Quick question for the vets... I have been a season ticket holder since the new stadium opened but have not gone to an away game. I was wanting to make the trip to the Buckeye game this year, how exactly do I get tickets for that game? I saw that they make them available to season ticket holders. Any help would be great, thanks.

I don't know if anybody has seen it, but ESPN has a new commercial featuring Adrian Peterson with a mascot as his personal assistant. At the end, for whatever reason, they have Zippy waiting to speak with Adrian Peterson. No idea why they picked Zippy, but none the less, Zippy made ESPN. Any publicity is good publicity.

Yeah, I agree. All incoming freshmen should be guaranteed 25 minutes per game. It should then increase by 5 minutes per game until their senior year when they are playing 40 minutes. How dare KD base player minutes on what he thinks makes sense. If things keep going the way they are now, the Zips will never have a winning program. No, it has nothing to do with that. Anybody can see that one of KDs biggest weaknesses are his poor rotations. The guy subs guys in and out on a whim. He never lets players get into the flow of the game and he yanks you for the smallest mistake. That kills confidence. It's a big reason why Zips lose some games they have no business losing and why games are closer than what they need to be. Piss poor rotations.

Marlen Oden was named to the All ABJ team as well, also Luther, a RB from Lake I think is a kid we should be looking at.

There were more positives today. The Earth didn't blow up. An asteroid didn't land in Akron. Godzilla didn't attack. Come on now, there were lots of positives today. Who is going to start the initiative to mail the tickets back to the ticket off and our AD? We havent got crap for recruits, the current team is terrible, there is very little young talent. I wonder how many kids leave the program after this year. I know I will not be renewing my tickets, not when I can get them for free and sit in a comparable seat. I will be looking into soccer tickets however. I just wish the mens bball team would actually schedule somebody, that may lure me in one day if they ever play a decent schedule.

People get a little too worked up about the football program here, they put way too much emphasis on it. Yeah, I understand that it supposed to be a money maker for the school and draw attention, especially with the new stadium but a MAC football team is never going to be a winner or do anything significant in the NCAA football world. Who cares if they stink? It's not and never will change, BCS football is not designed for programs like Akron and the MAC. This should be a FCS school. Put our efforts into sports that we actually have a chance in doing something with, i.e. Soccer and Basketball. Those sports can compete on the national level and have a chance at success. Im glad to see soccer get support, but the basketball team needs and deserves it way more than the football program. I know I am not renewing my tickets to the football team, there isnt even any reason to continue to go with that product on the field..pathetic.

I think it is disappointing to see the current student turnout for the basketball games, but comparing them to soccer is insane. Soccer deserves all the student support in the world. They are proven winners. They are ranked #1 in the NATION. They play a tough schedule. They bring in top 20 teams to Akron. When the basketball team starts going deep in the tournament bracket and brings in top 20 teams, I GUARANTEE you will see tons of student support. It's not a knock on the soccer team, I love soccer, played it, hell I just got back from a FC Barcelona match in Spain a couple weeks back. The point is, they make a niche there but there isn't one for the basketball team. And to the above, it's juvenile to base your crowd support on calling players thugs or looking up personal things about them. How about the traditional chanting or making noise? Take a cue from Duke, they never shut up or sit down. I am sure police and what not would not have an issue with that.

That is one beautiful arena. Probably a tad too large for Akron, but a great concept. I prefer that design than that of UCF. I agree that the oval shape is much better than the rectangleish look. Their website says that arena is actually a renovation, with a cost of $25 million. That's a lot of cash for a renovation.... Akron needs a new arena if they want to take the next step for their basketball program. In order to get the recruits and be taken serious as a basketball team, they need 8-10k seating to get big schools to play here and to get a good home court advantage going. It's sickening how the soccer team gets so much respect from the fans but the basketball team gets none. I love the soccer team, don't get me wrong, but why don't the students show up and cause havoc for the basketball team as well??? Ive been disappointed by the student sections at the games Ive been too. They usually only turn up in droves for the Cant game. But this topic has been discussed over and over and over, is anything new really going to be added?

