UA to demolish buildings south of Nash Street
ZachTheZip replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football
There's a flamewar because some guy thinks that we're demolishing properties that UA hasn't bought yet. -
http://www.ohio.com/news/top_stories/16736256.htmlJust watch out for the flamewar in the comments section.

Fans of both teams are pretty bad, if you ask me. There are some great Akron and Can't fans, and then there are the drunken assholes who you just want to hit in the face with a chrome bumper.I have noticed that the asshole-to-good-fan ratio is disproportionately high for both teams when you take into consideration other schools (Maybe once we get a bunch of fair-weather fans it will go down since they won't care enough to be jerks to opposing teams and fans). Can't fans have just had more opportunities to be jerks this year.

Looking at the differences in the numbers between this year and last year:This year we played 5 teams in the NCAA tourney, last year it was 4.This year our RPI is .5529 (Ranked #76), last year it was .5687 (Ranked #66)This year our SOS was .5082 (Ranked #135), last year it was .4894 (Ranked #177)I'm seeing a 40-spot improvement in the SOS department. This year our SOS was above the NCAA average, although not by much. Next year we don't play NC Central, NC A&T, or Binghamton. Replace those with a few solid mid-majors and we will have a pretty nice SOS, if you look at the numbers. This year our opponents' combined record (teams count for every time you play them, like the RPI does) is 515-491, and last year it was 462-508Our RPI could have been identical to last years with just one win over Can't State or Dayton, even with more losses on the record. What we need to do is play more teams that will compete well in their conferences, but not neccissarily teams that compete in the top conferences. Remember that the RPI is 50% based on your opponents' record, so play (and beat) teams that win more than they lose and you have an instant recipe for a high SOS.

Working on options for this now. VERY expensive to get directly into Tallahassee .. I'm looking into flying to Jacksonville or Pensacola and then driving in .. but I haven't been able to beat a $600 RT yet.I'll keep you posted.ZZZZip .. how are you planning it?ITS IN Tallahassee ?!!? IM GOING THERE TOMORROW MORNING AT 10 am for spring break...is this a dream? Any Rowdies going down!?!?! Fly into Jacksonville on Air Tran, its MUCH cheaper. You may be the luckiest ROWDIE in the world right now! You had better put this on the top of your list of Sping Break activities.

Tuesday at 9:00PM on ESPN Classic. Beats ESPNU, I guess.
-
A nice way to spend part of Spring Break for our guys. A trip to Florida and a chance to beat FSU.
-
Sounds like they didn't have much to say about this matchup. Probably afraid to bring up last year's snub.
-
Championship game, baby! Anybody notice that they didn't have a "Who's in and who's on the bubble' thing like last year? Think that was because of us? I wonder if ESPN decided to not do it after getting embarassed by wrongly predicting that we were in (not as bad as we were, though), or do you think the NCAA asked them not to do it because it might draw attention to a blatent snub when one of the "In for sure" teams goes missing...
-
Are you sure?Could it be against OSU? As a home game? Pretty Please?

NIT is from 9:00-9:30 tonight on ESPN 2.Here is the link tot he CBI, says that they will announce today, but no time posted.http://www.gazellegroup.com/cbi/index_main.htmProbably right after the NIT. I'm sure some teams are waiting to see whether they will get an NIT invite before accepting a trip to the CBI.
-
I would love to have a shot at them, and if we won that's instant respect from a whole boatload of people around here. I doubt theyt would have much of a homecourt advantage since most OSU fans only root for them if they are on top. I would make the trip.
-
The NIT won't take a MAC team if they don't have to, and it doesn't matter how good they are.The CBI is our only choice, and I doubt that UA will foot the $60,000 bill for a home game. We'll see what the deal is later tonight.

You want to talk about momentum? That falls on KD's coaching style. How many times has he pulled a player from the game after they do something to change the momentum? Darryl Roberts had a great sequence where he drew back-to-back fouls and got an and1. What does KD do? He puts him on the bench for McNeese.KD doesn't play the hot hand, he benches them before they get a chance to turn a game around. Sometimes one player can get hot and change the momentum of a game, but KD benches them as soon as it seems likely. It's happened all season, ever since McNeese went crazy on Miami. It's hard to build momentum when you're constantly swapping out players that are actually contributing in favor of guys that give you extended periods of nothing.

It's finally time to talk about next year, since there is little to no chance of getting a home game for the CBI/NIT. The CBI costs $60,000 to host a game, and the NIT probably won't take any MAC teams at all if they don't have to (they pick based on $$$ which is illegal for the NCAA, but's that's another story). We graduate 5 seniors, and next year's team will look completely different from the one we've gotten used to over the last three years. Who replaces them?Wood, Dials, Ced, Quade, and Goddard are all staples of this team in their own ways. Each one adds to the identity of this team. We will need to find five guys that can contribute that weren't playing on the team this year. We will have only two seniors, Linhart and Conyers, and I don't even know if Conyers will play much. We will need some underclassmen to step into a leadership role, and I am not sure who that would be.I won't say that next year will be a rebuilding year, just like I didn't say that this year would be one either. Judging by the talent that we are bring in, I will say that it is a reloading year, but I don't think we can make the MAC finals a third year in a row.The future is bright, but unfamiliar. I only wish it could've ended better the last two years for the group of seven guys that took this program out of the depths to where it is today.

Check the basement. All Akron down there.
-
I'll be there, and I plan on having no voice after tomorrow. It's do or die. There is no saving for tomorrow. Let it all out. From what I've seen, Can't has had a tougher time to get here than we did, but you know they'll be pumped up and we'll be pumped up too.IT"S GO TIME!!! :screwks: :screwks: :champs: :champs:

Revenge in the MAC championship against Miami is my biggest reason for wanting the Redhawks. I want to see them lose to us in the finals. I want to see Ced go off on them. I want to embarrass them on TV. After what happened last year and what they did to completely end our season, I can't believe that anybody would want anyhting less. So what if we would have a third chance to beat Can't? Screw Can't. The earlier they lose, the happier I'll be.

It works fine for me using Opera 9.25 and Java.Try going here for the browser plugin: http://java.com/en/download/index.jspThat should work.

Afterthe game today, Dambrot said that Humpty will be the best one-on-one player that we have ever had at UA. That's a huge compliment.
-
You may think he is an idiot now, but within a month something BIG is going to break which should change your mind (and this is a four-star Zipmeister/Wisconsin lock").The only things that would change my mind would be the announcement of a new team to balance the divisions and force Temple to bring basketball to the MAC, or getting into the BCS contract when it is re-written.
-
Only four players from Miami have scored any points. It's hard to win a game like that.
-
Go Rockets! It's waaaay to early to worry about the other side of the bracket. We still have to get through CMU tomorrow. It would be nice to stay and cheer on Toledo and it would be awesome to be there and see Can't fall in the quarterfinals.
-
I'll be there to help cheer the Zips on to victory and revenge. The AK-Rowdies will be ready for the few (if any) of CMU's "Rose Rowdies" that show up.
