I hope they do. If a new arena is not in the near future then at least find a way to make the student/GA seating more appropriate.

Feel free to invite the rest of your OU/OSU buddies. Pretty soon we're going to have rename this place bobcatattack.
-
Ozcat, you came onto an opposing team's forum and made a very bold claim. Not to mention, you threw a snarky one-liner at the tail end for good measure. The bottom line is that the burden of proof is on you. You came onto these forums and posted the following: No one in this thread suggested that Akron would roll past OSU. To the contrary, it was mostly reasonable discussion until you came along. Either you're being inflammatory or you're a homer[i'm assuming you went to OSU...?]. Either way, back up your earlier statement. Otherwise you're just derailing discussion.

Keep beating up that straw man. The majority of our fanbase wants a MAC Championship and some NCAA wins. I don't see many fans(anyone?) seriously predicting an elite 8 run or buckeye "domination".

#48 in the latest RPI rankings.

Sorry, this is not possible. I have been informed multiple times that OhioU grads/students do not care about Ohio State athletics. Please update your post to reflect this blatant reality.

"An inferiority complex, often used to mean low self-esteem, is a feeling of intense insecurity, inferiority or of not measuring up. An inferiority complex can be seen in the negative or "useless" reactions to problems in life. These reactions are useless because they do not solve the problem at hand, but only serve to guard one's self-esteem by avoiding the task or by placing the blame for the failure outside of the individual's control. Although the inferiority complex may be seen as comparing individuals or groups as one being superior to another, it more closely describes how one deals with a fear of failure." Wiki.

I like when some of their fans type "Ohio" in all capital letters. The first view times I saw that it read as if they were yelling. I'm still not sure I understand the point of that. Let's go AKRON. This is AKRON. (It reminds of )
-
Really? I know some people that went to OU. They are die hard buckeye fans and root for their alma mater when they win(a la sweet 16). I'm not suggesting that this problem is unique to OU, however. I'm just giving you guys a hard time. BTW....over 5,000 tonight! And the student sections looked full. Perhaps Marla should whip up a sequel article for the Sunday ABJ??

Wow. Way to choke, Can't.

Mark Henninger would not get many minutes on our squad.

You are correct. My mistake. My point still stands, though. When the students are out of town OU attendance is nowhere near capacity. I'm sure more than 4,000 will be on hand when Akron comes to town. That's because the students are in town and want to see their team play Akron(well, and free Big Macs ). Edit: I just checked and Ohio State does not play the same night as the Akron/OU game. OU should have very solid student attendance.
-
During that winter break period, OhioU had ~4500 against Buffalo on a Saturday. That's ~1000 less than Akron had against the same team earlier this season.(in an arena twice as large, I might add) Besides, OU is coming off a sweet 16 appearance. If they aren't averaging >5000 there's a problem. Someone mentioned on the MAC boards that OU is giving free big-mac's to every student who goes to the game...or something of that nature. OU is innovative in attracting students to the game. Akron should learn from that(and we appear to be). This point has been discussed many times. The athletic department is simply not interested in this concept until student attendance "improves". I truly believe this is the biggest impediment to sustained student attendance.
-
I agree. Dambrot said he was willing to switch to a Bracket busters road game in order to get better opponents. How about more OOC games on the road against tough competition? I'd rather watch us battle it out with the likes of St Mary's on ESPN 2/3 rather than see us smash Texas Southern at the JAR. Based on the attendance numbers, Joe Akron agrees with me.
-
Perhaps it's more about how they measure attendance. According to their reported attendance, Toledo is averaging ~4200 this season. They claim there were almost 4,000 on hand to watch Toledo lose to Akron. Take a look at and tell me if you see 4,000 people there. We shall dub this the 'Akron Football approach' to attendance.
-
Hey, you're preaching to the choir. Tell that to the other 10,000 students and the 195000 Akronites who aren't coming to the JAR. We're already breaking student attendance and overall attendance records. The only team in the conference with better attendance is coming off a sweet 16 run. Perhaps if our team can replicate that we will see higher attendance next year. If Marla would like a Lousville-esque experience, perhaps she could be first to donate towards our own tasty arena.
-
That CMU game would have also sold out Memorial hall(seats ~3,000). I agree that this team deserves better attendance. So far, we are averaging 3,387. That's good enough for second in the MAC if I'm not mistaken. And things will only improve as the season progresses. Weekend games vs BG, Can't, and NDSU should draw well. There's only one weekend game left(a Tuesday vs Miami). I'm actually rather optimistic about this years attendance(student and general).
-
I was thinking the same thing. The timing of this article is a bit off. Marla complains about student attendance, but didn't the students break attendance records three times this season? And the caption under the picture is misleading. We ended up drawing ~3500 vs a very bad CMU team on a Tuesday night. Perhaps Marla needs some perspective. EMU had vs 650 vs Akron two nights ago.
-
Correct. According to University officials, there's about 11,000 students living near campus or in the residence halls. (~3,700 on campus and ~7000 near campus). Dayton has less than 9,000 undergrads total yet still has this kind of atmosphere. It's an apathy problem, not a numbers problem. Edit: BTW, when you take those numbers and divide by the number of FTE students you get ~54% "residents".
-
Only when we're losing. He gets conspicuously silent otherwise.
-
You're either an excellent troll or the most pessimistic person I've never met.
-
Okay, perhaps I'm underestimating our chances. Quite honesty though, this sounds a bit optimistic. Ohio was barely a top 100 team. Regardless, great win. We are now officially atop the MAC. I like it here. Let's stay a while.
-
Hold on while I jot that down in my personal memoirs.
-
I think you're right. I've been considering changing my username for a while now. While Akron/Can't is still a rivalry, OU has some of the most retarded fans I've come across in the MAC. I truly feel sorry for the few reasonable OhioU fans out there, because the overwhelming majority that I've come across(in person and online) were absolute boneheads.
