  1. I don't think there is any doubt for the need to upgrade the schedule. Nobody is saying to go out there and try to schedule the ACC teams like Duke or powerhouse programs. But what would be wrong with trying to get a Northwestern, Dayton (I know they declined), Creighton, Butler, type team on the schedule? Get a program with a little name recognition, that helps us look better. I liked that we scheduled Pittsburgh last year, we need those type of games. CSU pulled off a big one by beating Syracuse. Those could be huge for our program. I would like to see us aim for schools that would come to Akron though, which is why I mentioned the schools I did. I also feel we can compete with the that type of program, instead of scheduling a loss like Duke etc. That type of experience will help, especially come tourney time. It is good to be tested throughout the season. No matter what anybody thinks, nobody from the MAC is going to get an at-large bid. It just isn't going to happen. We can't even get a program ranked in the top 25, let alone thinking about an at-large bid. Toughening up our schedule to get us tested to win the MAC tourney should be ideal. We can still get 20 wins with that type of schedule.
  2. How long can he take before he makes a decision? Is there a deadline date that he has to inform whatever school he chooses?
  3. I like the gold top and blue bottom concept, that is nice!I also like the white helmet white top idea too...too bad we don;t have money for something like that though. The only requirement would be to make those numbers way smaller...our uniforms look so horrible with those numbers. But I like the color scheme.

    Threet???

And we have a three way battle between a guy who can't muster a winning record in one of the worst conferences in NCAA Football and two guys who have never taken a DI snap.Pardon me if I think a guy, as a true freshman in the Big Ten, that is 6'6'' and has a good and live arm could work with our team. I mean, all we can get are 2-star QBs, why take a guy who was highly touted? You're right, that makes no sense....He is only good for DIAA, lol... :lol:First of all, if he came here he would have to sit for a year as a transfer. Second of all Partick Nicely, Jordan Miller, and Matt Rodgers were all rated as three-star QBs and nationally ranked. This guy led Michigan to their worst season in school history and doesn't think he can make the starting job next year on a 3-9 team.Obviously he would have to sit out...scout has Nicely and Rodgers at 2 stars..Michigan was a very young team, under a new coach and an entirely new system. He didn't exactly fit the system RichRod runs up there, is there something wrong with that? We had a very successful transfer from Pitt, who wasn't a world beater at that time and he couldn't sniff the field. That turned out pretty well for us.You act like this kid used to bully you when you were a kid....what gives? Jacq hasn't exactly set the world on fire and Threet wasn't horrible. He did ok, for his first year as a starting QB and against a very tough schedule? Imagine if he got to play the MAC every week, I think his stats would look much different.
  5. School's expensive, that's just a fact of life.I got lucky and had an athletic scholarship that paid for a good portion of my school (non-DI so it wasnt a full ride.) I grad in May and will have less than 15k in school loans. Which isn't too bad.But like another person said, why go out of state to Akron? Id stay in state or even go local to avoid room and board and get some friends together and get an apartment or something. Room and board is the biggest rip off in college.
  6. He isn't DI material...hence the lack of a rating.

  8. He is leaving Michigan and I heard he is rumored to be looking at some MAC Schools. I know we have a couple people on the board that are pretty close to the program, any chance Akron in the play for him?He is from Michigan so I figure CMU would probably be the leaders in the MAC...but just throwing it out there..
  9. Bashing the guy because what he said is correct? The Zips can't compete with these Big Ten teams....playing Penn St, OSU, Wisconsin etc..etc.. these games are over before they start. We did play OSU tough but the only points scored were the 2 off a safety. It's great to feel like we have a chance, but we don't...just go, get our paycheck, pray nobody gets injured and we don't get embarrassed too bad and come back and focus on games we can actually win.
  10. It's all fine and dandy that we have been recruiting 1* and 2* and we have gotten lucky and found a couple of gems, but what has it accounted for? Nothing. We have gotten one bowl bid in the history of the program and a couple of MAC titles. Obviously we are out there recruiting these kids, but they just aren't coming. Whatever it is that has to be, needs to be done. To be a middle of the pack MAC team is not good enough. Right now we are a middle of the road mid major. Some of you seem satisfied with that, but I would like to believe in this hotbed area of recruits, if we could snag a couple, it could dramatically turn the program around (with the right scheduling). But why we offer so early to these 1* kids is beyond me....these kids aren't going to help us win any games. They may be ok players their senior year, we may get lucky and have a player that has a solid career, but these kids are not stand out players that make an impact on the field and give us a chance to run off 10 victories in a season. It's not going to happen if we go into Feb with a list of commitments from 1*s.
  11. 230 pounds, and can't beat five seconds for 40 yards? Why did we offer him, exactly? Could have been his 25 inch vertical, or the fact that he's 230 and will probably put on 15-20 pounds. Which would make a decent strong side end.over 5 seconds is even slow for a DE. That is DT speed. at 230lbs he will need some serious weight.Honestly, many O-Linemen run around a 5.1-5.3. That's REALLY slow for a D end!Why are we constantly going after bottom rung 1 and 2 star players....getting the QB was nice, but we need more quality in our recruits. I saw we lost the three star DB back to Toledo, but grades were a question, but he had talent..From the last couple of years it is clear that we need more talent, one star DEs isn't going to progress this team...
  12. Has the progress been slowed at all by the amount of snow we have been getting this winter???
  13. It allows them to ready themselves for a college work load while getting early practice time with the team. Nothing but benefits if you ask me...
  14. It's not about getting noticed, it's about winning games and getting to a bowl. That's the ultimate goal for a MAC team: to go bowling.I think we'll have to have a respectful disagreement. Beating up on teams no one knows about or would care to see won't impress the current fan base nor will it grow a larger one. Winning 5-6 games in the conference yearly and 1 or 2 more out of the conference REGULARLY will allow the team to go bowling. Wins like those over NC State and Syracuse (no matter how bad those teams are) are more impressive to the casual fan than going 3-0 vs. Louisiana-Monroe, North Texas and Middle Tennessee. If we schedule cupcakes, it will hurt recruiting as well. Kids come to Akron to prove they deserved to play for the "big boys." They live to win these underdog games. They don't come to Akron to play other MAC teams. You drop the major opponents and see how many 3 or 4 star recruits you get coming in, no matter how shiny the new stadium is.I gotta disagree with you. Any athlete goes to school to win, they could care less who is on the schedule. They don't make up who they play week in and week out. They want to win and spend December practicing for a bowl game, not getting ready for exams only.I don't see anything wrong with one money game, as Akron needs those funds to help support the team and maybe one day we will produce a victory. But there should be one lesser game to offset that money game for our win column. Akron isn't ready to compete with mid-level Big Ten teams yet, what makes you believe that? They need to get as many wins as possible to get confidence in the program. Nobody cares who the win is against, when we went to the bowl game vs Memphis a couple years ago, I highly doubt anybody can remember each team we beat. All they remember is they had enough wins to goto a bowl game. That should be the goal, schedule to get wins.
