Congratulations to the Akron women's swimming and diving team for winning the programs first MAC Championship! I've gone to a few meets to support the team and I am so happy to see the hard work pay off. Swimming and diving is a sport I've started to follow more because of how much time and effort goes into it. Much respect to the athletes who train hard for this sport. I encourage more people to support swimming as it is a very interesting sport to watch, especially live. Hopefully the swimming Zips get more love and support now. Congrats again Swim Team!

So it is ok to lie and cover up information to your employer and you still can get hired for a job? People like myself are still looking for a permanent job and Tressel gets hired. I'm just getting by with a part-time job and an internship here and there and a guy like Tressel gets a job. There are more decent people out there who would love a job like this and this jerk gets one. If this is where we are going of hiring people like Tressel then we're screwed as a society. My family threatened withdrawing support from UA with this news and I had to calm them down. It still doesn't sit well with me.

Can we get over this Tressel to Akron thing already. He is not coaching here. The NCAA made their point, even though I disagree with the post season ban and scholarship losses. I felt it should have been more. I don't think he even wants to coach. He's not a young guy anymore either. Do you really think he wants to coach young men who are 18-22 years old? Like the ESPN article said, what school hires someone who has had serious violations with the NCAA? In my opinion, it would be a stupid decision to hire Tressel since I don't trust the guy to keep clean. He just doesn't learn from his mistakes.

Absolutely not. Mack was horrible. Tom is a step up, thankfully, but neither could hold Waddell's jockstrap! I actually liked Mack Rhoads. At least he was approachable to everyone, including supporters like me who aren't the big money types. It's been how many years with TW and I have yet to meet the guy. I've met the previous ADs and boy do I wish we had one of them back. All TW does is smooze with the big money types and could care less about people like me who go to just about every single Zips athletic event. Earth to Tom, there are other Zips supporters out there who aren't big money, but are just has big diehards if not more then anyone. TW has to be the worst AD Akron has had. For me, he's done nothing that makes me trust and respect him.

I've meet his parents a couple times, especially when Chris was the starter. Nice people. What a shame that this had to happen to someone so young. My thoughts and prayers go out to Chris' family. RIP Chris.

I also agree with other posters here that Tressel has broken NCAA rules at YSU and OSU. It is risky hiring someone like him who didn't seem to get it the first time he got caught. The last thing I want is for my alma mater to get hit with violations because we hired him and he didn't learn. That scares me. If Tressel does get the job here, I also hope he recruits the right kids. I don't want to see headcases like a Pryor, Clarrett, etc come here. Tressel has been known to get these top recruits who have ego problems and are me, me guys. I see how other MAC schools like a NIU, Toledo, WMU and Temple are able to get good players and have success. It would be so nice to be like those schools. Akron isn't the only one looking for a new coach. Illinois, Memphis, UAB, FAU, Kansas, Ole Miss and Tulane fired their head coaches. More are probably to come.

I don't know if I believe Tressel was at TEL the other night. Wasn't he up in Michigan giving the Buckeyes a talk in the lockerroom? I also find it hard to believe that no one spotted him and no word spread about him being there. There are a couple big important people that sit by us in basketball that go to TEL and I would think they would know if Tressel was there. All these rumors are just crazy.

I'm not sure how I feel about Fickel. I would prefer to not make a rush hire just to make a hire. I will say that I didn't like how all this Urben Meyer stuff came up when Fickel was still coach. Give Fickel a chance to coach the rest of the season and see if he's still interested in the job after the season. Talk about classless. Then again, it is Ohio State and they are good about being classless and not giving a s*** about what others say and think of them. Ohio State also has the balls to go after someone who wasn't running a clean program at Florida and has health issues. If UM were to get the job, I don't see him being around three years before he leaves. I did enjoy Michigan beating Ohio State today.

WOW! The Beacon has not even reported this yet! Shows how much they care. they're more concerned about the Urban Meyers to OSU rumors. Thats part of the reason the Akron football is in the state that it is in. Fans and the media are more interested in OSU. Always have been,always will be. Its called front running. Sad but true. All the local media cares and talks about is a university that is in the southern part of the state. Basically they say screw you to the colleges that are local.

