  1. Andy Baskin makes his point

I have trouble listening to NCAA President Mark Emmert spit out of both sides of his mouth. You can't impose a $60 million fine on Penn State, and then expect people to respect the NCAA, when you are selling off the new Division I National Championship Game to the highest bidder.

This story is not about the NCAA's ego. Does it really matter that the NCAA stripped away Joe Paterno's wins from 1998-to-2011?

It's a joke. This story should be about helping victims. Now, it's about the NCAA flexing, saying “Look at us. We are so powerful that we wiped Paterno's records off the face of the earth.” Does stripping Paterno's wins make the pains of the victims go away?

The NCAA, once again, made this story about money and power. The victims are, once again, in the background.

  2. ...will continue his college basketball career with the Zips, but must sit out the 2012-13 season under NCAA Division I transfer rules.

...was granted a medical hardship waiver by the Big East for a fifth season of eligibility at WV. That status will not transfer with him to the Zips.

...will be paying for his studies during his initial season at Akron...prime candidate to be back on scholarship in the fall of 2013 with the Zips.

...had offers from many other universities, but this decision really wasn’t about basketball

VERY informative coming from a Medina newspaper, beating Akron's best to to the punch.

  3. According to two separate emails I have received, season ticket holders are supposed to be able to score two free away tickets to the CMU game.

In both instances the link has taken me to a OWA server sign in??? Anybody figure this out?

PS There is also going to be a football lunch Aug 24th. Details to follow...

  4. Personally, I will be shocked in eight years to read that he is no longer in the league and flat broke.
No one should be shocked about any NFL player being broke. 78% of NFL players go bankrupt or nearly broke just two years into retirement (according to SI).

I think the Rams are actually trying to help Janoris out by safeguarding his contract. I'm sure his agent will do whats best for his agent.

  5. Somebody that wants the punishment to have some sort of positive effect. Nick Saban

Ray Rotto's proposal: Keep the football program and have it fight for something more noble than the Leaders Division of the Big 10 Conference. Make it a standing advertisement for what went wrong, and how it can be made right. Make the money a tool, rather than its own reward. Make Penn State stand for rebirth rather than degeneration.

  6. Ram's are looking for "safeguards" with his contract. The Rams want the signing bonus split over four seasons to protect themselves "against Jenkins not panning out."

A Rams source said the team has even offered to give Jenkins interest on money as it's paid. The team simply wants a safeguard and believes it will get it.

"Do you really think the kid is going to go back in the draft over this?" the source said. "After all he has been through? Look, we want to pay him and we want to pay him fairly. We're not trying to cut the money way down or anything like that. We just want to keep him focused and this seems like a good way to do it."

  7. Zips Select Tyler Wilson

The NCAA announces the schools have passed emergency legislation to restore competitive balance to college football's uppermost division. Every scholarship player currently enrolled will be immediately placed in a one-time-only redistribution draft. Schools will choose players until each has restocked its roster. The order will be based on Jeff Sagarin's computer rankings from the 2011 season -- worst to first.
