EA of the PD writes a little on the Akron Marshall game. Keith Dambrot said the biggest challenge right now with the Zips is building team chemistry. That aside, the game should offer a stiff challenge for Akron's defense as Marshall is averaging 84.2 points a game. The Zips inside muscle will have to flex as well, considering the Herd is one of the best rebounding teams in the nation, averaging 39.4 boards per game.

Incase anybody was wondering if the game would get canceled because of weather, the answer is no (per ticket office). Marshall is in town.

The last time we were favored at home by 10, we pounded Detroit by 19. Anybody that has lost total faith in the Zips can get almost 6:1 odds for Marshall tonight. Another Zips home game, another winter weather advisory for Summit county. Amazingly accurate. Step it up boys!!! :gun:

If you look back on page 15 of this thread I provided a link where Todd McShay has him going #3 overall (on Dec 18th). If he goes higher than that, I will be a tad surprised. Rob Rang writes that Bortles revealed some flaws last night, and his stats are misleading. Have I mentioned recently how much I miss UCF being in the MAC?

That team is VERY thin at RB, could use some depth. I'll agree that Bell continues to get better each week for a runner that has a high center of gravity.

Still love Storm Johnson, hope he has a lousy combine and my nfl team drafts him.

I remember at the half, the thought crossed my mind to pull him. This game was indicative of his season IMO, he had a rough time going through any progressions. I'm not sure he threw one ball passed 5 yards (maybe one) the first half...first read. His good passes were timing plays down the sideline. He threw great timing passes to LT Smith (why did we not continue this throughout the season). Hopefully he works hard this offseason and knows the playbook inside and out. The more comfortable a QB becomes with the playbook, the more he knows where receivers will be, and he'll find the open one...even if it's not the first one he looks at. Wish the season started tomorrow...when is the last time a Zips fan wrote that in an offseason. I often wonder if our W/L record would have been different than just one if we pulled this game off.

I can't speak for "we", but I think SC is a team that lost to Manhattan and USC Upstate, and got lucky to play an unmotivated Zips team twice, and a bad Marshall team. I don't follow rankings, but I can't believe they are a top 68 team. If the staff can figure out how to get the Zips to play to their potential, we might see SC again in another tournament. Wouldn't that be a hoot?

Marshall and Akron will have something in common when they play this Thursday. When tickets went on sale this year, I bought these as a xmas gift...and not a white elephant exchange.

Knee jerk? Posters on here have been questioning KD's substitutions for a decade. That's not knee jerk. BTW, I'm pretty sure it's not "teaching", KD has a history of using a longer bench than others. Marshall, whom Akron plays Thursday, is playing South Carolina today at 7 pm if Zip fans are up for some scouting.

I would like someone that "knows" X's and O's explain to me why SC can run simple pick and rolls, and base line screens and get excellent looks at the hoop, but we can't. We spread the floor and stand around, when that doesn't work, we dribble out of control into the lane and kick it out no matter what..thus all the turnovers. This is Div I offense? I continue to be baffled by the lack of offensive game planning. Even the announcers question why one teams players without the ball cut to the hoop, and one team (Akron) doesn't.

Not picking on you, but what does that mean? A lot is going to have to change for that to happen this year.

For me it's always hard to pick an individual in a team sport. WAY to many variables. I think Zeke was the player that fit KD's system best. Is that considered the "Best KD-Era Player?" I think Tree has the potential to be the most talented player. If he played at a few other schools in the mac I won't mention, I think he would have better stats, which fans seem to put emphasis on. Skip makes a good point about Romeo. To me, there is no clear cut "winner", but it's a fun topic with some entertaining answers that I enjoyed reading. IMO nobody is wrong, so far.

We beat up on cupcakes, and upset nobody. The Mac has been bad to mediocre for a decade now. Some fans are happy with that, some are not. If this was Columbus, would their fans be happy with that? I don't even think Bobcat fans would be. This talk happens every year at this time, then we beat up on some MAC cupcakes and the talk goes away. Hopefully the MAC can elevate to the status of a two bid conference like we used to be, and we will get a more accurate evaluation of how this staff competes. "Top" mid major? I'm not sure, or care, what a top mid major is, but here are your rankings.

Ankles sprains are all different. Nobody would have played/walked on mine. Pohl was rushing designed plays on a football field, I couldn't put my toe on the ground. Sometimes it's just a pain tolerance issue (obviously KP's case), sometimes it's physically impossible. Keep us up to date on how the surgery goes, we are all interested. My favorite part of GT's article: But very well in the offseason we may challenge our receivers: ‘You know what if we’re playing three wideouts in a formation, we want the top three to play every snap except the one or two snaps [others] get and show me who needs to be No. 1.’ That’s one thing you need to do, establish No. 1 go-to guy. I heard this before the season, and still wondered if it held true. Good to hear.

Personally I haven't heard of surgery on a sprained ankle before. I have had a grade 3 ankle sprain that required crutches, I was out of sports for 6 months. PS Nice article GT.
