  1. On the other hand, the Zips finished the season with an RPI of 60 out of 344 D-I teams, which ranks them in the 83rd percentile. Again assuming that 50th percentile is about average, and that the Zips were worse than 59 teams and better than 283, some will say the Zips are above average (or good) and some will say much above average (or very good).
All that got them was a seat on the couch to watch 68 teams play in one of the most exciting tournaments in sports.

Knowing their goals at the beginning of the season, I'm sure the staff, and team would trade those "above average stats" to play in that tournament.

I know most Zips fans would. Stats Shmats, I want to win a game in the tourney now!!! It's time. No excuses.

I'm hoping Pat can help them achieve that goal....sooner rather than later.

  2. Whiskey and Craft Beer makes it sounds like it's going to be more like Lizardville in Rocky River (which is a good thing)
If the Whiskey "bar" is anything like the Peninsula Lizard, don't get too excited. I've seen better selections at college parties.

Delilah's in Chicago has the best Whiskey bar I have been to. Stanley's Kitchen is another good one.

  3. Has anyone seen Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution? He gets Huntington WV to get behind healthy food initiatives and in 2010, before the initiative, they were the most unhealthy city in the U.S.! He helped to change the lives of a lot of people whose lives were actually at risk because of the unhealthy condition their everyday diet put them in. People did not know that what they were eating was basically poison to them over time. Jamie's Food Revolution Huntington has now set a good example and I think everyone can learn from that.
I've never heard of him before, but watched the first episode on hulu at lunch today. The most unhealthy town is Marshall fans. ;-)
  4. The Linebackers I'm actually surprised we're as high as #10 here.
This is one group I'll be paying close attention to when I'm at the games. This is supposed to be Chuck's signature position. I'll be watching...

The Zips have experience in the area, with expected starts in OLBs Justin March (36 tackles) and Jamar Williams (38 tackles), and MLB Troy Gilmer (71 tackles). The key will be whether or not new defensive coordinator Chuck Amato can maximize their talents.

  5. People need to be educated about food and dietary decisions and there is no better place than during their university years. I have summer classes in West Hall and the only quick "healthy" food option I have on campus is subway in the student union. Subway is ok and all, but that's really not good enough. If the options on campus are healthy and tasty, I don't see why there should be any problem. Food can taste good and be good for you at the same time.
    Nice post ZFP.

From one of my favorite new (for me) websites, here is an article on How to Eat Healthy At Chipotle

  6. Bud Shaw making some points.

Anything that debunks the myth of Joe Paterno is fine by me. Tearing the statue down for instance. But the NCAA's decision to revise the one thing we know he was -- a good football coach -- doesn't make sense. He's still the winningest coach in Div. I history in my book. That was fact, not fiction.

I'm paraphrasing something I heard on the radio the other day. "I think they should have left the JoPa statue up, but added a phone in his hand like he was calling the police on Sandusky. Then it could have represented what he should have done." --Howard Stern

  7. That had me curious as well. Apparently, Jawon has a history of number changing since he wore both #3 and #11 in high school. In fact, take a look at this web site. It shows current Zip DB Anthony Holmes (#7, interestingly) pitching the ball to Jawon (#3).
Nice research. My first thought was because #44 was more of a "power back" number, and #7 seems to be a...um, not sure how to describe his new running style in this offense? Scat back? Nah, that's not right, but you know what I mean. Or the single digit makes him look smaller and faster/more conditioned? CK is right, damn you Frenchy, now I'm wondering...
