  1. I really hope my source is right, it would be the best possible scenario for the Zips.

Since Zips fans don't have much experience with bowl games, and how the selection process works, I would love to see an article written about it. The article should begin on Monday and continue through the week until the Zips know the official announcement on Sunday. It would have all the rumors and inner workings of how the offer came about in the piece. There were so many projections, I'm sure at the time it seemed possible, then something changed, and another scenario falls into place. This might require some research and work, but I think it could be informative, and create more interest for the bowl game. Oh well, maybe next year.

  2. Congratulations to the players, coach Bowden, coach Amato and the rest of the staff. Way to turn around a season, finish strong, and get your team to a bowl game to get us the extra practices. I always heard it was fifteen, but this site reads different. Now I wish our matchup was later. No matter, this experience will be invaluable to the continual growth of the progrum.

While the location and time don't work out in my favor for attending, I like the matchup. Click here to read a nice overview of the Aggies.

Utah State’s defense continues to be its calling card. During the 2015 season, the Aggie defense ranks among the top 40 in the nation in seven different statistical categories, including seventh in fumble recoveries (12), ninth in three-and-outs forced (5.10 pg), 13th in passing defense (180.4 ypg), 20th in defensive touchdowns (3), 23rd in total defense (336.7 ypg), 26th in first downs allowed (17.7 pg) and 28th in opponent third down conversions (.341).

Offensively, Utah State is led by one of the top wide receivers in the Mountain West in senior Hunter Sharp. Sharp is a second-team all-MW honoree, and ranks first in the MW and 27th in the nation in receiving touchdowns with eight (0.8 pg), tied for second in the MW and tied for 29th in the nation in receptions with 60 (6.0 pg) and fourth in the MW and 46th in the nation in receiving with an average of 74.6 yards per game.

This will be the second talented WR named Sharp (spelled different) we faced this year. Hope the results are the same.

  3. Sure a bowl game is great, but getting blown out will suck.

Give me the best opponent. I'll take Oklahoma again. This time we can play them with our starting QB. tenerife-forum-wink-smiley.gif I'll even take Ohio State (or any other B10 team), just don't give us BG.

  4. Akron would probably be a 14 point dog at Boise, but I think this would be an interesting invite. They have a true freshman QB and a strong running game, which plays into our strength.

I would love to play Boise. I don't like the date or location, but I would still take it. If you told me at the beginning of the season that we would play Boise in a bowl game, I would jump for joy. I love talking about what bowl we think the Zips will get. if this happens and anyone is in the south Florida area, I'll be watching the game here with my Zips jersey on.

  5. I like the numbers alright, but I don't care for the letters. I have noticed in a lot of UA signage that the kerning is very uneven with letters. Once you see it, then it sticks out like a sore thumb.

Which AKRON spacing do you like better, Daumantas 93 on the left, or Isaiah 56 on the right?

BTW, you can download the font here if your interested.

  6. Focus in bowl Payout !! And future recruiting opportunities !!!! Top two bowl priorities for the program and may be interchanged. Stop being selfish ....... TEAM ! Hahahaha

Doesn't all of this money go to the conference, not to the team playing in the game? Pretty sure the conference splits it equally between all teams.

  7. Congrats to Jatavis! Well deserved. I feel like we may have had at least one snub on the All-MAC teams, however. Feel like anyone of Marcus, Pittman, Coe, or Scott could have been on there. Yet our friends over in Can't had 3 1st team selections on defense..

The real reward is an NFL contract. Nobody gets "snubbed" there, if you have talent, the NFL will find you. Remember what Jawon Chisholm said last year about how many pro scouts show up to Akron pro days now that coach Bowden is here? I'm looking forward to the Zips pro day this year.

  8. The solid blue uni's we wore against Buffalo were great. Blue helmet, jersey & pants. My favorite of the year. I also like our solid white look on the road. The white kangaroo helmet we wore against Can't was pretty sweet too. (IMHO would have looked better with white pants.) I love the Z logo on anything. Basically, I love the uniform combos we've got going right now. Very cool. Honestly some of my favorite uniforms in college football & I'm not just saying that because I'm a Zips fan.

I agree. I thought the equipment team did a great job "mixing" our look all year. They have their own twitter handle @ZipsEquipment. They gave a shout out to Healy Awards for getting the decals ready this week. I forgot to take a photo Friday, darn it, but they posted one.

  9. Western Michigan, Middle Tennessee to meet in Bahamas Bowl

On Saturday night, Middle Tennessee announced it was accepting a bid to the Bahamas Bowl. Western Michigan is expected to receive a bid in the coming days.

For what its worth, Bryan Fischer of Bleacher Report has us in the Cure Bowl in Orlando. That game is Dec 19th at 7 pm.

For anyone traveling now a days, check fly.com before you book. I have had good luck with them recently. Example, CLE to Orlando on the 19th right now shows Frontier $138 round trip non stop w/ tax. I've noticed a price difference from early morning pricing to late afternoon. Book early morning.

Side note: Bernie Kosar showed highlights of the Zips beating Can't and congratulated coach Bowden and coach Amato on his Sports Zone Show on Sunday night.

  10. The East just got a little easier to win with the departure of Dino Babers.

BG's next coach will be walking into a pretty nice situation.

If it hasn't been mentioned before, one of the most impressive things to watch yesterday was Zach Paul hitting back to back (due to offsetting penalties) rugby-style punts to the goal-line late in the game. Both punts were perfect, but the second one was amazing to watch hit, spin, and stick right at the goal-line. Awesome. It was great to see players off the bench come out to congratulate the special teams. This team really seems to have fun with each other.

MAC specialist of the week. Congrats Zach.
