Creation of a Supporters' Group
ndzeigler replied to RootforRoo44's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
A few years ago, Caleb and the ROWDIES tried to get an exclusive group of soccer ROWDIES started called the Goal Patrol, but it got shut down for some reason. You could use that name. -
Akron vs Michigan Part Duece
ndzeigler replied to tpsjugglerdude's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
One to nil Zips. Darlington will have a lot of good opportunities and then pass it off to Ampai who will try to go up the middle and lose possession (as usual). In the second half Perry will get impatient, burn the entire Michigan back line and drill one to the back of the net. -
I heard he won't start on friday but will see some time. He is looking pretty good at practice but still isn't 100% so they are going to ease him back in.

Darren definitely showed his inexperience tonight. He had some excellent opportunities that he was unable to capitalize on. At one point I could hear some of the Akron guys yelling at him to stop being lazy. He still has loads of potential, but definitely an off night for him. Balogun did a good job coming in for Kofi, but definitely did not provide the same energy and pressure. This game was a nail biter and frustrating at times, but good to come out with a win against a good opponent. Excellent performance by Creighton.

I know people complain about refs on this board a lot, but complaining about the penn state goal being offsides is pretty appropriate. Even the player who scored the goal said that he thought he was offsides! “Honestly, I thought I was offsides, but (the linesman) didn’t put his flag up,” Hertzog said. “So I just took it off my chest and went around the keeper. It was an open net so I put it there.” http://www.centredaily.com/2010/10/14/2271...e-lions-on.html

From Sandon's post I wonder -- is the Hermann restricted to US-born or US citizen players? I don't think a non-American has won, but haven't heard it specified before. Isn't Teal from Canada? Yes, Teal is from Canada originally. And Stevo was runner up, he was not American born.

NSCAA has the Zips at a unanimous number one still.

Sorry, I didn't mean to start a fight over soccer vs football. I was just trying to point out that I don't think they have done a very good job getting students excited about football as more students are excited about soccer (and for your information zipgrad01 I am a football fan). I was pleased to see Coach Ianello come to the RHPB comedian tonight and try to encourage student support for Saturday.
-
You all can believe what you want, but I am actually a student on campus and people just aren't that pumped about football. I am not saying students aren't going to go, they will, but there isn't that feeling of excitement on campus like there was last year before the info opened. Students are talking about soccer because they like to win. Students talk about football and laugh about how much of a joke it is.
-
I would say 15,000. They haven't done a very good job getting students excited about the game. More people are talking about soccer on campus than football.

I stopped by the bookstore and talked to them about it today. They are selling short sleeve replica jerseys with number 6 or 10 but they don't have them in stock yet and are just taking names. They cost 55 bucks and don't have anything on the back. I can get long sleeve replica jerseys made for ~35 bucks at a screen printing place that does stuff for campus but I don't know if that would create any copyright issues or whatever.

CD/Game Exchange Being Torn Down
ndzeigler replied to tbozeglav's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
Yeah I heard about a starbucks going in the old "campus palette" location or whatever the failed art store was. Also had heard about a Chick-fil-a going in the student union where planet underground used to be. But I'm not sure how true these rumors were seeing as I heard them years ago and still nothing has happened... Starbucks isn't a rumor, I have seen them loading espresso machines and milk steamers into the old campus palette all summer. Scheduled to open in the fall. -
Soccer 2011 recruiting class
ndzeigler replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Welcome Andy! I hope to see you on the pitch in the fall! -
I called this morning and am number 65 or something. They guy said that they probably won't get that many tickets back and my odds aren't too good. Oh well, my fingers are crossed!
-
I am a student and can't go to the game friday because of finals. Does anybody know if it is possible to just get tickets for sunday anywhere? or do I have to get the two day package? Also, does anyone think that more tickets will become available on saturday after UNC gets eliminated? I read that this stadium has 7,000 seats with the ability to add additional grandstands to make it 10,000. I just don't understand if each school only has an allotment of 300 how it's sold out!?!? --thanks

New Parking Garage on Exchange
ndzeigler replied to scottditzen's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
Actually, they are going to be putting brick on the parking garage (they have already started on the back corner by Buckeye street) and it will look very similar to the Union, Exchange St Residence Hall, and the stadium. While it may not be beautiful, they are trying to make it look as nice as possible and parking is very necessary. -
I had breakfast with President Proenza last week and he said that they had been doing a significant amount of fund raising for this project and that they would be unavailing the plans very soon (obviously from the plans). He said that it is a two million dollar project.

There was an ad in the Buchtellite on Thursday by The University of Akron Football Program looking for "any" former HS QB with "significant' game experience. saying to email The Director of Player Relations Coach Arshinkoff. Are things seriously that bad that we are now recruiting for QB's in the Buchtellite?
-
yea it's annoying, but just cut it off and tape it back on on gameday. i asked if i could just wear it on gameday and they said no and clipped it on me. but does anybody have any idea on how many wristbands were given out today?

Hmmm, still very stilted and pedantic, NDZip. Guess we are condemned to reading your sophomoric posts as they are . . . Pity us poor readers.I attribute that to the "ND" part of your name; presumably a Notre Dame reference? You folks ought to learn something besides missionary position; doing so might help you loosen up a little. Your Zip brethren seem much cooler . . . Nope, I'm good without using the quote button to your exacting standards. As it is, none of my five computers have a "quote" button. Alas, they only have a button for quotation marks -- these guys """"""""""""""""""""""""""""""' -- please enlighten me as to which button is the "quote" button. Hey, I bet it's near the "any" key!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!P.S. Is it true that one reason for Notre Dame's recent lack of CFB success is because three of their stars are missing in Charlie Tuna's fat rolls? Poor assumption, ND has nothing to do with Notre Dame. I guess we'll just have to see who is really best on Sep 5th.

I'm sorry if you thought my delivery was forced, it must be difficult for you to understand intelligent conversation. In the future I will try to bring my posts down to your level of understanding. You also may want to learn how to properly use the quote button. I am glad to see that your Penn State education is paying off. Perhaps, "WE ARE...STUPID!" would be a more appropriate cheer for you to learn.

Since the days of John Heisman, Akron has built a tradition of class. Something that Penn State fans would not know about. This is a tradition rooted in hearts of our fans, much deeper than color coordination--though I am glad you have been able to achieve this with your "white out." I also applaud that you know who you are which you display through your "We Are!" chant, though the ability to recognize belonging to a larger social group is something that even low level members of the animal kingdom, such as worms are aware of. As a matter of fact in five weeks, you will also have something else in common with worms, being stomped on under the feet of the Zips. As far as hermaphrodites go, that is a very sad medical condition and we would be more than happy to treat anyone with that problem in one of our 3 exceptional Akron hospitals. Don't worry, we also reserved some beds for your football team--where they can receive treatment for their wounds after being torn apart by the Zips. Fear the Roo.

Someone may have posted this already, but I hadn't seen it. there are some decent pictures of the scoreboard and whatnot up on gozips. I'm not sure if this link will work, but if not, I'm sure you can find it.http://www.gozips.com/PhotoAlbum.dbml?SPSI...p;PALBID=337045