I love the way the current schedule is set up. How can you not? You get the chance to beat a BCS team that is not a traditional power, a should be easy win, and you aren't getting embarrassed. Atleast that is the idea. Playing big time BCS teams is a mistake. We have no reason to play the Penn States, Ohio States, etc.. etc.. The games we are playing are winnable, we beat Syracuse two years ago. Toledo has beat Michigan and Purdue. These lower level BCS games are what this program needs. We just dont have the talent to compete at the moment. I would like more one for ones instead of two for ones, and if we have go to a smaller conference to get that, then I am all for it. However, the only thing I dont want to see is more OSU etc... I know they are money games, but that is really pointless because there is pretty much zero chance we beat that kind of school.

He had two DI offers. We didn';t miss out on much. Seen the kid play in person plenty of times, surprised he got any DI offers. That is not that kind of kid you want to recruit if you want to improve and take your team to the next level. Glad he chose BG.
-
If he was leaving bc he was too far away from home, he wouldn't go to UC, which would be further away from home than Michigan...
-
I actually was playing against Jakarr last night....he is going to be a senior next year IIRC... With that said...he needs a lot of work. He would need a lot of time if he wanted to contribute to a Big Ten team. He is rail thin, can't do much but dunk, but he is super athletic. He has the potential to be a very good player. Get a little bit bigger, add a mid-range jump shot and some post moves. Depending on how much he gets better over the next year, I really feel like he should be playing at a Horizon, Atlantic 10, CUSA type level. I think Akron would be a great school for him to shine. I remember playing against Raymar Morgan and saying the kid was ready, no doubt about it. I def do not get the feeling with this kid. I have a feeling if he goes big ten you may not hear about this kid again except for being a role player, situational starter his last two years in school. But then again, I have seen kids with that kind of potential just blow up once they get real coaching and trainers.
-
Except the Horizon is leaps and bounds better than the MAC from top to bottom. It's not even close....

I believe the age of consent in Ohio is 16. So since she was under 16, at 17, that would be considered statutory rape correct?

Until we recruit better and get better players, we can't play real teams. Dambrot knows this. That's why he cupcakes his schedule. He knows he can't coach his talent level against real teams... Its a lose-lose.
-
I think the Zips program has been so bad for so long that they are fooled with what they see now. Dambrot is an ok coach, but he schedules so poorly that if he doesn't get 20 wins, itd be a crying shame. He constantly gets out coached, we get embarrassed on our home court by our rival, and then choke in the MAC final against a #9 seed. He ran the same out of bounds play like 15 times and this guy was going over out of bounds plays for an hour and a half before the game? (commentators said that..) How can you not draw a decent in bounds play? People have said he is doing well with the players he has had. HE IS THE ONE RECRUITING THEM! Outside of Zeke, he has done a poor job in recruiting. This upcoming class is another example of that. He is getting solid players, but he isn't getting game changers (Outside of possibly Zeke again.) I think he has run his course here. If we want to take this program to the next level we need a coach that can recruit, make adjustments during the course of the game (not subbing three players every three minutes), play a real schedule that will get the team ready for the tournament, and be able to close out a very very very weak conference. Its time to get to the next level, I don't feel Dambrot is that guy. Luckily we have an AD that is not tied to this guy in any way. Akron is never going to get to the next level with Dambrot. He is scared to play real teams and he doesn't recruit good enough.
-
Delete topics because I bring up a valid point? Dambrot isnt a saint. He choked again, blows another MAC tourney title, and inflates it all with his weak and soft OOC schedules.Sad.....Or are we not allowed to say anything bad about Dambrot and just blame it on the refs?

Maybe the INFO Turf Should Have been Gold?
Roo replied to johnnyzip84's topic in Akron Zips Football
Currently, there is no such rule. You can make your turf any color you want. -
I like how selling tickets on a weeknight is suddenly a problem, yet any other team in America does it no issue. The Cavs sell out the Q every game of the season, very few of those games are on weekends. The Browns have sold out their Thursday night games the last two years as well.Akron sucking and playing on a week night is the problem, not the game being on a week night.Funny thing is, people want Akron to get better, well you don't get recruits if people don't know your school exists. Playing every game Saturday afternoon is a sure lock way to make sure your program never gets off the ground. Nobody would even see Akron if they played all their games Saturday afternoon because nobody in their right mind would ever put that team on TV.If you get a ESPN game, I dont care what time it is, you schedule it. That is essential for recruits and it is good for the school.

