Congressional Bowl and St. Petersburg bowls approvedThe MAC will be the backup for the Congressional bowl for both sides. That means that if both Navy and Army are ineligible, the MAC will play an ACC team, or if the ACC doesn't have a ninth bowl-eligible team (very likely), the MAC will play either Army/Navy or an at-large team.

Women's Basketball - 5 are leaving - Finally in Beacon
ZachTheZip replied to zipfan 81's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
A whole hell of a lot was left unsaid in that article. The incident that sparked this was what I would consider to be a borderline offense, and certainly would not warrant the type of reaction that we have witnessed. I'm guessing that it goes much deeper than the girls "breaking a few rules" at some house party or on spring break, as is usually the case with college athletes. Just look at the players reactions; they wanted to get out, and were waiting for an excuse. I also think that coach Kest was waiting for an excuse to get those girls off the team. She removed two players with bad attitudes, and the resulting fallout caused three more to leave on their own. I think this was in the making for quite a while.I wonder if the team will hold tryouts for walkons now. -
I don't think there was. I think the LeBron thing is that all our athletic teams will now have Nike LeBron gear in the near future.

Eight MAC Players to watch in upcoming NFL Draft

Yes! #114 overall. -
So, we finally btoke the ban on playing BCS teams? Or is the home-and-home policy still in effect, and we somehow finally managed to get those arrogant teams to come to the JAR? It could be a great sign if we can get teams like that to start coming here more often. Also, there are only two HUGE teams only a busride away that I can see coming to the Q that would be extremely exciting: OSU and Pitt. Or maybe Indiana as a stretch.Xavier would also be a possibility...Could be, but I just don't see us having to resort to playing the game at the Q for that.

There's more parking spots on campus than people realize. Every single day that I go to class, I drive by 6 different mostly empty lots. I never spend more than 30 seconds finding a spot to park in one of the lots. The parking is there, what causes the complaints is the fact that students might have to actually walk more than 100 feet to get from their car to the classroom.

Yep. Memorial Hall was the basketball arena before the JAR was built. It's primarily used as the physical education building now, and it is scheduled to be demolished some time within the next year and a half. It is almost completely surrounded by construction at the moment, and I can't see them hosting the championship game there. The seats are uncomfortable, there is no climate control, the scoreboard is on par with a high school one, and the capacity is about half of the JAR.

There's hardly a trace of Nash street left. It's almost continous from the fieldhouse to Exchange. The full stadium footprint is now ready for developement. All that's left to be removed are buildings that lie where the dorms and shops are to be put.

Well, there are two major business presences in Akron that could sponsor a new thing like Acme did in the past. Goodyear and Summa. Goodyear is reportedly on a rocky standing with UA at the moment but Summa just made a major donation towards the stadium and would be an ideal candidate. They employ massive amounts of people in the area and are apparently on pretty good terms with UA athletics since they got to name our football field after them.

Or even better, right on top of the Plasma Exchange. -

Looking at that, they would have to tear down the tennis courts and replace it with greenspace, which I think is in the plans that included the destruction of Carrol Hall. That part should be happening soon. The stands are due to be expanded, since right now the capacity is pretty low. I just hope that they leave room behind the goal for the Goal Patrol to continue harassing the opposing goalies. -
If Taylor leaves, I would be glad. I hate to see the most successful Zip ever play for the crappiest NFL team in the country.

AwesomeDude, take it easy.I didn't mean to disrespect anybody in the band. I know what you guys go through, and never intentionally put anybody down just because they are part of the band.I just meant to show that the official lyrics are a certain way, regardless of what people may choose to think it is. I just don't appreciate people coming into discussions with unsubstantiated claims like "UR WRONG" when all the easily obtainable evidence points to the correct answer. That goes for anything, not just Zips internet discussion boards.

Nope. It's officially "Akron true Gold and Blue." It's what is displayed when the lyrics are on the scoreboards at the JAR, and it's what is printed in the media guide. They changed it after the University changed their name. You band members are living twenty years in the past.http://www.gozips.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_...p;ATCLID=323404

The only way that Akron and Can't merge is if one school greatly surpasses the other in a large majority of areas. A much larger campus population, dominance in shared academic fields, huge differences in the amount of money raised, and a clear public perception of superiority. Right now that isn't the case, although UA is making strides at a much faster pace than Can't is. I can see it happening in a decade or two if UA continues to grow at it's current pace. The thing is, you can't have two main campuses. There has to be a clearly dominant campus or else you get confusion and division that will tear the university apart.

I wonder if this is the scholarship that opened up for our 5' 0" PG recruit. This gives a bit of substance to the rumors that are floating around. It seems like very few of the players really mesh with coach Kest's style. It also seems like we lose one of our top players every year to a rumored dismissal due to partying too much, followed by a transfer. This is a bad pattern that needs to stop soon, or we may see a new coach in a few years. You can't keep driving off your players like this.

Technically it's still there, only in giant-concrete-pile-of-rubble form.

JD is a fast learner. He took on a program that was in the gutter, and had to figure out a way to elevate it. He knew coming in that the only way to advance his career is to advance the program, but he didn't know wat he needed to do to get results. He's grown tremendously as a head coach since he came here, and I think he's beginning to grasp what needs to be done, but he has dug himself too deep a hole through his processes of trial and error. He needs results now.

That one sentence makes me wonder. Are there other scholarships opening up as well?Either way, I hope that this new recruit plays well. 5'4" is short even for a player on our women's team. -
I'm pretty sure that everything has been settled except for the Nemers' properties. The stadium footprint is all acquired; all that's left is the land for the dorms/shops on the corner of Exchange and Spicer.
