Rivals.com named him a "top recruiter" in 2011. How can we go wrong with a top recruiter?!? Anybody ever speak with Matt? No video of him speaking on youtube. I am really lost to who "I think" YouTube will hire. I can't predict the guy. One thing I know, the hire will say a lot about his situation.

One Year Extension

Another possibility may be since YouTube failed so bad last time, this time he is getting so much input from others (Tressel, Johnson, and others named by various news articles) it will take a long time to get through everyone's opinion/suggestion. YouTube sent me nice (mass) email this morning assuring me that he will "secure a terrific coach." So I'm not worried. I like what GP1 typed earlier, "Fire fast, hire slow." Who interviewed Ianello for a head coaching job before Akron did, who interviewed Brookhart for a head coaching job before Akron did? Who is interviewing Winters? I would say if we hire somebody that was considered for a HC job, YouTube is taking a step.

I think if I list my qualifications for the job, "we" would have to overpay the employee. Will that happen? I'm afraid the reason that the Akron Zips football program ends up with a HC with a less than stellar resume, is the job at hand is not attractive to a coach with a resume that most of us would like to see. If we find a coach with a resume that is appealing to the fan that is looking for a big hire, it is going to come with some bumps in it. Maybe we have to wait until all the "attractive" jobs are filled, and find the diamond in the rough that got passed over. I would love to hear what JT is suggesting. I would give it a about 2:1 odds that we end up with Winters. I'm not saying eventually that it wouldn't be a good thing though. It doesn't overly excite me, but I would be there to check it out. My first thought is that it is hard to get coaches out west to come east to the crummy weather. But he coached with the Browns and Ravens before.
