Stadium Expansion for 2012
ndzeigler replied to bobbyake's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Seating is very frustrating if you aren't a student or lucky enough to get a grandstand ticket. My wife and I would have loved season tickets in the grandstand, but to be put higher on the waiting list we were told we would have to buy season tickets for the new west side reserved section, then have the chance to upgrade if grandstand tickets became available. I thought that was garbage, I would rather just get a general admission ticket and sit over on the side hill or something than pay more to have an equally crappy seat. The problem is, if you really want a good view of the game, without kids running around or students standing in front of you, the only good spot is the grandstand. As mentioned before, the lack of good seating can be a big turnoff for the casual fan. I really wish they would have built the grandstand larger initially and maybe made the outside section general admission or something. It sucks when you pay to get into the game and can't even get a good view of it! -
Is it just me? or was that clearly onside?

Plain Dealer claims to have confirmed everything, including that Porter will finish the season with the Zips. http://www.cleveland.com/sports/college/in...aleb_porte.html

The week 2 NSCAA poll has Akron at 7 now. http://www.nscaa.com/rankings/1081/NCAADiv...dbb00ab789cf001

I have to imagine there is a good chance Embick would step into the HC role, he has been under Porter for so long, it would probably give a smooth transition. Plus any recruits would be familiar with him.
-
well according to Alfred's knee on twitter, he is feeling ready to play friday, but it will be up to Alfred and Caleb. Haha, if Alfred is doing this, he has a good sense of humor!

So, can you access the ticket exchange through ticketmaster's website? How would this work if I wanted to buy tickets?

Akron mid Serna on path to MNT future
ndzeigler replied to Soccershins's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
I feel like Tommy will at least get a chance starting. I think he has been here longer than any other player on the team and has worked hard to earn a chance to start. But I think you'll see Porter trying quite a few different combinations at the beginning of the season to see what works best as the players gel. At this point, There are only three players that I am confident will start every game, Barson, Meves and Caldwell. Other than that, I think it's probably all up for grabs. -
PhD Programs attract more prestigious faculty that along with PhD candidates produce lots of high quality research. Believe it or not, research plays a huge role even in business.

Zips vs Raiders Game Thread

Awesome about tommy. Any idea who was in goal? -
Where did you get the 120 minute IPA? I've been wanting to try it but have never seen it anywhere. Just picked up some Oberon. Probably my favorite Bell's of what I have tried from them. Tough to beat for a flavorful summer beer.
-
Nice, I have been eying Rasputin for awhile but haven't picked any up yet. This review definitely makes me want it more!
-
Yea, Thirsty Thursdays at Thirsty Dog are great, keep in mind that it's cash only though. I highly recommend the Maibark. 6.5 ABV and very flavorful, but easy to drink, not too extreme.

Just tried the Samuel Smith Imperial Stout, it was excellent! I haven't tried the Taddy yet, but it will be soon to come.

Not sure if this has been brought up yet, but is it possible that President Proenza is grooming his successor in Jim Tressel? Just a thought...
-
So does anyone know what the scoop is on this supposed event at the Martin Center today? What time it will occur, or any proof that it's even happening? It seems to me that if they were going to announce that they were hiring Tressel at this event, a lot of media would have been alerted to be there and the news would have leaked by now.

Who will be leaving the Zips
ndzeigler replied to UAsoccerchamps11's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
I think Barson has a good chance of getting a GA contract. Scotty is a little bit more of a long-shot and without a GA deal he will be here for his senior year. It will be interesting to see some of the players that didn't really play this year such as Andy Chui. -
I am holding on to hope that there is a possibility we could get tressel. But tressel and fickel? Where can I get what you are smoking?
-
Don't know if this was posted yet, but footballscoop says we are targeting Tressel, for what it's worth: Akron: The same source that confirmed to us the Akron news on Tuesday has told us that Akron officials are targeting Jim Tressel. For what it's worth, Akron's facilities are considered "the best in the MAC". http://www.footballscoop.com/the-scoop

Caleb Porter's Questionable Coaching
ndzeigler replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
I think Porter should start Schmidt up front with Darren, not for the whole tourney, but against Northwestern. He was one of the few guys left who was on the team that went through the trip to Chicago for Northwestern last time. He should be fired up and we need that energy. Bring Holmes off the bench first. Agreed about the 4-4-2 if we want to go deep in this tourney, we need to take advantage of Yedlin and give him an opening to come up the sides. Also, Scotty needs a goal to break his slump. -
Porter to coach U-23's

Rumor has it some of these were present vs. BGSU.Is that true?I heard that Michael Nanchoff and Chris Korb were at the BG game last night. Unfortunately, I didn't see them myself.Korb was definitely there, I saw him. Don't know about anyone else though. -
The ROWDIES are struggling because they have lost a lot of class. Doing cheers that drop the F-bomb and other profanities turn people away.
-
As someone who was pretty heavily involved with the ROWDIES back when they first started going to soccer games, it's clear to me that they are having a little bit of trouble managing growth. Some of the leadership just needs to step up and play more active roles in getting the rest of the ROWDIES and new members into it. We used to do the "Day-O" chant which was a good way to get everyone involved, everybody knows "Day-O". Once people start getting into the game they will be more likely to stay into it. You will always have the freshman girls who are there to socialize and talk about which soccer player is better looking. That's OK, just part of life. Maybe we need a "how to improve the ROWDIES thread."

I was at Giant Eagle on Howe Ave tonight, they have some Zips T-shirts and hats right as you walk in the door. It's nothing impressive, but it's something.

Who says that he hasnt done a hell of a job as a recruiter? Look at some of the youth that has been added to this team and the promise that they have shown already...1. Jawon Chisholm - looks like he has all-mac talent2. Anthony Holmes - Going to be a very solid db...all mac potential3. Tyler Williams - Is going to be the most explosive player the zips have had in over a decade.4. Antoine Russell - Showed flashes as a true freshman and I think he will be much improved this year.5. Nick Rossi - a top 10 ILB recruit in the nation.6. Keith Sconiers - Another highly touted receiver that looks like the real deal.7. Zack D'Orazio - Another solid athlete that looked damn good in the spring for being a freshman.8. Nico Caponi - Solid D line player as a freshman and played well this spring.9. John Griggs - His video looks like he is a long, lean and explosive pass rusher unlike we have seen at UA in a while.10. Andrew Bohan - Solid and well rated OL that played well in both of the post season all star games against very high talent.11. Clayton Moore - SEC talent that is very intriguing and adds much needed depth to the position.12. Kyle Pohl - Another highly touted young QB that looked the part in the All Star game. While we aren't sure how all of these guys will end up, I have a lot of hope compared to many of the other classes. I see this young talent infusion helping us win a few games this year. Once recruits see the program going in the right direction the sky is the limits. I am excited.8 of those guys haven't played a single down in a college game. According to your list, only four players that Ianello has recruited to the Zips have contributed in a meaningful way despite the team being supposedly so devoid of talent when he took over that you would think that every single incoming freshman would have earned a starting spot. Thanks captain negative. Do you really want me to write a 30 player list? I could have added freshman from last year like ShelDon Miller, Austin Bailey, Jamar Williams or Richard Hall, but I chose to keep the list short and sweet to the ones that I think have the highest ceiling. Is Hall still on the team?No idea. I asked about this on another thread.I saw Richard on campus the summer and spoke with him briefly. Seems like he is on the team.
