  1. Definately doesn't hurt to ask. Last year I sent an email to the sports editor at The Daily Record newspaper which covers primarily Wayne and Holmes counties. He was very nice and said that they don't have the staff to go cover alot of the college teams but he did end up getting a few of the AP stories from the College Cup to put in the paper which I don't think would have done if I didn't email him about it.
  2. I'm planning on making it to the send-off party tonight. What doors would be best to go in tonight? I'm trying to figure out where to park to not have to walk very far outside.
  3. Noisemakers and signs arent permitted because its an NCAA tournament. I would expect the rule to apply to all divisions of the NCAA. They are allowed at all other games since they are regular season games. Yes, the NCAA would hate to make soccer fun for the fans. Therefore all signs/noisemakers are banned. The College Cup allowed signs last year. I brought a decent sized one and was on TV a number of times.
  4. If I was going this yeat I would. We are expecting our first baby so the wife can't fly and I can't spend the extra $ when we have to get stuff for the baby. When I checked flights from Akron to SB on Thursday they had one leaving Thursday night and coming back Monday morning on Frontier for $290. Now it is $600 so that officially took me out of going.
  5. Yeah but they took out the ending part that had the last PK by Kofi! It was awesome! But that is really smart since it is very possible we could find ourselves in PK's once or twice next weekend. Usually most players tend to just specialize doing one thing with thier PK's (i.e. I think Nanchoff has gone to the same place evey time and last night it was stopped). You don't want to give the opposition any extra scouting. Speaking of which, UNC has gone to PK's a few times in the tournament, anyone know if there is any video of them?
  6. On the linesman leaving the game, here is a quote from Rasor's blog. OK. Here is the unofficial word about the referee. The head referee and the linesman were alleged to be arguing. The linesman marched off the field, taking his flag. The game was delayed while the impromptu lineman searched for a backup flag. I can't vouch for this being 100 percent accurate, but it's some version of the truth. Only in soccer. Halftime stats: Akron leads Cal in shots, nine to six, and shots on goal, five to two. Both teams have had four corner kicks. Cal has committed 11 fouls, compared to Akron's two. Update on the referee drama: Caleb Porter was arguing nonstop with the guy who eventually split. Before leaving, the linesman told the head referee that, "Either he [Porter] is leaving, or I'm leaving." As a result, the linesman has left Lee Jackson Field, and he took his flag with him.
  7. If you look at the Championship website on NCAA.com, an autograph session is listed after semifinal #1. Speaking of autographs, here is latest addition to our Akron Zips nursery. A signed soccer ball from this years team. Jealous! Me too! Where did you get it? Funny story, actually from a Can't grad. At work, this was one of the prizes in which they drew names of everyone who donated to United Way. I saw he had gotten selected for the soccer ball and since we play on a basketball team together and knowing he went to Can't, I told him it could be a shower gift for the baby. I would have paid him for it but he said I could have it. Now only if I could get a signed basketball, that would go great on the other stand I have.

  9. So does the Lynch firing at Indiana help with our recruiting? With them being a bottom level big 10 team we do go head to head with them for a number of recruits. Maybe Hoobler from Orrville will decide he made a mistake and transfer to Akron.
  10. We need to pack the place. Since it's Saturday, we won't be competing with the NFL and most college football is done. Invite people from work, neighbors, anyone. Let's get 5,000 in the "Jack".
  11. Who's everyone rooting for? Would you rather play Lolla in the championship or the Suckeyes? I want the Suckeyes because that would feel so much better saying we won the title against the "big" Ohio school.
  12. Let's see if they rule this fumble and incomplete pass as well.
  13. What is the referee thinking reversing that call?
  14. I could here what I am assuming was the Rowdies singing "Living on a Prayer" pretty well on t.v.
  15. Thanks for the laugh OZoner What? I'm starting to think OZoner is DaveinGreen's nephew.
  16. BTW: What's up with Scott Caldwell? Doesn't score a goal all year, and in three post season games he has three goals. Definitely not going to complain! Caldwell was just mad he was the only starter left off the All-MAC first and second teams so he is picking it up a notch.
  17. Minnesota beat North Carolina last night to go to 4-0. If they keep it up maybe they will be a top 25 team before we take them down.
  18. Good start 11 points on 4-5 shooting, 5 boards, 4 assists in 21 minutes in a victory. http://www.nba.com/dleague/games/20101119/...I/gameinfo.html
  19. I'm so glad we couldn't go tonight. We are looking like a high school team. Check that a JV team.
  20. Detroit is up 3 on Syracuse at halftime. I doubt that score will stick but that would help our out of conference schedule.
  21. Since the Cavs game is on FSO, the Dayton game was going to be joined in progress in the second half on cable but they are streaming the entire Akron game on their website for those who want to watch the entire thing. http://www.foxsportsohio.com/pages/live
  22. I'm guessing Milikin won't be playing the up and down style that JC tried to play. I say Zips 87 - Milikin - 44.
  23. Could be talking about national team (Congo, UK, or US)? http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/soun...s_on_natio.html
  24. source: http://www.ohiomm.com/blogs/zips/2010/11/a...rroll-liveblog/ More details on Nic. http://www.cleveland.com/sports/college/in...nting_on_f.html I love this guy. He knows what he wants including "making babies". Hopefully he can help the Zips win a MAC championship and a tourney run this year and then best of luck to him whenever he decides to go play in Europe.
