I was wondering why Tim was missing from my Computer Science class today...Get well soon, man.

WoW! :blink:Probably means NIU blows them out today ..CMU may still win. I just want an easy team so that we can be more rested for WMU/EMU. Hopefully EMU pulls off the upset.

#10 Ball State 30, #7 Eastern 26 - Updates
ZachTheZip replied to Marty McFly's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Now let's hope Eastern can beat up Western tomorrow. -
It would make us look better if we beat them.
-
The MAC itself made our schedule suck more than it could have. They forced us to drop Kentucky so they could have their weird schedule, and we have a bunch of non-televised weekday games. The last game in the RB is on a Thursday, which we wouldn't do if it was up to Akron. We play 3 MAC West teams but not Miami. Rick Chryst is an idiot. Since he's been here, the MAC has gone downhill and nothing makes sense.
-
GoZips.com has us @ EMU instead of @ WMU. That would make more sense.I don't really like having TWO AND A HALF WEEKS off before seeing Toledo and Buffalo at home. It's way too easy to get rusty.

http://mac-sports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?&am...;DB_OEM_ID=9400Our complete schedule according to them (Home games in bold, MAC games in italics):Saturday 8/30 - @ WisconsinSaturday 9/6 - @ SyracuseSaturday 9/13 - Ball StateSaturday 9/20 - @ Army (ESPN or ESPNU)Saturday 9/27 - CincinnatiSaturday 10/4 - @ Can't StateSaturday 10/11 - Bowling GreenSaturday 10/18 - @ Western MichiganSaturday 10/25 - bye weekWednesday 11/5 - Toledo (ESPN2 or ESPNU)Thursday 11/13 - Buffalo (ESPNU)Saturday 11/22 - @ OhioFriday 11/28 - @ TempleThat's 12 games. We don't play Miami, which is in violation of NCAA rules. We have to play every MAC East team in order to be allowed to participate in the Conference Championship. We also play Western on the road for back-to-back years.
-
We are a better team than we were when we played either of them before. I want NIU. There's no way they shoot 60+% again.
-
Our defense didn't lose the game, our going 1-21 from the field to start the game did. You always want a better defense, but if you can't make a single shot for ten minutes then you're going to lose.
-
I think that's actually a good idea. I want to start off the new era with a win.

http://www.ukathletics.com/index.php?s=&am...hange_well_id=2Looks like it's official. Anybody have any insight into this? Anybody in the know that can talk to the coaches?

According to this thread (need to login first, it's free): http://ukthunder.proboards98.com/index.cgi...mp;thread=15960, Akron "asked out of their game". I can't see us breaking the contract with the team that's supposed to be our new stadium home opener unless we got a much better opponent to replace them.

I think it's great, especially for in-game stuff. This can replace the in-game threads with real-time discussion. -
That was one guy, not the whole group.I was behind the sign and had no idea what it said, but I could immediately tell from the reaction of the Can't kids that the guy who made it goofed.

Posting this from the JAR. Both Rowdies sections were filled at 4:00. They were camped outside the student entrance since 11:00AM. This is going to be a good one

I think it had to do with the huge number of blowouts at home. It's hard to get into a game when your team is up by 20+ points. Some people were disillusioned after last year's debacle to end the season. Add in the fact that over 90% of the Rowdies are freshmen this year and you have a mix of disinterest and inexperience working against you. Look for it to be crazy tonight and during the tournament, though.
-
KD is a local guy, and local kids are what turned this team into what it is today. Dru and Romeo started it, Wood continues to raise the bar, and our recruits next year will keep doing the same. Plus, it sure saves money in the recruiting budget that we can focus on actual recruiting instead of travel expenses.
-
Winning the MAC would be a start.
-
Temple and Austin Peay have won. That makes two tournament-bound teams we've played. More hopefully to come.
-
There are 6 seniors, and no, He won't start five of them. It's Can't State and he will put out the best combination he thinks can win us the game.

It's championship week in Men's Basketball, and several of our opponents this year are making some statements. On the plus side:Winthrop just won the Big South tournament against UNC-Asheville to punch a ticket to the Big Dance.VCU beat Townsen in the CAA quarterfinals.Dayton beat Saint Joseph's to end their A-10 regular season. On the bad side:Binghamton lost to Vermont in the American East quarterfinals. Not done yet:Temple is winning at LaSalle.Austin Peay is winning against Tenn. State in the OVC championship game.Illinois-Chicago will play #12 Butler in the Horizon League semi-finals at 7:00 on ESPNU.

I gathered from a previous post that it's the coaches who feel the league is holding back the program. Maybe they feel they could recruit easier/better in a stronger league or grow attendance/revenue/donations. I didn't know a MAC school could just move one of its sports to another conference like that though...surely the league would have some say-so or could impose repercussions if they didn't approve(?)The MAC might be glad to dump Men's Soccer. Only half the league has a team, and that includes Hartwick. If Akron leaves, MAC soccer will die. It would be like Memphis leaving C-USA in basketball. It might be too much of a drain on their resources and they could re-focus the freed money and time into basketball or football. I think it's up to the individual schools as to what athletic teams they field, as long as they have football, basketball, and track, plus comply with Title IX.

If you couldn't get a ticket, the game will be on TV locally on FSN Ohio. They're also showing BGSU at Miami at noon. I fear that they will cut off the last part of the game in favor of Maryland/Virginia at 8:00. If that happens, we had better be sure to let them hear about it. Remember last year when the football game was cut short, during the most exciting point in the game, to show a freaking pre-game show for OSU? Let's hope the lesson has been learned.

You're right that what we are doing now is not working. It hasn't worked in the past, and it won't work for us unless we somhow move up to a better conference, and I can't see that happening for a while.Miami gave themselves a chance at an at-large bid by scheduling like an at-large team, but they did not win like one. They went .500 in non-conference games, and then went .500 in MAC games. That's not how to get an at-large. They don't deserve to play in any post season tournament with a record like that, no matter how tough their schedule was.I would always choose having a chance over no chance, but neither Akron nor Miami has any chance now. Only Can't State has a chance, and they got there by winning the games they were supposed to, and not losing too many games that they were supposed to win.No loss is helpful come tournament selection time. A loss is a loss. Akron would have a chance as well if they didn't lose to Portland State, NIU, and CMU. Not as great of a chance as Can't, but they would be in the discussion.Adding a couple of mid-level teams may not get it done, but it would give us a better chance than we have now. It all comes down to winning the games you're supposed to, and then also winning the games where it could be considered a toss-up. I hate to keep using Can't as an example, but that's what they did all season, until they screwed up against BGSU. They only played one killer game, at UNC, and the rest of their schedule was against solid mid-majors like Xavier, Illinois State, and George Mason. I think that Can't State would be better served with a win over another team like those than a loss to UNC. Their schedule, with the exception of UNC, is what I think ours should look like. The thing is, they also played cupcake teams like Longwood, Coppin State, Detroit, and IPFW. They just won the games that made the difference like St Mary's and George Mason, while we did not beat VCU, Dayton, and Winthrop.

Mollautt, Akron seems to have 5 OOC games this year. I think that we will likely have five East games and two West games. I can't see us having 6 East games and playing only one team from the West.
