There's a reason that man is where he is today. Way to be smarter than those rumormongers who will invent stuff just to have a story to cover!

And Can't State STILL SUCKS!
-
Here's my hope, if this does come true:UA will become NEOUCOM Akron, and CSU will become NEOUCOM Cleveland. If there are multiple campuses, one absolutely has to be a main campus. There cannot be two main campuses. Since UA is much larger, it would be the main undergrad and main research campus while CSU would be the smaller, more graduate and doctoral focused branch, with the exception of Engineering, Law, and other areas where UA excels over CSU. Athletics will remain seperate, like the university systems of Wisconsin and California where they are all technically one major university with multiple branches.Any other way would be wrong and will doom UA to failure. Write to your state reps and to Strickland and to Fingerhut telling them about this. Ask for responses and post them here. If it's not something that we like, I'll attempt to rally the students and faculty and we'll have a good old fashioned campus protest (no national guardsmen allowed ). I'm sure it'll be easy to get people to join the cause if we tell them that they would have to drive to Cleveland just to go to a class that we used to have here.

It's a terrible idea unless they decide to make CSU something like our current Wayne County Campus. UA is so much more of a true university than CSU with the exception of their medical program. I have a feeling that the idiots in Cleveland that have never seen what UA is like and have no idea about it's research programs will whine and complain until the "main" university is located in Cleveland. There's no way I'm moving there to finish my classes and graduate. I'll transfer somewhere else first.Anything located in Cleveland is bound to failure. It's a simple fact. Here are some statistics and facts to throw around when you e-mail Fingerhut and Strickland telling them to make CSU into a satellite campus for UA: The University of Akron is the public research university for Northern Ohio. It is the only public university in Ohio with a science and engineering program ranked in the top five nationally by U.S. News & World Report.UA offers more than 200 undergraduate degrees and over 100 postgraduate degrees. The university has the second-highest increase in enrollment among public universities statewide, according to figures released so far by individual schools with a 4.9 percent increase, that is double that of many colleges in the state university system. At UA, the main campus in downtown Akron and the Wayne College branch in Orrville reported 5.8 percent growth in incoming freshmen and 5 percent in graduate students, bringing total enrollment to 24,704.Now compare that to CSU: Four universities faltered in boosting enrollment, a state initiative as officials try to build the number of residents with college degrees. Bowling Green State University showed a decline of 2.5 percent, Cleveland State stayed just about even, Miami University grew a quarter of 1 percent and Can't State grew 1 percent.Cleveland State's total enrollment is at or near 10,000 which is less than half of UA.CSU offers 70 undergraduate degrees and 37 post-graduate degrees. We can't let Clevelanders take UA away and try to control this NEOUCOM thing, as they inevitably will attempt to do.

I forgot to tell you guys, the poster's dimensions will be around 200 feet long by 70 feet tall. It should be one of the biggest billboards in all of north-east Ohio except for the gigantic LeBron poster in Cleveland
-
Speaking of which, anybody hknow when they are planning on breaking ground for IC stadium? I thought it would be this month because of the very limited time frame we have to get this thing done.
-
Here's something to keep you all occupied until tomorrow when it rolls out. Can anyone guess what this gigantic poster will be? It will cover the entire east end of the fieldhouse (facing Can't State).

New K.e.n.t. Mascot Debuts Saturday?
ZachTheZip replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
HAHAHAHAHA!Very nice. I actually know several people at Can't State that have a face like that, just not green. -
So, who do we call to complain? Who is in charge? Who do we e-mail? It seems like everyone that works at UA that lets things like this go does so because nobody cares and they can get away with being lazy. Maybe nobody actually wants to take charge and thinks that someone else will do it, and if that's the case they should all be fired. I really want that CD, and I will obviously get one, but maybe WE should be the ones to push some responsibility on to the people who avoid it like the plague. This CD should be available in both bookstores and at the team shop and at the Rubber Bowl. But nothing will get done until we tell people to do the jobs their paid to do. Problem is, I haven't a clue who is supposed to be overseeing things like this. I doubt it is anyone in the band, more like someone from Promotions or Marketing or something like that.

What happened to GK? I heard that he is in Michigan earning his Doctorate, but that's just a rumor.
-
Thought I'd start it, even though I won't be able to update after this since I'm heading off to work.Jacq fumbles the ball to Indiana on the first drive. Almondo Sewell is injured. There goes our D-line.

I'll be at work, listening on the radio.

Vote for Zippy starting at 9:00 Am Monday
ZachTheZip replied to ZippyNeedsyourvote's topic in Akron Zips Football
Zippy over Cavman by 900. Keep it going.Current top 5 write-ins:1. Ohio St. U. - Brutus2. James Madison U. - Duke Dog3. Penn. State - Nittany Lion4. U. of Richmond - Spidey5. Can't St. U. - flushLooks like somebody's jealous. ;)That's good, because it means that we have tangible results to show that people in the area are hearing our advertising. -
Easy: Half of our schedule in any given year happens to be in Ohio. We play Can't, Miami, Ohio U, Bowling Green, and occasionally Toledo. Ohio State had to be nudged because for a while it was their explicit policy to not play in-state teams, and I believe that they still refuse to play on the road, but "neutral" sites are OK. I would love a law that forces all state schools in Ohio to play at least one road game at one other state school every three years. The MAC and Cincy are covered and so is YSU (I think), and that leaves just OSU.
-
Captain, I agree with you. Any sell-out home game is better than any road game. Period. I honestly think that every home game in 2009 will be a sell-out if the stadium is built on time. Why not have as many home games as possible? Some teams play 8 games at home every year. Why can't we do that one year? We're only playing 4 this year.
-
I was always under the impression that players currently on the team are forbidden to comment on sites like this. I have no idea if they can lurk, but who would want to if you can't post when we spend all day talking about you?

Now what are all the Browns fans gonna have to bitch about now? They'll all look like idiots if they chastize Quinn for playing like the rookie that he is. I bet they'll lay all the blame on the O-line again, but apparently that has nothing to do with how the QB and running game plays apparently, if you listen to all the Quinn=Jesus crap.

My point exactly 1990. Although a little out of the way, I was going to talk to them about making a hang out for the Oldies.I know we're just getting this club together, but one day I invision a lot of Alums getting together wearing gold and blue.Kinda hard to do at a place that makes decisions like that. Petty...short-sighted.The Winking Lizard incident is very sad and disappointing, especially when they host a weekly UA event with the coach. My feelings are Rockne's on Merriman. They support Zips football on the radio by buying commercials....they're centrally located...so far, so good. The last time I went there, they had a huge UA sports poster covering one of the walls. The owners support the Zips pretty well, although I don't know if they changed colors for yesterday, only to switch back today. I don't think they would, though. uakronkid...which place are you talking about? Rockne's on Merriman.
-
Western is vastly overrated this year. They've gotten blown out 2 games in a row. I honestly think that Akron is better than them this year. We'll see.

Can We See Some Of this Saturday?
ZachTheZip replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
Yes but what exactly does that have to do with Akron? Quite a lot. It seems like almost half of our team played high football school in Florida -
I think it was our line play that killed us on both sides of the ball. They just got worn down.
-
That's the game. OSU 20, Akron 2.I don't even want to think about our 3rd down conversion %.

On the front page of ESPN.

CJ gets a 1st down! Maybe we have a little life left?