I had to laugh at the part when the AD said, "In some areas, the program has made considerable progress under his leadership." Progress in what? Being terrible for two full seasons? Now I hope the right guy is hired to turn around the football program. With this AD, I'm not sure he would. He's going to hire another one of his buddies. Please TW and hire someone with experience and not a friend of yours. Let the hunt for a new coach begin.

Now 31-5 WMU. Moore fumbled the ball and WMU recovered. It took WMU one play to score a TD on a reverse that had their WR throw a pass to another wide open WR in the endzone. So pathetic.

Zips play Northwestern at home on Nov. 17. No first round bye and we are not seeded.

Well the Zips continue to struggle. Just lost to WMU in pks. They are just not playing good soccer. Don't know if it's the inexperience on the team or what, but they are just not playing well. I don't know if there's a third place game. Either way, we have to hope for an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament now. Even if the Zips do get an invite, I can honestly see them losing in the first round. It is just not our year.

Is this season done yet? I still can't believe the Zips were actually on national television. Let alone on t.v. at all. There aren't other football teams playing? Why is everyone so into Tressel? He's not the greatest coach. Plus he's on the staff with the Colts. Have you seen the style of conservative offense that was and is run at OSU? Talk about boring. Maybe he'll put the Zips on probabtion too. Get blown out by better teams. I want someone who will bring extra fire to the Zips. Look at what Oregon, Oklahoma State and Bosie State are doing. I'm even impressed with the emergence of teams like Clemson and Kansas State. Of course you still have the SEC big boys like LSU and Alabama.I see all these good college teams across the country and the Zips just depress me. Why can't Akron be like these teams? I hate to say it, but the rest of the MAC seems to be getting better and we're getting worse. At least Can't is at the bottom like we are. We can't beat EMU and we get blown out by Temple and OU. I want to see results, and I don't see them.

I would really take a win. However, this is a D1AA team and we should beat them by 20+ points. I'm sure we all thought that when we played Gardner Webb that we would blow those guys out too. How did that turn out? I don't know about anyone else, but losing to Gardner Webb really set me off. We had the lead and control of the game and choked it away. I was so mad and embarrassed that we lost to them. If the Zips don't beat VMI, and preferably by a lot, I don't know what I'll do. I didn't like the coaching hire to begin with and I'll very likely demand change if we lose. I just don't see improvement with this team. I wonder if the coaches are even good motivaters. It's one thing to be competitive, but the Zips are just not. Even against the first three opponents, I wanted to see some toughness and competitiveness from the team. I better see it this weekend.

Well, we got the Improper Benefits Bowl between OSU and Miami this weekend. Game sponsors include Free Tattoos Parlor, Shapiro's Bank and Party Servce and the NCAA: Integrity is our job. I do hope Miami wins though.

Since the soccer team has a couple of international players on the roster, how about having flags representing the country where they are from? There's the Serbia flag for Nik in basketball. I think it would be cool to see flags from the countries where our international Zips came from. I don't know where you get them or how much they cost, but I wanted to pass on my suggestion and see what people think. Keep up the great job Ak-Rowdies! I was a member from the very start and am impressed with how far the student organization has come.

I'll be at our game versus Temple and the Zips better be competitive. I would also prefer that the Zips win. I don't know if Temple is a must win, but it sure kind of feels like it. I feel it is an important game not only for the morale of the team but also for the fans. The best result is the Zips winning. We need positive momentum in football.

I noticed their uniforms too. They are just asking for jokes and comments by wearing those uniforms. I guess they couldn't spell OSU?

That tailgate is so awesome! LET'S GO ZIPS! Pull off the upset today! I'm jealous when other teams knock off ranked teams. Saw one last night with Baylor beating #14 TCU. Let this be our turn.

I was very impressed with the team the other night, especially the new guys. It was like the team never missed a beat. They just picked up from last year. The ball handling skills were just amazing. I was also impressed with how quick the guys are and how they just swarmed their opponent when they got the ball. What concerns me about the team is that they still get lazy in the second half. They have to play strong soccer from start to finish, especially against the teams we play coming up. The Zips can't give any of their opponents reason to believe they can win.

I like your optimism. I hope you're right. It sure would be awesome if the Zips can pull off the win.
