temple in the MAC for basketball would be a nice boost. WKU seems like they would do well in the MAC West for basketball, but terrible for football. WKU doesn't really for the MAC academic profile, nor do they provide any type of media market, but I guess our options are limited when trying to find schools to balance out the conference in football.
  10. Here is a screenshot of NCAA 09. It shows Akron's top 7 rated players according to them.http://www.operationsports.com/viewshot.ph...0&outof=208The list as far as I can tell (they don't have player names, just numbers and positions):#56 LE Almondo Sewell (Mondo looks to be a terror next year, especially with Ryan Bain taking a lot of pressure off of the rest of the line)#92 DT Ryan Bain (If half the things we hear about him our true, our DL will have gone from one of our biggest weaknesses last year to one of our biggest strengths)#21 DB Andre Jones (Moved to WR. I can only hope his impact there is anywhere close to what it was on defense)#30 LB Kevin Grant (He was solid last year, and should have an even better year this time)#1 WR I have no clue who this is supposed to be. Branden Anderson is listed as #1 on the roster, but I think it could be Deryn Bowser. Either way, we really need to have an impact WR or else we're sunk this season.#32 FB Joe Tuzze (We need to find a way to use this guy more often. #24 RB Bryan Williams (Moved to Saftey, where we need a guy of his talent level the most)I think there are some very worthy players not listed on this screenshot. I just hope that some players in our percieved weak spots can step up this year.
  11. Waddell doesn't get the job.He was far more qualified than the guy they picked.
  12. http://www.mlive.com/highschool/kzgazette/...&thispage=1 If only we had more people from our own city raised to have dreams of playing for UA.
  13. I've been hearing some rumors going around that aren't all that good in regards to how we will finish in the MAC this year.Remember, these are just RUMORS, but I have seen them from a few different sources.Phil Steele's rumored picks:MAC East 1. Bowling Green 2. Miami 3. Can't State 4-t. Buffalo 4-t. Temple 6-t Ohio 6-t Akron MAC West 1. Central Michigan 2. Western Michigan 3. Ball State 4. Northern Illinois 5. Toledo 6. Eastern MichiganAthlon's rumored picks:MAC East 1. Miami 2. Bowling Green 3. Buffalo 4. Can't State 5. Temple 6. Ohio 7. Akron MAC West 1. Central Michigan 2. Ball State 3. Western Michigan 4. Northern Illinois 5. Toledo 6. Eastern MichiganAthlon's rumored preseason rankings:62 – CMU 75 - BSU 82 - WMU 88 - MU 89 – BG 92 – UB 94 – Can't State 97 – NIU 101 – TU 103 – UT 110 – OU 112 – EMU 113 – UALindy's rumored picks:MAC East 1. Miami 2. Can't State 3. Bowling Green 4. Akron 5. Ohio 6. Temple 7. Buffalo MAC West 1. Central Michigan 2. Ball State 3. Toledo 4. Northern Illinois 5. Western Michigan 6. Eastern MichiganNeedless to say, if ANY of these predictions comes true, we will likely see a new head coach to open our new stadium. Sorry JD, but finishing 6th in the East last year was bad enough. Repeat that, and you're out of here.
  14. Bringing this thread back to the top on some new info: http://blog.mlive.com/fireupchips/2008/05/...to_14_team.html
  15. If I am correct, this video is added to throughout the season. Work begins on it immediately after they play the first game, and it grows from there. It is a sweet movie, and I am sure that the players love it even more than we do.It also would make a great recruiting tool.
  16. For what it's worth, I think that getting Cinci to come to the Rubber Bowl is a far bigger feat than getting Indiana to play in a brand new sold-out stadium.
  17. Cam 3 is back, but all you can really see is the giant dirt pile in front of it.
  18. UA to Expand its shuttle service by 9 bussesThis should help stop complaints about our non-existant parking problem.I really don't like the $115 per semester fee for all students, since I don't use the service. I have never spent more than 2 minutes looking before finding an open parking spot. This could really come in handy for football games when people have to park all over campus to get to the stadium.
  19. Jason Taylor, Zippy, and John Heisman all have good arguments.I wonder if they would accept LeBron as a candidate . Probably not.
  20. All the talk so far has been about joining a conference in all sports. I think the Big East may be looking for four football-only members, which would allow it to keep its current structure in basketball. If that happens, you might see Temple rejoin them and possibly a few schools from C-USA and the MAC. I think that we need to build a healthy rivalry with Temple in both football and basketball. If they move, it gives us a bit more leverage for moving up as well.
  21. The Cleveland TV market is ripe for the taking. NIU has Chicago's market as an incentive for other conferences, Temple has Philly, and Buffalo has their own city. Other than that, most MAC teams are in the middle of nowhere and thus unnactractive as a "market expansion" team for other conferences. If we moved to a BCS conference (not that that is very likely in the near future), you might see us eventually become Cleveland's college team, severely cutting into OSU's state market dominance.
  22. Memphis and ECu in "serious" talks with Big EastSo, here's my question: if we received an invitation, would you support Akron leaving the MAC to join C-USA?Without Memphis, it wouldn't really be worth it for basketball, and I can't see a real improvement in the quality of football, but it seems like it would boost our national perception. It seems like you have to belong to the C-USA to make the jump to the BCS, even if the MAC has a better quality. It is all about how the world views you.
