Only 10 days until our next basketball game!!
Dr Z replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
George It’s just an exhibition game, but fans will likely see which changes, if any, coach Keith Dambrot made to his lineup. The Zips guard play hasn’t been up to snuff in their first three games this year. Point guard Nyles Evans started against MTSU, Carmelo Betancourt the prior two games…The Zips are 5-0 in these exhibitions against Malone PS Who do we blame for this schedule?...Please save me the "nobody wants to play the Zips" line. PSS Is the Zips home basketball schedule more accurate at predicting snow storms than the farmers almanac? -
If we can celebrate wins over a bunch of crappy mac basketball teams, why can't we do the same with crappy mac football teams? The answer to your question is, both. Akron football fans can be hopeful for next season. Beating Toledo would go a long way in the offseason. Columbus State losing by more than four to UM would be an even bigger boost for this Zips fan. Unfortunately, I think Akron had a better chance of beating UM, than UM has of beating CS. Agreed. I'm in!

App State 2016 & 2017 Appalachian State University football has secured a third home-and-home series versus an NCAA Division I FBS opponent with an agreement to play Akron in 2016 and ‘17, the schools announced on Monday. Appalachian State will travel to Akron’s InfoCision Stadium on Sept. 24, 2016 with the Zips making a return trip to Kidd Brewer Stadium on Sept. 16, 2017.

UFL Hartford Colonials, EMU, whats the difference? A 71 year old, who thinks the game hasn't change much from 1974?!?! At least the Zips will sell one more ticket (Elvis) when EMU comes to Info.

I believe one of the Browns recent successful plays is adaptable to the Zips offense. The Browns use it to get Gordon one on one quickly down the sideline, I think this plays goes to Fransohn Bickley in the Zips offense. Once again, I think this takes advantage of one of KP16 strengths (accurate sideline pass). PS If your watching the Cle\Pit game today, watch for it. The Steelers will not defend this the way it is drawn up here, but not the point. 112413 Gun twins left strong right Z wheel (Bickley would be #12)

If you bet a taco through KDs career at Akron OOC ATS you would not be hungry.

I'm pretty sure thats why they invented the saying "even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in awhile"?

Sorry, yes, anytime a foot touches a ball. I'm in the middle of creating a firmware update for popular DVRs to take care of this automatically. I'm going to market with it spring of next year. My programmer is having an issue when a ball is fumbled and somebody accidentally kicks it.
-
Try this one time. DVR a football game, NFL, college, doesn't matter. Wait an hour and a half after the game starts. Start watching game. Fast forward through commercials, kick offs, punts, field goals and instant replays. Your in for a nice two hours of football!

Darrell Green suggests an easy rule change. The rule change would cut down on dangerous, concussion-causing hits. He suggested rules that stipulate safeties line up much closer to the line of scrimmage and cornerbacks must play man-to-man defense. Read more here

Could have been an informing/entertaining show, but Zips Live is CANCELLED tonight. Bill Morgan will speak with head basketball coaches Keith Dambrot and Jodi Kest in the next installment on Thursday, Dec. 5, from 7-8 p.m. at Johnny J's Pub and Grille in the Valley.

Len Paul brings Tree back written by GT There’s a reason to believe he might be a reason this situation is soon resolved. He arrived at the same time as Zips great Len Paul. Paul has served as a mentor to Zips players and Treadwell in particular for more than two years. When asked if he brought Paul in to have a heart-to-heart with Treadwell, Dambrot wouldn’t comment.

Tree is back per EA The drama seems to be over with Treadwell. He returned to practice Thursday after missing a day, leading to speculation the 6-7, 235-pound Euclid High product was looking to leave the program.

As mentioned here by DIG I thought this deserved it's own thread. USA Today FOX Sports Ohio University of Akron football head coach Terry Bowden has received a two-year contract extension, President Dr. Luis M. Proenza announced on Thursday. The extension, which is pending approval by the UA Board of Trustees, will keep Bowden at the helm of the program through the 2018 season. "I couldn't be more pleased with the progress we've made," Bowden said. "I'm proud of the dedication of the players and staff, who have never given up and are starting to see the rewards of their hard work. This contract extension is a product of their efforts and I appreciate the continued dedication the University has made to Zips Football. That dedication of resources was apparent when I interviewed for this position and helps with every aspect of our program."

Moving in the right direction. Winning record should be the goal now. Akron's success? I'm in the minority, I will take the better teams in the MAC on our schedule. I want to beat the best, it makes you a better team at the end of the season. Beating up on crummy teams this season was nice, gives the kids some confidence. Next year, we should be passed that phase in the program. To be the best, you have to beat the best. A team this year that comes one play from Michigan is going to complain about playing BG, Toledo, NIU...please. On top of that, playing crummy MAC teams is not entertaining to me. I like the Pitt, PSU, OSU, Tenn, Mich games. Especially since Bowden is here. I understand we have to play a MAC schedule, and some teams aren't good, but I don't have to like it. Most? Hmmmm, I would say coaching staff. I'm not sure how long you had in mind writing "sustainable", I'll just answer with, Coach said he's not looking to move on, so all I can do is take him at his word. He has a pretty good track record.

I'm a little surprised that it went as I suspected, especially the over/under. Akron can compete at home against the team that played last night.

"Back the Zips" Taking On New Meaning Now
Dr Z replied to UAZip0510's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I hope Tree does whats best for Tree, whatever that is. I love watching him play, but don't pretend to know what has been said or done to him to cause his actions. Like Elton wrote, this could be a hiccup, or a major domino. So far, he has missed a practice, I'm not getting overly excited. Good luck Tree. -

I'm going to pass on any advice Benedict Saban has to offer.

I'm guessing Tree needs some time right now. For whatever reason if he doesn't find his way back to the court, I like him at tight end at 235lbs. Line him up in the slot, no safety can get a high thrown ball away from him, and few linebackers could cover his seventeen yard sprint. That position seems to translate well between the two sports. I always thought he looked like a TE.
