  1. I think if I list my qualifications for the job, "we" would have to overpay the employee. Will that happen? I'm afraid the reason that the Akron Zips football program ends up with a HC with a less than stellar resume, is the job at hand is not attractive to a coach with a resume that most of us would like to see. If we find a coach with a resume that is appealing to the fan that is looking for a big hire, it is going to come with some bumps in it. Maybe we have to wait until all the "attractive" jobs are filled, and find the diamond in the rough that got passed over. I would love to hear what JT is suggesting. I would give it a about 2:1 odds that we end up with Winters. I'm not saying eventually that it wouldn't be a good thing though. It doesn't overly excite me, but I would be there to check it out. From FootballScoop: We hear J.D. Brookhart will get a good look at Colorado State. Instant Offense for GP1: Adam Schefter tweeted that Mike Martz is not expected to return to Chicago when his contract expires at the end of this season. He added "colleges could be in play". Honestly, we haven't heard of an administration seriously considering him. More on Mike. I would trust Mike's QB decision. Mike Haywood would fit a lot of ZN members qualifications!?!? Tulane has interviewed him.
  2. It's not amazing how a good QB makes a coaches winning record better. For the opposite effect, see Rob and his decision this year.
  3. My first thought is that it is hard to get coaches out west to come east to the crummy weather. But he coached with the Browns and Ravens before.
  4. I wish he would give consideration, but according to footballscoop, he was contacted and only wishes to give his input and stay on the west coast. Can't say I blame him with his resume.
  5. Might want to check here on Sunday.
  6. Coach Arians is suggesting Randy Fichtner a Cleveland native for the Memphis job in today's Post Gazette.
  7. Add Winters, put it in Ken+ with the Ken+ schedule under it with the Akron game highlighted. Good idea.
  8. You and U of A need to get out of the 80's with your marketing. Plenty of firms can create a great campaign for minimal cost. I'm not laying out a plan here for free, but it has been done successfully PLENTY of times with a lot worse product (believe it or not).
  9. If he did it at Liberty, I would agree. Winters may end up here, but I would not use the word "perfect" to describe him. A perfect candidate will win and create a buzz locally that will put butts in the seat immediately. How many potential Akron fans are going to get excited to read that "Akron has just hired Paul Winters, who previously coached at Wayne State"? I would guess that more than three quarters of the potential fans that Dr P would like to see in the Info have no idea who Winters is, or that Wayne State even exists. If you told me I had to hire Paul Winters, I would put together a massive marketing campaign around the idea that "Akron is Bringing one of it's own home" I would put his face everywhere. But judging by the history of our football marketing (excluding Waddell who got it), it won't happen.
  10. I agree. Wouldn't be my choice, but his resume would suggest that Akron HC could be a possibility. After watching this video, he sounds like someone familiar. Rocco made $228,253 in base salary in the 2007 fiscal year
  11. Uh no. Spielman was the coach of the Columbus Destroyers, an Arena Football League team, in 2005. He coached one season, compiling a 2-15 record.
  12. Mike isn't coming to Akron to be an OC! What do you think the next job is for this guys resume? Akron head football coach? Oregon State Beavers (1997–1998) (Wide receivers coach) Oregon State Beavers (1999) (Quarterbacks coach) San Diego Chargers (2000–2001) (Quarterbacks coach) Atlanta Falcons (2002) (Wide receivers coach) Atlanta Falcons (2003–2005) (Quarterbacks coach) Baltimore Ravens (2006–2007) (Wide receivers coach) San Francisco 49ers (2009–2010) (Quarterbacks coach) San Francisco 49ers (2010) (Offensive Coordinator) UCLA Bruins (2011-Present) (Offensive Coordinator) I would love to see it happen, but if that's my resume, I'm not touching this job with a ten foot poll.
  13. Anyone catch Stevie Johnson this weekend?
  14. Not much we didn't already know. Q: Do you have to pay out 100%? A: We are still working with the legal people. Q: This was your first hire, how hard is it for you to fail? A: I knew coach Ianello before I hired him, it's not about me, it's about student athletes.
  15. If I were Mike, I would pass on this job, doesn't fit his resume. This would be a nice job for Joe or Paul. Can Akron get both Joe & Paul? I would be interested in hearing what DC either could/would hire. Would Paul just bring his DC from D-II? (He has MAC ties) For future reference:
  16. Yes. Sea of idiocracy.
  17. He said the same thing before the JD hiring. He said the same thing before the Rob hiring. Shocking he would pick the "little engine that could"!?!? He could care less about Akron football when he wrote for the AKRON Beacon Journal. He wrote 5 times as many articles about Mount Union. I could care less what he says. Even if Paul is the correct man for the job, Terry can go take a long walk off a...
  18. It sure would be nice to see him have some success here, he has been through the ringer.
  19. Conference splits bowl money, not team. It actually cost us to go to a bowl. Many other mistakes too long to list.
  20. Any coach with the last name not starting with an "I" and ending with "ello" will have my butt in a seat next year.
  21. Let's assume since this is in the football forum, and the subject of the thread is about the next football coach, we are speaking of football.
  22. You mean Twitter
  23. The next coach to leave Akron by choice, will be the first (in my life).
  24. Congratulations!
  25. I always believed that there were too many things working against the situation for both parties to agree. I believe I wrote "I would be SHOCKED" if it was able to be worked out.
