Great pickup for the Zips, saw him play once last year. He is a former high school teammate of current redshirt freshman tight-end Ryhne Ladrach. I wonder if the Zips will offer his teammate Sam Miller who is a DB/WR that has an offer from Louisville?

Got this blanket as a gift from the in-laws today. They took the picture from the Christmas card we sent them and the Walmart in Massillon had this nice Zips template blanket for the photo to go in. It isn't a heavy duty blanket, but I think it looks really nice (especially the two people in the picture).

My wife, as part of her honors project rewrote lyrics of Broadway songs to accounting (our majors) lyrics and sang them (she has a pretty good voice, especially compared to me). So I was thinking in the drive in to work today, that it would be pretty cool to take a song that most everyone knows and rewrite the lyrics to the 2009 Zips football team (similar to the "Mambo for the Tribe" from a few years back if anyone has heard of it). In talking with her she said she had some lyrics made up and also had a few songs and then would try to match them up with the correct syllables and rhyming and such.So my question to Zipsnation is what songs would you like rewritten about our Zips? My wife is more of a Broadway/country/oldies (not really an Avril Levine type) voice but she could do about anything if that helps out with song suggestions. After we select the song, we will create the lyrics (any input would be great) and maybe I'll post the final lyrics for everyone's input. We are planning in August to go to someone's house who has a makeshift recording studio in their basement (we've done it 4 or 5 other times for gifts to parents, Christmas CD's, etc.) and were going to add this to the list that she would sing. Then I can add it on Zipsnation before the first game for everyone. If it goes well, I can see a repeat for the basketball team later this fall.

Does anyone know when single game football tickets will go on sale? I'm trying to get a big group together (maybe 20) to go to the Indiana game (many of whom I am trying to convert to being a Zips fan). Also does anyone know what time the Indiana game will start? Bad planning on my part has a vacation coming back that day and need to know what time I need to make my flight to get to the game. I'm assuming it will be a noon start but wanted to see if anyone could confirm.

If anyone wants to watch him play in the Hiland summer league against some good competition you should go check it out. The high school team plays against a lot of guys who went on to play D2 and D3 college ball. Good experience for the sophomore to be.http://www.the-daily-record.com/news/article/4608820

Former Zip qualifies for the US Open (golf)
zippyfan34 replied to zippyfan34's topic in Other Sports
I forget if this is the same kid or not, but some kid who played for Akron and left a while back was being a pretty big douche. He was quoted in some newspaper saying how he loves OSU and Akron is below him. Sounds like a major tool to me. No thanks.Same douche. -
Former Zip (before he transferred to the school down south) Vaugn Snyder qualified for the US Open last week in Dayton. Also of note, former Zip Blake Sattler (currently plays on the Hooters tour) was one shot from qualifying and is the second alternate from that location.http://www.cantonrep.com/communities/canto...g-his-Open-shot

Yes - The Rumor Wheel Spin Landed on Houston

Plain Dealer article has him going.http://www.cleveland.com/sports/college/in...off_to_hou.html -
Maybe his former high school teammate Ladrach can convince him to spurn the BCS schools and come to Akron.http://www.the-daily-record.com/news/article/4574653

So will the rowdies show up in full force and heckle the Crew's goalie?
-
Not a big hockey fan but am at home rooting for the MAC's Redhawks. They just took a 2-1 lead with 7 minutes to go. Hoping they can hang on.

I take it back, Bardo is the man.
-
Great game so far. Gonzaga has gotten a few easy buckets because Bardo helps too easily on some of the plays. He needs to show only part way instead of coming full go to help out or double. Keep it up Zips.

Akron seeding in the NCAA Tournament
zippyfan34 replied to IBleedMACGreen's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I'm not finding any flights less than $575. That stinks, I wish we were the 14 seed going to Miami and getting a ticket for under $300 would be easy. I don't think I can swing over $1k for me and the Mrs. to make the trip to Oregon. -
Here is a story in the local paper of Smithville's loss to unstoppable Regina. In it they mention Smithville's Jenna Pew being recruited by Akron. She would be a freshman in Murphy's senior season and would be a nice complement to Bumgardner (sp?) down low.http://www.the-daily-record.com/news/article/4546695

One local kid that I would like to see the Zips look at and has great size is 6'6, 210 pound wide receiver Derek Orr from Smithville. His junior season he had 52 receptions for 798 yards and 12 TD's. Very solid numbers for a historically strong running program. I don't know how heavily he is being recruited, but he will probably be under the radar as he incurred an ACL injury at the begining of the basketball season. He is also a very solid basketball player, but I don't think D1 caliber, he will probably get some D2 and NAIA basketball offers. Of note the basketball team is coached by Mike Snowbarger who was an assistant at St. V's for 1 or 2 years under Dambrot and the team has not missed a beat without him going 20-0.Are there any other locals out there you think the Zips should look at?

I was wondering if the Horizon league wasn't allowed to webcast because of an agreement with ESPN. But I checked the other games going on right now and UIC is working and the Milwaukee game is "delayed" like ours.

NIU prediction and post game thread
zippyfan34 replied to zippyfan34's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Still plenty of time with 23 seconds left. With NIU being a subpar free throw shooting team, do you go for a quick 2 or a 3 to tie? I say quick 2. -

16 - 0 run for the zips. -
I'm predicting a Zips 59-52 victory. They struggle on offense for one more game but pull out another victory. Also the game is going to be on www.channelsurfing.net. I know this site only works part of the time, but this should work as my buddy from work is a Can't fan and he was able to watch it there. He also said it was a student production and the announcer didn't know his mic was on a lot of times and made some inappropriate comments. So that might provide for some extra entertainment.

Anyone else like the dance team's outfits? I wonder if the team shop will be selling those jersey's cause I'd love to get one for my wife to wear around the house if you know what I mean.

Interesting, looks like we are burning Mclanahan's redshirt. I wish he would have been playing all year or let him sit and get 4 full years out of him. Tied at 15 with 6 minutes in the first half. We are still struggling on O.

It looks like there are going to be 5 games televised. Both BG and Can't games along with the home game with Central. The BG away game this weekend is on ESPNU and the rest are on FSN. I guess that's good as I wasn't planning on making the trip to BG and so I'll get to see that game but the others I was planning on going anyways.http://www.ohio.com/news/break_news/37439769.html

It looks like we will be able to find a free webcast at the game here at www.channelsurfing.net.

Wayne/Holmes Counties Daily Record newspaper says the Akron recruit's back to back championship in the long jump was the #1 story in the area in 2008.http://www.the-daily-record.com/news/article/4497351Now a stupid question for everyone. How do I post a link that I can call it whatever I want instead of the "www." that I posted above?
