I have been saying that for the longest time. No offense to the band, but they should move up to the wooden bleachers where it says "band". They are taking up half of the student section on that end and they can be heard just fine if they were on the 2nd level...Isn't two half empty student sections way worse than one? If there are empty seats with the band taking up half of them what in the world makes you think they'll be full if we move? I'll call you out here. I came back for the Valpo game over break and got there a minute and a half after tip off and they weren't going to let me sit down behind the baskets even though there were about 5 students on one side and twenty on the other. Luckily one of the ushers recognized that I'm usually with the band and let me in but only after arguing with the folks up top for 5 minutes. Isn't that what cheerleaders are for? The student section starts all of their own cheers anyways. Where do Can't and Buffalo put their bands? How about at the Q for the tournament, where do they sit? You know where we were in Portland? Right behind the basket. We talk about bandwagon fans on this board a lot. 1300 students at a soccer game and lucky to get 50 at a basketball game? You blame the Rubber Bowl for the poor student turn out for football games and say more students will show up to games when the stadium is on campus. There were 15 students at the Eastern Michigan football game. Now you're saying they don't sit in the empty seats behind the baskets because the band is there?I've been dissapointed with the Rowdy turn out all year. Don't get me wrong, the ones who are there are excellent. My game isn't complete without the guy holding up the erroneous poster and screaming at the refs or the "I Believe" chant at the end of the game. The problem is the 1000+ who aren't there. I made the road trip to Buffalo with three other guys from the band and there were only two other Akron students there and it was a three day weekend. Where was everyone for the Can't basketball game this year? It's fifteen minutes away! I've made roadtrips to BG, Buffalo and evey Can't game without the band and am always amazed by the lack of student support. Be thankful you have a guaranteed thirty students or so there every game with the band so it doesn't look as bad for the school when the games are on tv and there are 30 more empty blue seats on the court.I used to be all for the band moving but i realized that you are right. You guys put alot into it lately. You dont just stand there, you get loud along with the rowdies and i salute you guys. Until the 90% of the Rowdies who never come to basketball games start showing up there is no reason to move the band. Once they do and students need those seats, of course, move the band back up where they should be. But right now it's not like anyone is trying to sit there considering there is plenty of room on the north side. However, maybe the band should move up for the Can't game because we all know the Twice a Year's will be in full force taking up seats for that one.I understand where you're coming from for the Can't game, but I respectfully disagree. I've been at every game for two years and I would much rather sit under the basket for the biggest game of the year then up top. I'm one of the one's cheering just as loud as everyone else and don't really feel like I should have to give up my seat for one of the twice a years who obviously couldn't care less about the game.Quit the band.RootforRoo I was hoping for once we could have a civil discussion without you going off on one of your band attacks. Oh well...Besides, if I quit I don't get free tickets to go to the Q or Portland and root on my team.Take the time you spend with band, work a job, and pay for it yourself. I'm not being uncivil. It's not like people are saying "get rid of the band", they just want them moved. And when the time comes where those seats are needed, you should be moved. I have been to every home game except one in the last 7 years and a good deal more over the 10 years prior. I dont get priority seating and i dont expect it. You shouldnt expect to get to sit down there either, same as you shouldnt expect to get TWO/THREE seats down there for yourself. You find a way to take up 1 seat per person in the band then fine.I'm with rootforroo! Nothing against the band or it's members, I tend to support them most of the time. But most of them don't cheer, so that argument doesn't really work. I actually hear fairly often that students don't like to sit by the band. Not saying I believe this, it's just what I have heard over the past years. We are just suggesting a move, not getting rid of the band completely, so there's no need to freak out. Just trying to find ways to improve the game experience

Would that be the game that Ryan Miller of the Buffalo Sabres shut down Canada? So who from the Akron NHL club was there? I wouldn't try to talk about "akron" sports man...we got a guy named lebron, that's just an argument you can't match hahalol Well there are some people in Buffalo Named Lebron, but I suppose you mean you have a famous athlete from Akron... I guess all we have to fall back on is Orel Hershiser...Well you can always turn to Mr. Exclusive Buffalo's own Bruce Almighty?...and of course Chris and Brett's brother....Brian McKnightWhich is always some good music if you want to get ur girl "in the mood" hahaha

the baller knows Dambrot and said that he was scared to play Larry Saunders again. French is wrong I guess? Am I in your head? It certainly sounds like it. I said no such thing. I said that he said in the post-game presser that he wants to play us in 2 years. He did. I also said I wouldn't want to play Larry Sanders again either, not that Dambrot said it. "I know Dambrot is desperately trying to get the return game postponed to 2011-2012 when our whole starting line basically graduates."You said it and if I remember correctly you followed that statement with a ..I actually talked to Chaka Khan coach of VCU last night and he said that he filled up his schedule next year because he was afraid of playing the Zips again.