Alexander Sees a Repeat for the Zips
Roo replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Maybe EA has seen some practices and is basing his opinion on what he is actually seeing, as opposed to a national guy who only goes by what he reads (top ranked recruit at Akron).Im going to agree with this.People expecting big things out of Zeke are in way over their heads. All you people see is #9 big man recruit, highest ranking player to come into the MAC. Well folks, those numbers dont mean jack. What numbers do, would be his actually stats. He averaged, what?, 12 PPG 9 RPG against HS kids? What in the world makes you think he is going to translate right away against college kids at the DI level?Look, he is probably going to be a GREAT player for us. His potential is through the roof. But you people are expecting entirely way too much out of this kid. I don't see him starting, I certainly don't see him making a huge impact right away. I think he has the potential to help us out on the defensive side of the ball, but to ask him to come in and be a difference maker as a freshman when he wasn't even a star in HS, I mean....we got to be honest with ourselves here.I know Im off the subject a little bit, but the point I am making is that maybe EA has seen this with his own eyes and people are over emphasizing his role with us because of a ranking. I don't think that is off-base. I think putting Miami above us is. Buffalo is going to be a strong team. We weren't world beaters last year, we got hot at the right time. We also play a very weak schedule that is pretty useless other than ensuring 20 wins. Can this team gel, grow, and come together in time to make a hot run at the end and repeat last year's story? Or will we struggle to find a replacement for our best defender and play down a level because our OOC schedule was too weak to prepare us for a NCAA run??? This team can really go either way, but Im inclined to think we will be right where we need to be come time for conference tourney. -
For Those Who Hate Elton Alexander...
Roo replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
There isn't going to be any reporter giving us coverage that probably isnt already known news to those on this board. We get the scoop before the paper does, atleast the PD even has somebody covering the Zips. Any exposure this program can get, the better. He seems to do a pretty good job of getting coverage out, where is the beef? -
You have to look at the events that this place could hold...look at the Wolstein for CSU, they never come close to filling that thing at capacity, even with Ohio State and North Carolina visiting, but they get huge concerts weekly, WWE, NCAA Tourney games and many other events. What venue is in Akron to bring that kind of attention to the city???I think this is an opportunity that the city CANNOT afford to turn down. This is a perfect project for a city in the economic downturn, this is a money maker!!! Can somebody find numbers on how much these events bring in for the city??? That is something Id be very curious about. I am sure an arena would pay itself off rather quickly if they can pull events in and I am sure the cost to goto to the Q or the Wolstein would be much higher than what Akron could offer. In that aspect, I think we should target a 10-12k arena. That is a little less than the Wolstein, as it holds 14-15k I believe. With that size of a venue, you can realistically see trade shows, expos, wrestling, MMA, concerts, circus, monster truck etc.We would have to find a way to curtain off or block a good portion of the seats to make it seem as if the place is full for basketball games like CSU does.People are dreaming if they think Akron is ever going to be good enough to fill an arena with 8k, it's just not going to happen. Gonzaga is a basketball powerhouse and they seat 6k in a brand new facility. We cant even get a decent crowd to fill the very small JAR. A lot of that has to do with poor scheduling, but people aren't going to come to support the Zips regardless of success (See the empty JAR now despite consecutive 20+ winning seasons with Akron homegrown players) or facility (see the poor attendance at the Info).I think shooting for 5-6k for basketball is a reach, but attainable with the right schedule. But to help get the city to foot part of the bill, then this arena needs to be in the 10+12k range.

As the school that got laughed at for taking Dru Joyce on, you would think their fans would be open to small PGs. That Joyce kid turned out ok last time I checked.I don't know anything about this kid, but to discount him on height alone is foolish. Drew Lavender as somebody else point out, is a great example as well.
