Alex Allen played awesome yesterday, making players miss, breaking tackles, running downhill. The overall package. I'm thrilled he has come back 100 percent from his injury (gawd I hope I didn't jinx him) Did anybody notice the blitz pickup on the first TD? I bet the offensive coaches do.CJ needs to keep the ball on running plays 2 or three more times a game.Receiving corp played great yesterday, I don't remember a dropped ball. Bowser was everything that we were told he was, maybe more. The dude knows how to get open and he has great hands. He is powerful after the run, and I saw him blocking well on a couple of our wide receiver screens. Maybe I'm not used to this much talent on a team for this to be possible, but is JD the king of moving players positions?I loved Andre Jones game yesterday. Dashan Miller also had a nice game. Bruce is going to get tagged Wes Welker on this board enoughin the next two years, so I won't do it anymore, kids tough.I have never been so confident that we are going to get good field position on kickoffs.Do you ever remember the draw play working so well for the Zips?? That seems to be DK's specialty. Do you realize we were 8/9 at one time on third down conversions? Do you EVER remember a Zips offense being that productive? That's a sign of the QB playing well.I think for the first time yesterday, the offensive game calling actually surprised the defense (even though they were pathetic).CJ's audible on the 3 and 3 to the fly pattern on the iso WR was awesome, too bad he over threw him. I saw the O look toward the sidelines a few times yesterday, it actually worked once, still don't like it. Kudos to the offensive coaching staff, well done. The announcers were excellent yesterday. I only mention this because the Wisc announcers were HORRIBLE. Cuse announcerswere well prepared for the opponent. They knew names and told you who did what from our team. Very professional job.I wouldn't mind hearing them announce bigger games that I watch.Syracuse is not known for their hot cheerleaders!?!I'm saving my Jacquemain comments for later this week. I'll just say WOW. He played a B+ or A- game yesterday.I'd say we are seeing the result of some hard work this summer. I say, thank you CJ.Did anybody catch the interview JD game in between halves? I have two questions. One, who was the "kid with no helmet on that was noton the field for the td" and two, what defensive half time adjustments is he talking about?Did anybody kidnap Arthur Jones from Syracuse so we can put him on our d line?Looking over a lot of my notes yesterday I have a lot of bad things written down about the defense (duh), but I don't feel like ranting on the defense this morning. I'm going to enjoy this victory all week long. I'll keep it general and short on the D....PLEASE ditch the 3-3-5.I don't think we have the players to run this crummy scheme. I'll be shocked if getting two DL healthy "fixes" everything. We need safety help. We need three guys like 34 Paul Chiara, the safety for the Cuse, that dude knows how to come to the LOSand tackle people. We don't have that, so missing size KILLS us on the run. I'm hoping that this is not as evident when we get intoMAC play, but I fear it is.That missed FG yesterday could have been the turning point in the game. Nice job not letting it be.I think for the first time, I root for a football team that I want to receive the kickoff. It is to our advantage to get the ball first.Going down and scoring that TD on the opening drive was HUGE. The team looked VERY sharp on that drive. I don't want to put our defense out on the field first this year.Kudos to JD. Is beating a BCS team (even a terrible one) a big deal anymore? I can remember reading some post that read we should just consider the first two weeks like practice and not get hurt? I think more people from the Badgers & Cuse wereinjured than Akron players. Seems like our team is in shape. The tape from yesterday should be shown in defensive classrooms as an example of how not to tackle.I think Syracuse, was worse than the Zips (exclude #97 & #34 from cuse). It's hard to evaluate an offensive line from watching a game on tv. I'll just say that CJ had time to throw the ball most of the timeand the RB's were making big runs. The line MUST be playing well.I'm pumped up to go to the Rubber Bowl Saturday (did I just type that) !!!

It's hard to recruit good DBs, we should change our D to the 5-3-3. PS Aren't two of these DB's supposed to be playing close to the the LOS if the D suspects run (but not the FS)?Nice linky zff.

This is from Dan Kadar's live blog from the game(2:24) Brookhart needs to really decide if Tyler Campbell should be getting this much playing time on the defense. It seems like he’s been on the bad end of a lot of plays. Here is a photo of such a play.Let's hope he gets it together this weekend. I'll have my eye on him next weekend, it's tough to get a fair judgment from tv.

