I think Akron Fans would go nuts for hockey. When we build the new arena they need to make sure that it can be used for hockey too. Think about it there aren't any major hockey teams in the state of Ohio, aside from the Bluejackets and Lake Erie Monsters. Which I'm pretty sure no one cares about either of those teams. That gives us a pretty good market...and I come from Erie, PA the home of a small Mercyhurst College. They started their hockey teams in the 90's and have seen a great deal of success. Their women's team is ranked in the top 5 just about every year and men have been to the tourney several times...only a few games away from the frozen four. That being said if small schools of under 5,000 can support hockey teams, I don't see why we can't.

According to the Summit County Recorder's office, the parcel on the NE corner of Exchange and Spicer transferred to UA Trustees on 18 Dec 2009. Perfect site for a real on-campus, multi-purpose, "Screw You Mayor, First Energy, University of Akron Arena. He and his "Joe Akrons" can call it a downtown arena just like they call everything north of North Canton, "Downtown". Why bury it against the highway? They are probably planning to get the remainder of land between the campus and rt. 8 by eminent domain. They are just avoiding headaches by acquiring the land prior to a new business being constructed. The arena would look much better standing on the site of the plasma center anyway. As much as I want the plasma center moved...wouldn't that be one small a$$ arena if built there? haha It's kinda a small building

I'd rather see A10 vs MAC...I just the they are more respectable than the Horizon and although we don't have nationally ranked teams in the MAC we would match up well

you know what, for some reason the marketing department doesn't realize we have graphic design majors here at UA. When I look at T-Shirts and stuff being produced I feel that they could be a lot better. For example the t-shirts for the AK-Rowdies, Roo Zoo, and stuff should be designed by students. At schools like Tennessee and Penn State they have students submit drawings and ideas. The top 5 or so are voted on by the students and the winner is produced. To me the rowdies shirts haven't been anything special the past few years. My favorites were the gold, they seemed to be the most unique and a cheering section of all gold is pretty sweet.

I heard at the beginning of this season a few players were threatening to transfer...wouldn't really mind that now (that is as long as their last name isn't Marshall or Hitchens) but some of the bench warmers wouldn't be missed too bad Any names in particular? I feel bad for the guy but Swiech shouldn't be on scholarship, he hasn't had any real playing time in any games.

The more I think about it maybe I misunderstood sites that predict LeFever going to Cleveland. I actually remembered that the Cleveland Gladiators are still around. He would do very well for them! He could be the next Maurice Clarett of the Arena league. Good luck Lefever if the AFL doesn't work out you can always try the UFL or something...

I don't think we have any room for him next year...I heard we only had 2 scholarships and 3 players coming in. He'd have to walk on or something so I wouldn't see that happening

I hope you're wrong about Jakarr. I want him to come here. HAHA I do too, it's not going to happen though. If we would have made the tourney our chances may have been better. But we choked and a kid coming out of high school wants to be in the tourney and I don't mean the CBI...

Well his hometown is Mount Pleasant, so I'm hoping thats the only reason he's even considering them. I just don't see why anyone as talented as him would want to go there...this is most likely just a Jakarr Sampson situation. A kid just getting an offer from a hometown school, without really any chance of going there, at least I hope thats all it is

Cleveland vs Pittsburgh is like Can't vs AkronWe don't like each other and you have to be biased when talking about them. I don't care if their buildings were made of gold I would still call them a trashy city. Just like we make fun of Can't being hippies, stoners, etc...Cleveland is better than Pittsburgh and Akron is better than Can't. I have to trash a rival any chance I can! haha
