Eight MAC Players to watch in upcoming NFL Draft
Dr Z replied to MACReport's topic in Akron Zips Football
John Greco - OT/OG - Toledo6-4, 303Projection: Rounds 2-4Comments: Greco graded out highly in the NFL combine and some scouts and services have him ranked as the number one player available at his position. Played tackle at Toledo but is considered a better prospect as a guard. Expected to become a starter in the NFL in short order. Scouts are especially enamored with his quickness and mobility.Jason Jones - DE - Eastern Michigan6-5, 275Projection: Rounds 3-4 Comments: Jones made significant strides to boost his stock with an impressive performance at the Senior Bowl and then only helped himself further with a strong showing at the NFL combine. Considered to be among the top ten prospects at defensive end, most scouts expect Jones to become a starter in the NFL and is a strong edge rusher with impressive lateral pursuit speed.Jack Williams - CB - Can't State5-9, 177Projection: Rounds 3-5Comments: Despite concerns about his lack of size, Williams has caught the eyes of scouts with his speed and tenacity. Considered a ferocious hitter and has the speed to provide downfield coverage. Timed at 4.32 in the 40-yard dash, Williams is also seen as special teams player handling kickoffs in the NFL.Kory Lichtensteiger - C - Bowling Green6-2, 297Projection: Rounds 4-5Comments: Considered a top five prospect at center, with some having Lichtensteiger rated as high as number three, the former four-year starter at Bowling Green has impressed scouts with his ability to block in both rushing and passing situations. Had a very strong showing in the Senior Bowl, holding his own or better against strong competition. Most see him becoming a starter by his second year.Trevor Scott - DE - Buffalo6-5, 256Projection: Rounds 5-6Comments: Scott did not receive an invitation to the NFL Combine but put on a clinic on his pro day and significantly boosted his prospects. Converted to defensive end in his senior season at Buffalo after playing at tight end, Scott could also be converted to linebacker thanks to his speed and lateral movement. He was especially impressive in the linebacker drills and one scout sees him as potential starter at LB in a 3-4 defense.Nate Robinson - DT - Akron6-3, 305Projection: Rounds 6-7Comments: Robinson is seen as a bit of an enigma by the scouts we chatted up. He has the size and skill set to become a steady contributor but his work ethic has been questioned. Has solid strength and can hold his own on bocks. His upside could land him in the draft but it may be a struggle to stay on an NFL roster.Jamey Richard - C - Buffalo6-5, 295Projection: Rounds 6-7Comments: Richard, like his Bulls teammate Trevor Scott, opened the eyes of scouts at his pro day. Already invited to the NFL Combine, Richard blew scouts away with significant improvements in his NFL Combine test results and is now ranked in the top ten by most NFL scouts at his position in the upcoming draft.Kris Kasparek - OT - Akron6-5, 265Projection: Round 7Comments: This one surprised us. Kasperek was a tight end at Akron but is being groomed as a tackle. Scouts like his size and, not surprisingly, has good hands. Was a good blocking tight end in college and has good instincts, knowing how to take good angles. Would be a project but could land on an NFL roster as a late rounder. There are several other MAC players that are on the radar who could be late round picks, but will more likely land as undrafted free agents, including a pair of punters in Ball State's Chris Miller and Brett Kern from Toledo as well as wide receiver Jabari Arthur from Akron and tight end Chris Hopkins of Toledo. Both Miller and Kern finished 2007 among the nation's leaders in punting but since the NFL went to a seven-round draft punters and placekickers have typically found their way onto NFL rosters via the undrafted free agent route.Akron's Arthur was drafted by the Canadian Football League in 2007 prior to his senior season. -
The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported that according to two NFL executives, the Dolphins are trying to land another first-round pick in order to secure a player they're concerned won't be on the board when they lead off the second round with the No. 32 pick overall. And the Palm Beach Post reported that Taylor, who is still competing on ABC's "Dancing With The Stars," has quietly requested a trade and understands he could be on the move if the team can make the right deal.

For a million dollars??? I think they should march down to Sully's Tool Rental and drive some bobcats back.

Come on man, Brian Wood used to have some awesome one on one battles with B Hip in practice for years. -
3-3-5 = 4(-1)-2(+1)-5Mac math.

Thanks for the update. If he can play D, that will give him a chance to come in and contribute right away.

My guess is no. Sounds like lip service. Pitt run the other style spring game, JD knew that and that's what he went with (at the time).Am I the only one that doesn't like having the spring game in doors? I wish it were outside. To be honest, I would rather have it at the Rubber Bowl.I know, it's a dump, but you can sit higher so you can see better, you get to spread out and I remember attending many sun filled spring games.Plus you can tailgate. Don't get me wrong, the in door facility is beautiful, I just don't like watching a spring game there. I seem to come home witha better feel for the players talent when the game was at the Rubber Bowl. PS On the complaint scale, this is a 2 out of 10.

Did Anyone Play Cornerback or Safety?
Dr Z replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
I'm looking forward seeing Rodgers play in the spring game.I think moving Jones to WR might be a great move. Seems like he is getting open early catching 9 in the scrimmage. -
Good read. Sounds like the perfect player in 3-4. Should help with our defense too.#92 huh? Reminds me of Michael Dean Perry and his McDonald's burger, the MDP."I'm so hungry, I can eat 92 of them" (I wish I could provide an image of Michael holding the MDP to go with this)

Could LeBron play for the Zips....or could he play for....
-
Anyway they can get an Akron cap on LeBron, I am all for. Biggest missed marketing opportunity in the history of Akron sports. If I were running Akron marketing, I would higher one person to work 40 hours a week to make this happen.

Keep us updated twinkle toes If they ever ask Jason a question, his answer should always be "because I fear the roo, and so should you"I remember Jason stating that he wanted to be in movies. Anybody think that if he is a success on this show, he might be ready to retire sooner than later. Now a whole bunch of house wives know his name and who he is, his movie demand might be a little higher now.story for Z-P

Probably thinking "hmmmm MAC is not getting two teams in next year either"
-
:screwks:Has a team ever just not come out for the second half?
-
I think to this point they've only hit 2 of them.We were 1 for 12 from three point land in the first half of our second game. 3-23 overall.
-
I notice UNLV is making their shots from behind the 3 point line too. That seems to help.
-
Hope you didn't take out a second mortgage betting on that pick !?!? Rock Chalk Jayhawk
-
This one would be nice some day.
-
Is it possible to retire someones jersey before they play for the team?
-
Nice find Hill.Hope he can D as well, from a 2 minute video, I'm not seeing stellar D.