Food for thought. Zips fans said the same thing 3 seasons ago when we were coming to the JAR. Based on what I saw, the team we beat then with Jeremiah Wood, Nick Dials, and Cedrick Middleton was significantly better than the team I saw out there tonight. I remember a freshman Larry Sanders coming into the JAR and setting an all-time record in your building with 9 blocks in that game. Of course we are a different team from back then too, but with new weapons. At the same time, VCU has now beaten Akron 3 straight seasons and is 5-0 all-time in the series. At some point there should be a level of respect given to VCU. If Larry Sanders doesn't leave for the NBA this year, I think we have a very good shot at winning at the JAR next year. I wasn't particularly impressed with the talent on the Zips squad, but you have a team that works hard and maximizes what they get out of what they have. They really scrap it out and work hard. That kind of work ethic is something you can build on. Shaka recruited the McKnight brothers, Darryl Roberts and Mike Bardo for the Zips before he left Akron. In contrast we had a recruit from California at the the game to watch our two teams face off who is 6'11, 225 pounds and has a number of BCS offers. It's just easier to recruit when you have basketball tradition (9 NCAA appearances, 5 wins) and recent success (beating Duke in the 2007 NCAA's, losing by 1 with a shot to win against UCLA in last year's NCAA, Eric Maynor being a first round NBA draft pick, Larry Sanders being slated as a lottery pick etc). I could easily say that how is Akron so good if they lost to Eastern Michigan? Every team has bad games. You could say that Akron had a bad game, but it becomes more than coincidence when you lose repeatedly to the same team year after year. At some point you just have to give props to the better team. I like the Zips program a lot and Dambrot is a solid coach who cares about his players, but Akron is still not at the level of VCU as a program. I think they will get there, but it's not the case right now.I dont see VCU being that impressive from any of the 3 times i've seen them now. ALL three times it was a case of being outcoached and outhustled, sure i'll respect that but i wont say that VCU was a better team a few years ago. Maybe this year and last year but not by much, Akron should have played them better if not beat them yesterday and i expected both.I think that's a fair statement. VCU probably wasn't all that impressive. Only thing is, they were more impressive than Akron and that's all that counts. 3 games, 3 wins, the last one in a blowout. VCU returns everybody of consequence next year. I know Dambrot is desperately trying to get the return game postponed to 2011-2012 when our whole starting line basically graduates. In the event that this happens, you should have a good shot knocking off a young, rebuilding team at home. We'll see. You guys are 0-3 now and have said the same thing before and after every game....Ya you never trash talk. How do you know Dambrot is trying to postpone the game? Do you know him personally...if so thats great. Maybe you have some more inside information about Akron you can fill us in on. You obviously know more than us.

haha thats hilarious. I've been noticing the past few games how ironic the cheers the rowdies do really are. "he can't make a layup" and "airball" can be said fairly often when cheering for our own team. Seriously on my 6th grade basketball team if I ever missed a layup I would be benched in a heartbeat, and an airball on a FOUL SHOT?! even shaq hits the rim. It's just the fundamentals of basketball this team does not understand. Don't take shots when you aren't open, if you're a forward you shouldn't be shooting 3's, make layups, control the ball, and make dang free throws! Seriously I've always backed KD but if this keeps up we may be able to find a local YMCA rec league coach that can teach this stuff

to be honest the game really doesn't matter. If it were a MAC game I would be mad, but really the only reason I wanted a win is a dislike for VCU
-
ya every time i uploaded it looked fine and fit perfectly I'm not sure why that looks like that

I downloaded it too...it is safeI love at the end when he tries to explain Can't's "simple" play. But he can't even do that
-
We need to get this video more views...if this could become famous it would be the ultimate slap in the face to Can't. Imagine seeing this video on Letterman or something. Could be the next which was also the product of a MAC school

Amazingly he hasn't said anything stupid in a while. This is true Ozoner has kinda taken his place as our annoying Bobkitten troll
-
Miami hasn't made a 3 all game...I can see them hitting their only 3 for the win at the buzzer, just our luck
-
Why does Bardo keep getting shots blocked? seriously someone that tall keeps getting blocked and dunked on????? WHY
-
Ozoner predicted cooper would score 100 pts in this game...only "if he was taller"

Zeke Closing in on D1 Top 10 Block Percentage
vmd9 replied to Dave in Green's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Same with Brett McKnight. If he were 6' 11", he'd be at UCLA. No Majors even offered the kid...the only schools that offered him were Can't, Ohio, Wichita state, and Loyola. ESPN gave him an amazing 87...yeah I'd say if he was an inch taller he would have gotten 100! I actually heard Kentucky was going to offer him but gave up because he was just too good and Calipari didn't feel he could get him...lot's of people use the word "if" it means nothing. I would have been a QB for USC "if" i could throw better, "if" i was good at football, and "if" I was taller...means nothingZeke > Cooper -

vmd9 replied to Dave in Green's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Do bracketbuster and playoff games count in the stats? If so, I think he could break the top 10 and better.Yep, they all count for a season. We have five regular season games left, hopefully 3 in the MAC tourney and at least one in a post season tourney. Zeke is at 45 blocks right now (too bad they don't seem to count all of his ) and the season record is 65 by Romeo Travis. If we get that many games, he has an outside shot at it. That would tie him with Quade Milum for #7 (with 121 games played compared with 26 for Zeke).I think with stats like that some people on here should stop talking so much about that Cooper guy from Ohio, and remember we have an extremely talented freshman on our Zips. Maybe he hasn't had a 30pt game but I'm sure Cooper isn't anywhere near the top in the nation in any stats...Stop saying "how did Ohio get Cooper" who is a 3-star recruit btw and remember we have a 4-star recruit playing some good basketball -
Yes we got lucky they traveled, but we deserved to win that game we led for most of it...just had some poor play calling and shot choices at the end
-
that's true I see piece of crap teams on STO all the time...and A10 games with 10 people in the crowd on CBS sports every weekend
-
hey it took us 2 timeouts to draw up that play!!! haha if KD took a 3rd timeout brett would have made that shot
-
I think winning would help too
