Teams do one of three things through the season...get better, bet worse, or stay the same. Sometimes you can blame it on injuries, sometimes you can't. After watching the VCU game, and the Oral Roberts game, I'm cautiously lowering my expectations. We are not rising up for the out of conference big games. That doesn't bode well for my NCAA tourney hopes. I am still hoping for a Columbus State match up in round two though, I'm just not betting on it.

Best game Nic has played in more than a month. Aggressive play in the paint and hustle down the floor. He passed up on multiple open threes, so I'm guessing that KD's open criticism seem to work. The next thing I would tell him is quit thinking, and react. When he dribbles more than twice in the half court...well let's just say that when he lets the game come to him, good things happen for the Zips. I hope he continues the rest of his Zips career like he did today.

Staff needs to prepare the team better. Too often we are behind early, make good half time adjustments, and wear the other team down late. Today, shots didn't fall late. We need to start better to become a better team.

Shades of the VCU game...coulda, shoulda woulda. Team is not ready for the big time yet. OR was well prepared for the game. They did the hard work to win the game, congrats to them.

I haven't seen Morrison or OR play, so I don't have an opinion if this is right or wrong. I usually stick to "find what a team does best, and find a way to stop it." If I had to guess from previous KD defended games, I would guess he tries to stop Morrison the first half and adjusts at halftime. It will be fun (or maddening) to see how it works out though.

Let's hope it works. I think his minutes will become critical come tourney time. Getting back to "his role" might just be the difference between the Zips being great or just good. Let's see how he responds to KD's open criticism tomorrow. I want to see a worm-like performance.

I heard Steve say Wymer once. He also mentioned Charlie was upset at the amount of times the Zips were at the line (26 to 12). Depends on which side of the fence your on. PS Thank you to the official or officials that T'ed up the Hawks late in the game!

I was read an article in Cleveland Magazine about two years ago. The gist of the article was that Pittsburgh banks (as opossed to CLE) recognized the mortgage problem quicker than anybody and were in less trouble than most cities during the recession. They predicted a quicker future growth. Guess they were right (according to JZ link).

Flicking around last night (awesome sports night), I run across The Viking Basketball Report. Great set, good graphics, HD....come on Akron, you can do something at least on par with a Horizon league show.

You bring up a good point, but I think KD has done a good job thus far. Some changes could still come. Our bench is really awesome, and the strength of our team seems to be wearing the other team down late in the game with "fresher" players. I like how KD refers to his team as "The Nine Starters." Stay tuned...

It would be interesting if the Zips met Columbus State in the NCAA tournament. Do you think LBJ would root for KD and the Zips? BTW, I want that match up! (not in the first round though)

That's why he got the Steve French's MVP of the game. Well deserved. He should play more down the stretch when we have tougher games, he needs to take some minutes away from somebody.