Nice list.My comment on #1, I don't remember CJ having such a quick release, he must have REALLY worked on this. Hope it continues. My comment on #7, unofficially (because I lost my notes), I think 5 different rushers went for 7+ yard gains 17 times. My comment on #9, what a different attack that was in comparison. My comment on #10, man I hope this continues. The other thing I would like to see stop is the RB moving from left to right or right to left just before the snap of the ball. Stop all the motion until we stop false starting every third play. The only team we are confusing is our own.

I never bought into these kind of excuses in sports...if we had better WR, then the QB would be good.If the OL was good, then our RB would be better...and so forth. If you are good at your position, you will shine. I understand that football is a team sport. Take for example just this week, as bad as the defense was, I can still pick out a defensive player that played great.Dwight Smith played for some pretty pathetic defenses and played some pretty awesome games. One doesn't always have to do with the other. Getting back to the "note to JD" topic. My note would read like this:Dear JD (and Jim Fleming) make a halftime defensive adjustment. Thank you, Dr Z.

Why would you want to play LB in a 3-3-5? I bet if we played the 3-4 he would be dying to play LB.If my goal was to play in the NFL, I would be very hesitant to play for a team that plays the 3-3-5 if I wasn't a DB.

Great news. While we are on the radio subject. I complained about this last year and nothing has changed this year.Could somebody in Akron marketing figure out how to get some of our games on Sirius/XM?Other MAC schools have figured it out.I know this is asking a lot since we can't even get a billboard on route 8, but K*ENT can.

This is from Rivals last year, but gives some insight on his ability:Evridge started at Kansas State and then transferred after Ron Prince succeeded Bill Snyder as coach. He sat out the 2006 season per NCAA transfer rules and still has two years of eligibility remaining. He proved himself in 2005 when he started six games for the Wildcats. Evridge set a couple of school freshman records, including six touchdown passes in a game. He also threw for 1,365 yards on the season and rushed for 138 yards and two touchdowns against Nebraska. He passed for 357 yards against Texas A&M, which remains the ninth-best single-game passing total in Kansas State history.

Elton Alexander goes out on a limb1. There will be four bowl-eligible teams to come from a mix of these seven schools: Central Michigan, Ball State, Miami, Temple, Western Michigan, Bowling Green, Can't State. In a college football world where .500 is bowl-eligible, all seven of those teams could make that mark. Temple should have no nonconference trouble, with Army on the road and a rematch in Philly against Connecticut, which stole a win in their game last season. Go .500 in the MAC and the make-or-break game likely will be at Navy on Nov. 1.2. Central Michigan quarterback Dan LeFevour will earn some mention in the national Heisman Trophy discussion. LeFevour will get an early shot at national attention with a Sept. 6 game at Georgia. CMU also plays Sept. 20 at Purdue, a team against which he already has played twice in his career and posted 656 yards passing and six touchdowns. Despite the string of outstanding MAC quarterbacks, none ever has finished higher than fifth in the Heisman voting.3. There will be no shortage of offensive fireworks from MAC teams this season. Every team returns a quarterback with some starting experience. Five MAC teams averaged more than 30 points per game last season.4. Don't be surprised to see a MAC team -- Central Michigan or Ball State -- creep into the Top 25. The upset is on the tee for Western Michigan at Nebraska on Saturday. The Broncos have been on the edge of several major upsets in recent seasons. WMU's offense under seasoned junior quarterback Tim Hiller should be able to hold its own against the Cornhuskers. The other early upset to watch for is Miami at home against rebuilding Vanderbilt on Thursday. Miami should have one of the top three defenses in the MAC. And CMU at No. 1 Georgia on Sept. 6 certainly has some intrigue.5. For the first time in MAC history, both Akron and Can't State will have winning seasons. Akron gets a break in the schedule by not playing Miami this season. Can't hosts Akron this season for the Wagon Wheel on Oct. 4.

Nice article. I like "Jack's" confidence. I hope it translates on the field.

Okay I did a quick excel chart to represent our defensive numbers last year. The red line represents our averages. 29 points given up per game. & 409 yards per game. The first half of the season we were under our average 3 times and over our average 3 times in points against. The second half of the season we were under our average 3 times and over our average 3 times in points against. The first half of the season we were under our average 3 times and over our average 3 times in points against. The second half of the season we were under our average 4 times and over our average ONLY 2 times in yards against. While I hate the 3-3-5. I'm not sure I see a whole lot of truth to that statement. Just cause you print something in the PD doesn't make it true.I know this is only one year and he used the word "history", but I took the most recent history due to time.
